Incredibly important week for the Patriots

A little early in the season to call a game against the lowly Jets a must win.

That said if the Pats lose to the Jets (unlikely) or if they allow the Jets to hang with them and eek out a win, that will speak volumes on the state of the Pats.

Agreed minus something insane happening like Jets running back a KO, PR and blocked kick/punt or some other ridiculous combo.

I think the Jags are actually decent. They're about as good as a team with a terrible QB can be, anyway. Their defense is in the argument for best in the league, which by itself takes them out of 'fraud' consideration IMO.

And yeah, I dunno if I'd technically call this game a must win, since we can still easily win the division if we lose it, but goddamn we'd better win. The Jets suck and we're supposed to be good. Now would be a great time to start showing it.

The games haven't been pretty, but the results kinda speak for themselves for the Pats. We've lost two games, to teams that are now a combined 9-1. Right now we're probably somewhere between the 5th and 8th best team in the league, based purely on what we've shown on the field. We clearly need to improve, and the defense in particular needs to show that last week was the start of a real, lasting trend, and the OL needs to get its **** together, but I'm not as worried as many seem to be. There are only a couple teams that haven't looked shaky as hell to date, and while it's unfortunate that we're not one of those few we're not too far from being among the league'selites.

A 'fraud' 3-2? What NFL are you watching right now Bob? Who are the legit 3-2, 4-1 or 5-0 teams in your opinion if the Pats are frauds?

The Pats lost to the fraud Panthers, now 4-1 and the Chiefs, the lone 5-0 (I would call them frauds as well, but you get the point). Not the worst teams to fall to in the end.

This season is wide open, as every team in the NFL is flawed right now. There is no perfection, nor unstoppable juggernauts with a straight shot to the title. If you see otherwise, then you are watching a different sport.

Nails- good to see you.

Have I missed some of your recent posts, or did you just return from a hiatus?

by the same token, the pats aren't that many plays away from being 5-0.......
Exactly, which is why OP shouldn’t call other team’s wins “fluky.”

But your post said extra time to "coach up things and focus on installing and communication"

These are done in practice. There are literally no extra practices. They had the weekend off.

Well I supppose that is true. Coaches can be in contact with players though. Even with no official practice coaches can give points to players or do some drills. At least send them home with homework like "work on this techinique" or "remember with so and so makes such and such a call you pick up X player" if they noticed some particular piece of communication failed. Is it as efficient? No. But I do not believe this time is just being used by the coaches and players doing nothing or not being in contact.

If the Pats think the way you're thinking, they'll be 3-3 going against the Falcons.

Well I never said they should think my way completely. Fans can have a different point of view and be overconfident or unpassionate and it won't effect the team at all. I am not encouraging the Pats to over look the Jets and not try. Even if I did they wouldn't listen so what are we even talking about here?

I didn't say they were fluky wins or anything like that. I said they are a fraud team. By that I mean they are not a winning team even though their record says they are. The sample size is just too small with 5 games. Come the end of the season the Jets will not be a winning team or even 8-8. I think even with 3 early wins they will be lucky to go 6-10.

When I say fraud I mean this is not a sustainable winning pace or they are not as good as their record says they are. Most people I think would agree.

Haven't been around, make a couple of posts in the Jets Suck thread now and then.

But it's Pats week so thought I would pop by and see what ya'll were talking about.

Yes a fraud 3-2 team. There are a few of them. As for the legit winning teams i guess it depends on what you mean by legit. IF you mean only teams that are actually good and should have a winning record or no worse than 8-8 then imo the legit winning teams right now are...

Pats, Pitt, KC, Denver, Eagles. GB, Lions, Seattle, Atlanta, Panthers..

Also I would say Oakland and Dallas though losing teams now are also legit and will be winning teams soon.

As for who i think are fraud winning teams? Rams, Jets and to a lesser degree Baltimore. I hope this gives more clarity.

He is objecting to you saying the PATRIOTS may be a fraud 3-2.

While I agree that the Jets are a 3-2 fraud team, let's not forget the Pats were considered a fraud team in 2001.

I would assume that if they didn't want to give them days off, they wouldn't have given them days off.

Not sure why you feel the need to explain possible ways days off are t days off like they are sneaking around.
I'm sure a lot if film study happened.
But to "have extra time to work on" communication and installing schemes is just something that didn't happen.
It's ok to recognize you wee wrong.

But the jets have no talent.

I don't know if we realize how important the time between the Bucs game and Jets game is.

Patriots get the longest time off they will have between now and their bye week and get to face a horrible Jets team. It is a great time to take stock. Coach up things and focus on installing and working on communication. It helps especially with how bad the Jets are.

Yes they are 3-2 but they are clearly a fraud 3-2 team. They beat the equally bad Jags and Browns (Yes the Jags are 3-2 but that is another fraud 3-2 team IMO). The only QB who is even above average the Jet's faced was Carr and he blew their doors off. The rest include some of the worst QBs in the NFL. In fact the 3 wins they have are against the 3 worse statistical QBs in the NFL right now for starters. This team could be and under normal circumstances would be 1-4 right now. The point is even with a winning record it is okay to say the Jets suck and are one of the worst NFL teams. Water just has yet to seek its level on them.

This gives the Pats a lot of breathing room. Thursday to Sunday. Then what should be a routine win over a bad team. Then Sunday night vs the dangerous Falcons and the start of the tough stretch of games.

This is a key time for the team. It made some positive strides in the Bucs game and now it gets 10 days off to prepare for the lowly Jets. Then the really tough games start. If the Pats are to show the improvement we hope to this this period is the time I would expect to see a lot and then hopefully more post-bye week.
The single most important thing they can do during this time is get healthy.

Every yr for the past 15 yrs after 5-6 games there comes a time when everyone wonders if the pats have lost it and need to prove it again . Every year they are in contention to win in the end. Yet, some fans have no faith in the coaching staff and QB to give them some time to figure out and watch what unfolds.

I can't say I visit that thread too often, so I would miss those posts. Good to know you maintain a presence here.

As an FYI, I actually met a Jets fan here in El Paso. Apparently your team has some reach with its fandom (and no, he was not in the witness protection program before you ask).

Sorry, Bob. I read your post fast as the Pats were a fraud 3-2 team. My bad.

Thanks for clearing that up, Andy.

Enough of the "lowly Jets" talk. The "lowly Jets" are tied for 1st in the AFC East in October.

Parcells: "You are what your record says you are."

This Jets team at home is not to be trifled with, as I am sure Bill Belichick is impressing on his underachieving team that has yet to put a complete game together.

The Jets defense is 14th in yards per play given up at 5.3, the Patriots dead last at 6.9. Through five games, the Patriots have given up 80 passing first downs, the Jets just 53. The Patriots have taken more penalties than the Jets, given up more points and are less disciplined than their less talented opponent next week. Brady has been sacked more than McCown.

On offense, the Patriots are ahead in almost any category, but who cares? If you are going to give up 300 yards passing every week no matter who the opponent is, your defense sucks.

The Jets are doing more with less, and just like the Panthers game, the Patriots are the team to beat. At home.

This one is incredibly important, and it is by no means a guaranteed win.
