Danny Amendola Appreciation Thread

there were playoff implications to that dropped catch--the patriots lost to the dolphins, ended up 12-4 and the 2nd seed in the playoffs instead of 13-3 and the 1st seed, had to travel to denver in the AFC championship where we all know what happened..

Just as well. It would have been us getting murdered by the 2013 Seahawks in the SB.

Gotta have this one...

This one was good too...

And I'll throw in this for good measure...

Please let's not forget...

I can tell my grandkids I remember the day when most people on this board thought Amendola was a bum and hated him and McDaniels for convincing Belichick to sign him.

Yeah this board is brutal to those who displease them.

here's a great series showing DA's clutchness.

11/15/2015 vs. giants

patriots down 24-26 in the 4th with under 2 minutes to go.

1:27, 4th & 10 at NE 20

amendola 12-yard catch for 1st down

0:36, 2nd & 10 at NE 44

amendola 11-yard catch for 1st down

0:19, 2nd & 10 at NYG 45

amendola 9-yard catch to put patriots in FG range

gostkowski hits a 54-yard FG with 0:01 left on the clock for the win.

the only other yards made on that drive were a 7-yard catch by gronk and a 5-yard catch by dobson.

My first Amendola memory came when he was playing for the Rams on the play where he broke his collarbone.

He was more concerned with trying to watch the big board replay to see if his catch would hold up or not, and as the cameras showed him walking back in the tunnel he smashed his helmet against the concrete wall in anger, several times. I knew that he was a great competitor, and that he was tough and gritty. Although he's not on the same level, he eased my mind within 24 hrs when Welker went to the Broncos.

Danny Amendola in 4Q or OT with less than 5 minutes remaining and the score within 8 points from 2013-2017 (regular season + playoffs):

24/35 (68.6%), 263 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 18 1st downs

To put it into perspective, a little comparison:

Julian Edelman (same timeframe):

21/37 (56.8%), 244 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 12 1st downs

Rob Gronkowski (same timeframe):

18/29 (62.1%), 302 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 15 1st downs

Wes Welker (2007-2012):

26/46 (56.5%), 232 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 13 1st downs

Julio Jones (same timeframe):

24/43 (55.8%), 404 yards, 3 TD, 3 INT, 15 1st downs

Antonio Brown (same timeframe):

27/37 (73.0%), 411 yards, 4 TD, 1 INT, 21 1st downs

Dez Bryant (same timeframe):

26/49 (53.1%), 304 yards, 4 TD, 2 INT, 11 1st downs

Jordy Nelson (same timeframe):

16/24 (66.7%), 206 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT, 10 1st downs

Emmanuel Sanders (same timeframe):

9/28 (32.1%), 205 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 8 1st downs

Larry Fitzgerald (same timeframe):

22/33 (66.7%), 296 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 15 1st downs

Demaryius Thomas (same timeframe):

21/40 (52.5%), 295 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT, 15 1st downs

@bbobbo Can you show the Amendola full extension catch against the bills from the angle from the other side? That's the best one in my opinion. Apparently the sunlight was in his eyes too when he reached up for it. Amazing catch!

there was no reverse-angle replay on the television broadcast. the only other replay they showed was a longer version of the high endzone shot:

He's almost like a Kevin Faulk of Pats receivers. His numbers don't blow you away, but he's a ****in baller, especially when it counts

I'm happy he's around.

Right on the money, the numbers won't blow you away but the importance of his receptions is critical to their success. Too many here have never understood this basic concept.

In a certain sense Amendola's very first game for the Patriots in 2013 really encapsuled what he is. A pretty good receiver (10 receptions for 104 yards) who has problems staying healthy (suffered the groin injury that plagued him the entire year) but is tough as nails (played through the injury) and is as clutch as it gets (was 4/4 for 26 yards with 3 of them resulting in 1st downs with 2 coming on 3rd down, though it was 4-down territory anyway, on the game-winning drive).

I remember discussing that.

That was the one where he could have died, because the bone nearly punctured a major artery.

I still like when he laid that KC guy out, because people have been abusing him his whole career.

i just finished watching "do your job 2" for the first time a few minutes ago (i finally found a copy on youtube, just do a search there if you haven't seen it yet). on the 2-point conversion to tie the game in SB LI, here's what mcdaniels said about why they chose amendola for that play:
We chose Danny because we feel like Danny's the best "trash" runner and catcher that we've got, meaning you're going to have to catch it with a lot of bodies close to you, you're going to have to turn your head and shoulders toward the goal line real quick and you just dive through a brick wall if you have to. Wasn't going to be easy, but that was why we chose Danny to do it.

great description by mcdaniels about what amendola does for the team.
