BGC 2018 NFL DRAFT/PATRIOT-TYPE THREAD

Lamar Jackson can absolutely play QB at the next level. 1000%

Can he survive though?

Some of his "escapes" will not happen there with guys like Mack, Miller, Clowney, Garrett and Bosa chasing him down.

Can he take the hits and pounding?

One more year might be the best thing for him (and the most tbh) to really add & sustain weight while improving on his strengths.

He's only 20 btw.

M. Rankins hasn't allowed a pressure I believe.

Thought I had a few days but got called in for a few nights. Can't say no to OT on the weekends.

Adding to list everyday.

Any questions, comments, suggestions etc please feel free

Looks like Malik Jefferson is finally putting it together?

Great players, but pretty much impossible. If Ferrell actually declares, I don't see him getting out of the top 20, let alone round 3. This would be an all time great haul, assuming that they live up to their potential.

You know how we backed (some of) our love for Garcia pick by what he did to Ferrell? The reality (or at least part of it) was it was early in the season after Clelin's RSF year

here a quote from Mosq's edge article - Top 10 Pass-Rushers in 2018 NFL Draft – Setting The Edge:

Ferrell’s progression throughout the season, which is expected of a redshirt freshman, was significant though. If you watch him early on in the year, Antonio Garcia of Troy (now a New England Patriot) throws him around. By the time that the national championship game kicked off, he was jawing off at the undefeated defending national champions from the moment the whistle blew, going toe-to-toe with Cam Robinson, the third bookend off the board in the 2017 draft.

This is not to dismiss Garcia pick or worry about this aspect for his future here (the undisclosed illness thing and losing whole 1st year incl. TC are big enough worries) but just adds a bit of context.

I really hope Garcia can come back on the field early and strong next spring. After lots of investment LT is now a very tricky position for 2018. Not only that the only potential LT on the roster signed for 2018 is Croston who was brought to play a guard . there are also big Q on possible extensions for the others (Solder one big ? and Waddle, Fleming not really showing progress (at least from here)) . and the LT market is just impossible. Having to go for another LT high would be disappointing . but if anyone wouldn't have problem with that is BB.

I've always been attracted to "different" types of players. Guys that just aren't like anyone else and Tate fits that's bill. Can beat you deep. Go over the top of a defender. Great natural hands and body control. He can also get quiet and find a soft spot in the defense.

Great game so far. Hope he's ok.

I think there are a bunch of WR'S in this year's draft that could be potential Pats. Kirk is a guy that I always thought was too hyped and def not a top 5-10 guy but hes still a great athlete with stickem type hands and sub 4.5 speed.

Idk I just think he falls a bit. Possibly out of the 1st but would immediately fit into the slot role here and almost anywhere.

He's from Scottsdale Arizona and has no flags that I know of? Played RB/WR in high school and gained over 5,000 all purpose yards in his JR/SR years.

I've liked for a long time now and think he'll be a good player at the next level. He's not some twitch monster. Probably won't kill the combine with crazy measurables. The guy is a football player that has improved each year in areas that count. Most notably in the run game. Hes a versatile player with some nuance to his game. Very tough wight he ability to attack inside/outside. 6'4 270 and all arms and legs with a great motor. I think Bill would like him a lot.

Duke is a smart player that is always setting up OT's off the ball with hesitation moves, stride length and his hands to get his opponent off balance.
Here hes all legs gaining tremendous ground with his strides and uses his patented rip move to power through and finish the play with a sack.

On this play he uses not so much his stride length but creates enough space to attack on angle to use his rip move.

Sells the outside rush hard and times his club and steps perfectly to create speed and knife past the OT.

Duke is a powerful man with active hands, a great rip, some hesitation moves and the ability to rush inside/outside. Hes improved in the run game and can identify whats in front of him in terms of blocks.

Want to see him shed better and develop a true counter (hes getting there and I expect by years end will have a legit one).

Great game and Kirk is having a day.

Marcus Allen is a guy that some Pats fan will love. Looks like proto type SS at the next level with his size/frame and ability to add more weight.
He started out playing flag football and has been coached by his Dad who was a s&c coach. Curtis Martin is his godfather.

Allen's instincts and awareness have improved imo and that's something I wanted to see bc he's prob always gunna have trouble in coverage to a degree. But his mental makeup could help big time. Big hitter who shows some snap through his hips when delivering. Big time leader in on/off the field. Coaches love him. Better the closer he is to the los imo.

Thoughts on Luke Falk as a QB? Can he be overlooked. Could we draft another QB from Washington State. We know who came from that college.

There's a ton to like but I'm not sure about his arm tbh. Specifically his velocity and ability to make tight NFL throws and outside the #'s. I notice a lot of would be picks and touches on his passes from DB'S. Those typically don't end up well against the best athletes in the sport.

He strength is def the short-intermediate game. He has some really nice touch. Almost too much and I suspect that's him making up for his velocity. He wants to place the ball perfectly and sometimes he can. Nice placement.

He runs his system well I will say that. He goes through his progressions and will scan the field at times. Can manipulate a LB and look off a S when he's on.

Shows very good poise and pocket movement. Can manipulate a pocket and a crashing one at that.

I don't like his reaction to real pressure though and think that'll get much worse against legit NFL players.

The elephant in the room is the system though. Someone after him will put up #'s just as good if not better. It's just college these days. How is he under center?

It's a loaded QB class, if "everyone" comes out. If thats the case I think he can be had in the mid - late rounds.

This dude is something else.
