Are you surprised the Pats haven't made any moves yet ?

Larry Fitzgerald baby. Dion Lewis + a late pick. Have them eat some salary.

For real, they should let Larry free for a title chance if David Johnson is done.

Doubt the Cardinals would do that. Kerwynn Williams looked solid after Johnson went down, and they have Andre Ellington behind him, plus Chris Johnson is still available so they can always just bring him back. The Cardinals have lots of options at RB already, meanwhile Fitzgerald is their only dependable WR. Trading Fitz for Lewis would make them worse, making them much worse at WR in exchange for making them a little better at RB. So as win-now moves go it would be a hard one to justify

Would like to see a punt returner so we don't put Amendola at risik of extra shots.

Wait on Nink to come back ;) and see if we can get another backer, maybe DeAndre Levy if he can come back later this year from injuries?

They will be 1-4 shortly without an All-Pro RB. Their OL is garbage. Just my take.

Fair point on their RBs. They may reach a point in their season when they should sell and play for a high draft pick for a QB. Just something to keep in mind.

not really.

We need help at a position where there are not a lot of quality players available.

ummm, no.

making a move based on week 1 panic is what impatient and poorly run teams do....not Bill/the Patriots
Exactly.....was the first thing I thought of when I saw the thread title.

I very much doubt that BB would make a panic move based on the performance Thursday. But another team could make a panic move involving a Pats player based on their Sunday performance.

It's possible that, even before Thursday's game, BB had a move lined up that can't be legally executed until tomorrow.

Then, too, there could be a promotion from the PS that might not be announced until Saturday. Mitchell going to IR and Karras being promoted to take his roster spot wasn't announced until Game Day.

The Pats are currently carrying 9 OL on the 53-man and two more on the PS, so a spot for a "promotee" could be made. And there could easily be a guy on the PS who's already been practicing with the #1s instead of playing a role on the scout team.

Waddle to Seattle for a late draft pick doesn't seem entirely outlandish, followed by the promotion of Blackson or DeMarcus Ayers - or even DJ Foster.

Now that all of the Game 1s are over, it's time for at least one move: ****-canning Jordan Richards.

I'm with Captain. There are veteran FA LBs and DLs that would see to be at the very least on par with what Richards has shown in his time with the Patriots. I'm certainly okay with keeping Richards and having him return to a very limited role, if not see if he slips through waivers and back to the PS. The Patriots have a short leash with some players/positions and perplexing long leash with others. He has struggled as a SS, a FS, and now LB. I also happen to love Deon Simon, who after playing meaning minutes at NT/DT for Jets last season, is currently on their PS. BB worked him out privately before he was drafted.

30 other teams were game planning for their week 1 games...not exactly the best time to trade.

Every year without fail a new sub version of the Belichick system takes at least until week 6 to be fully implemented.

Because if he did the same thing year after year we would not have 5 banners to hang.

Any time I get caught up in the worry of a thin roster (which it's really not...) I think back to 2013.

Which happens to be one of my favorite years btw.

Luckily our secondary is really good (one game doesn't discount that). Our front seven surely needs work but I believe it's just shifting pieces around till you find what works. Maybe a veteran FA would be solid, but not worried if they don't. There is a reason those players haven't been signed yet, just my quick take on that.

Offensively, just adjusting to the loss of edleman and Mitchell. I mean seriously, Brady hasn't a had long to adjust, nor has Josh McD in terms of game planning. They're both really good at what they do. Doesn't mean they can immediately adjust to two keys being taken out. In fact, with time and season progression, they get better. Way better. That's why I love the Patriots. Each season the team evolves. Some to a lesser extent. Some from a way lower baseline. But they always do. So glad I don't have to watch like. The Seahawks just be the Seahawks all year in basic packages.

We'll be alright, folks.

your unofficial "should I worry about the Patriots" calendar...

1. Are the leaves still green and on the trees?...do not worry about the Patriots
2. Are the trees bare?...now you may worry

I do think BB may make a move for a backup linebacker or pass rusher in the future though. Losing Hightower hurts. How long is he going to be out?

WR Jeremy Ross, who is a very good punt returner (a MAJOR need) and solid slot receiver who was in the Pat's system a few years back. Very surprised those two haven't signed. Must not have tested out well.

Jeremy Ross has literally played for 1/4 of the league(8 teams) and has 43 catches for 506 yards in his 6 year career. I think you and I(and the Patriots) have a very different of what constitutes "solid slot receiver".

Over the weekend, the consensus media take was that HT's injury wasn't serious and that he might even be able to play v. the Saints. That might be optimistic, but we may have a better idea when the injury report comes out later today. Or, maybe not - this being the Patriots.

My wild-ass guess would be ... if the D performs adequately in practice without HT, the Pats may rest him another week to be safe, unless he makes a really quick recovery. Probably a game-time decision.

How about Chandler Jones for Michael Floyd?

I presume you are referring to the dearth of receiving options which, to be fair to pessimists, was a major factor in the AFCCG loss.... though it was still a loss in the AFCCG. :)

I think of the following year. Can't stop the run, no quality DL depth (or even starting options aside from Wilfork, frankly). Enter Branch and Siliga, stop playing Jones at 3-tech and viola! Hold Indy to 4 yards on 14 carries off the bye and the run D was never much of a problem again, with the possible exception of the playoff game against Baltimore.

That's what the "if they play like that against...!" crowd doesn't seem to understand. The body of evidence suggests that week one issues do not presist throughout the season, so they have little reason to think this disaster scenario will occur.
