Pats trade Jacoby Brissett to the Colts for Phillip Dorsett

Bill just traded our best QB, unreal.

Does this mean that they think they have time to train the next guy or does it mean the opposite and they need to set Garoppolo up ASAP? Could be either.

Either way I liked brissett but he was never starting here. Return was worth giving up a QB with potential somewhere between career backup and fringe starter. Good luck to him in Indy.

Wow....I guess I'm not surprised that they are moving Brissett....but have never heard of Dorsett and shocked that BB would move him to division rival......Jimmy G is the future baby....hope he will b ready....pretty shaky in preseason but I'm sure he will be ok once Brady retires

No doubt. The Colts are challenging the Patriots for the East this season, and I don't know anyone who knows Dorsett was the Colts first round pick. Jimmy G is definitely the future of the Browns as Brady won't be retiring for years and years.

Nice troll though.

I'll miss Jacoby. He's a great guy with some really nice attributes but Bill obviously has seen enough.

This is a team move 100%. Not a "Dorsett will have X #'s at the end of the year" move. Hes not a JJ or Fitz but rather a guy who helps put an offense over the top.

He's a bit of a project even now but his speed is legit and makes our offense that much more deadly. He's actually not a "bad" r/r at all. He's a bit limited in terms of catch radius and physicality but again his speed is real. I think his hands are overblown and always have been.

Two big issues I've always thought could hinder his NFL career are creativity in terms of scheme and enough touches.

1) Bc of his size he needs a OC with some creativity and balls. Line him up all over imo and take advantage of his speed. Even out of the backfield at times.

I'm sure he'll be Josh's bestie if he has any sense bc Josh is exactly what he needs. Those two should def get along.

2) Who knows how many targets he gets considering how stacked we are on offense, that position and how late he got here.

I'm thinking there's a plan already in place to play to his strengths this year and work on expanding his role as the year goes on.

The real winner in this is Gronk. We're gunna be bombing teams with Cooks, Hogan and Dorsett. The middle of the field is gunna be wide open and we have so many guys to take advantage of it.

Gronk, Dola, Lewis, White, Rex and even Mitchell will have some enticing match ups. Teams will absolutely have to account for all the offensive speed we have and keep their S's back.

Tom must be going insane right now thinking about leading this offense.

I may be making the wrong argument. I'll just leave it with something more practical and measurable: When the heat is on and TB needs to get the ball out quickly, I'm betting that he's going to Cooks, Dola, and Gronk before looking Hogan's way. And that, to me, is the biggest thing that needs replacing with Edelman out.

You're forgetting White, Burkhead and Lewis.

Lollipop-Pop Guild still remains in tact..

Historically, round 1 has been where they've addressed area of need.

BEST PLAYER/ATHLETE AVAILABLE is what he does in round 2, not round 1, and it's been very hit or miss.

Biggest myth in the history of the draft is BPA. Teams draft for need almost every round, every draft.

No such thing as "absolutes" when it comes to the draft, nor should there be.

If you're not flexible you don't last long in this league.

Well...how else do you measure production? I am sure he will pick up some emotional slack as well. I read Hogan is settling in nicely and becoming a good leader and influence.
I dont think any of us were concerned with who would replace edelmans yards, touchdowns, etc. I originally argued against the notion in Lombardi's tweet that now that we have Dorsett, we can just kick Hogan inside and redefine his roll in the offense.

I guess what I am concerned with is this: when things are going smoothly and the O Line is holding up, TB and the offense will be unstoppable with or without JE. I doubt he'll honestly even be missed. I'm more thinking about who will do what JE did in the tough times, when the pass rush is getting home and TB has to get get rid of the ball quickly? Like Deus said, everyone will chip in, but I think Hogan is pretty far down the list of guys on the team who accel at short, get-open-quick routes (yes I know this is not all that edelman does, but it is the thing he does that no one else on the team can replicate). So, I disagree with the idea that his time on the outside will be reduced or that the routes he runs will change now. If they do, I'll be back for my crow.

If you listen to Lombardi he seems to say the opposite and also says that BB is one fof the best at that. Dont let need drive your draft.

You've never heard of a guy puckedcin the first round? I'm surprised.

How is Indy a rival now?

Why would trading the 3rd QB tell you it's more likely the backup stays and the starter leaves? Makes no sense.

I don't think you have a good understanding of hogans skill set.

That is all nice and everything but let me put you at ease. Brady has won Superbowls without JE (and without WW too) and was in 2 more where JE diddnt do anything. JE is an important player and superb on 3rd down, but with all the talent this team has and coaching, I wouldnt be worried.

We talk about BPA, need, and value as draft strategies, and they all seemingly overlap into each other.

I now like the word "opportunity." The Patriots draft for opportunity. What player at this draft slot has the best opportunity to contribute to the roster. Have more opportunities available than draft slots? Trade down for more draft picks. Have fewer opportunities? Trade up or out for less. No one available worth the opportunity cost? Trade back. Have few draft-time opportunities available for Day 3 players, but will likely have some unpredictable roster-end slots available at the end of camp? Trade all your Day 3 picks for young vets that can take advantage of those opportunities now, and stock up on UDFAs.

Like this trade.
