Patriots - Texans Preseason Game #2, What to Watch For

Steve Balestrieri

After a couple of spirited and tough practices against the Texans this week in West Virginia, the teams meet in a preseason game before doing it for real in Week 3 in Foxboro. Here are some of the things we’ll be watching for.

Hi All,

New to the forum.

Can anyone PM me a link to the game? Assume it will not be broadcast live on Direct TV?

Thanks,

Dan

Looking for a good link as well I tried watching the Jag game on Kodi and it was terrible quality.
My internet speed is 200 mbps on a Amazon fire TV running Amazon tv fire guru.
Anyone can pm about a higher quality stream?

FOR ANYBODY WHO WOULD LIKE TO WATCH THE GAME THAT ISN'T ABLE TO VIEW LOCALLY OR VIA NFL NETWORK, YOU CAN GO ON INSTAGRAM & FOLLOW "PATS.ZONE" OR "PATSPERFECT" EVERY SINGLE PATS GAME (PRE-REG SEASON) IS LIVE STREAMED.

Great Quality & Free.

I have Sunday ticket I don't want to pay for game pass

How much does that cost and is it better than game pass?

Game pass costs 99 bucks for the whole year and I can watch any game from 2011 on.

I've just recently cut cable so am not sure how functional it will be during the regular season etc.....but so far it's good.

Dear Dan a/k/a "4 posts since 2011 and 3 of them asking for free links is not at all shady",

Ian does not allow links to sites that are not legal/credible.

So, NFL.com would be a good place to start.

I had Game Pass in Argentina and I loved it. I recently moved to Puerto Rico. Inside the US you can't watch live football with Game Pass, so I had to get Sunday Ticket. It feels like a step back but it's the best I can do.

To find a stream of the game go to r/nflstreams on Reddit.

It will be nice to see the new players in some live game action.

Obviously many will be focused on the edge defenders, on the opposite side of Flowers. There is a question of who will be out there, what kind of alignment, and of course how well will those players perform. Kony Ealy in particular is one player to focus on, though there are several others as well. I didn't think Ealy showed much last week.

Curious to see how Brandin Cooks is utilized. How does the offensive line hold up, not so much on deep fly patterns but more on a dig route. In other words, how does OL fare having to pass protect on a longer developing play. Or will that not even come in to play since it will be a combination of Cameron Fleming, Conor McDermott and Cole Croston at LT?

We already know what Gronk can do, what about the other tight ends? Matt Lengel is not expected to play but I would presume James O'Shaugnessy will get some playing time, since he returned to practice on Tuesday. How does he compare to Jacob Hollister?

For those of us that were not able to attend training camp, tonight is our first opportunity to see Rex Burkhead. It would have been nice to get Mike Gillislee too, oh well.

I'll try to take my eye off the ball and watch not only the two lines, but also the special team gunners, blockers and tacklers. Specifically to compare veterans that are on the bubble such as Brandon Bolden, Jonathan Freeny, Geneo Grissom, in comparison to rookies looking for a roster spot.

Players not playing in pre-season often indicates that their roster spots are secure, or they are injured.

Is Lengel injured?

I find it difficult to believe his roster spot is secure.

Dear Deus,

You're right, I come hear to poach information. Specifically looking for ways to get access to free ****. Shady, absolutely, but then again I never claimed to be a gentleman.

I hope he's secure. I'm pulling for the kid.

here's my watchlist

1. LT situation - Fleming, Croston and who else they put there. And who they use there for extra protection. (they used a lot of Waddle outside Fleming at LT vs JAX so interesting to see how that goes)

2. DL - Looking forward to see more Guy at DE now that Branch is back and DE is thin. They used Grissom almost exclusively at OLB last game so w Rivers out one would think he'll be the next man up for some DE reps . but not according to practice reports. Here are the lineups they used this week:

F7-1 : Langi - Guy - Brown - Valentine - Flowers
Harris --- Van Noy

F7-2 : Butler - Branch - Hamilton - Ealy
Bates -- Roberts -- Freeny
3. RB - First of all first sighting of Burkhead, how he does against top front 7 without full OL and also how he does as dual threat. Then how Bolden and Lewis reps go.

4. TE - very interested for first sight at Allen and O'Shaughnessy. Possibly a sight if JO can be a complete TE.

5. DB - How JJ & Rowe do in the slot. Id like to see some Ebner on D as well. Is Killings getting a closer look at different positions (also FS?)? He was very impressive in limited snaps he got esp. at stopping the run. It would be nice to see binkie Travis to build up on very solid performance at SS but he was redshirted at practice so might sit out. Last but not least - hope to see first snaps for binkie David Jones.

6. ST - A lot to watch for here. Such a shame for Rivers esp. as potential core ST. Langi saw lots of snaps vs JAX and possibly sees more tonight. He is in line for that core ST replacement of Mingo. Hopefully we can see what Bates can do. O'Shaughnessy could be another important addition. Who takes King's spot? Interestingly A.Butler saw increase of ST snaps lately. Also Elandon Roberts was more in the mix. Texans were reportedly beating up Pats special teamers so it would be nice to see how they bounce back in a game..

But first Im gonna enjoy first drive for 6 w TB & the receiving Octopus..

I read somewhere that Lengel has not practiced all week and is not expected to play tonight at Houston.

Lengel had surgery in the off season on his finger. Not sure if it is related to that, or something else.

At some point in the second half I want to see the undrafted rookie defensive backs together.

Then somebody can get a photograph of them together as they trot on or off the field, showing the backs of the players wearing jersey numbers 42, 29 and 33 from left to right.

We got two of them together last week, but the inclusion of Kenny Moore would be better.

It could become the slogan of fans of the Patriots for the 2017 season.

I would not have played Brady tonight, against this defense, and especially without Solder at LT. In fact, I would hold out as many starters as possible. Let them get their feet wet vs Jimmy Caldwell's soft-as-Charmin Detroit Loins next week.

Interesting thought.

Normally I would advocate two preseason games, but on the other hand the scrimmages in the joint practices more or less accomplished the same objective.

Funny how the Detroit defense has done a 180. I recall just a few years ago when the Pats played them in preseason and I was yelling at the television for Belichick to pull Brady, because TB12 was getting hammered unmercifully by the Suh and Cliff Avril.

NFLN will have a rebroadcast tomorrow morning

Let him at least taste the field of glory..
