Looks like Rivers is out for the year...

And your 2018 #1 pick?

Psh... the only time Jimmy had to play, he got hurt. Kid looks good, but ya don't give up a 1st for a QB w/o any proven experience and who's fragile.

Maybe Sheldon and a 3rd.

I read that as "Maybe Sheldon is a turd."

It seems like injuries hit us every other year. Last year we were healthy heading into the playoffs, 2013 and 2015 we were not.

Absolutely no clue how you make the jump from Derek Rivers having an injury to 2013 and 2015.

Particularly sorry for his ST impact. Thought he might be great Mingo “replacement“ upon draft and started to show that. Also would save one “predominantly“ ST roster spot so not too benign loss considering roster build..

I'm betting that the NFL office, in an attempt to try and hurt the Patriots and screw them over on the field, had something to do with this. Can't watch this fixed sport anymore.

In 2 games he played better than any QB the Jete had in the last few...decades.

Well... that sucks. Hopefully he can use a year of rehab to try to add 10-20 pounds of muscle and come in next year ready to compete for an every-down role, but that sounds pretty optimistic based on the injury. Hate seeing guys who are already projects get injuries like this so early in their careers, a lot of careers get derailed entirely because these injuries put them so far behind the growth curve that they never catch up. I still think that's what happened to Tyrone McKenzie, who in an alternate universe where he never had his rookie ACL tear I think is still a solid LB somewhere.

As for what this means to the 2017 team, Grissom's got to be feeling better about his chances at making the 53, and Wise being a rotation-caliber player early on just went from something we kinda need to something we absolutely need. Barring a trade or picking up a veteran castoff--which should happen, but given that the cutdown to 75 no longer exists may be harder to pull off than it has been in past years--it looks like Flowers, Ealy, Wise and Grissom are our top four, and the latter 3 have proven basically nothing at the NFL level. Could work out, but not really a recipe for success. Maybe Belichick can convince Ninkovich to come back midseason, if our lack of DE talent is killing us.

I'm sure Belichick will be able to find some jag to fill in after other teams make cuts
Why would a JAG cut be any better in Belichick's eyes than guys like Ealy, Roberts, Langi, Grissom and Freeny. As of now, one of these will be cut. Perhaps, Belichick can live with that.

Good idea, in a first moment I thought about Ninkovich coming back to save the day, after all the ceremony and all that is already in the books, would be just some fun playing time for him with no big responsibilities and then retire again, but then I kind of went Nahhh, bad idea, guy is already retired, maybe his body already relaxed into the point of no return.

But then, your idea mid season, that could work. The first quarter of the season BB is willing to play like an extended pre-season and see where things are at the end of week 4. I think we could go 3-1 and even 2-2 it's not the end of the world. Our entire division is tanking.

Depth....

Smell a trade coming.
Two Teams might be in the offing. We are not going to move Jimmy G, but Brissett might be dangled. He has some NFL snaps. QB is an issue for many Teams.
One that maybe enticed are the Jags. They watched Brisett. He is certainly not Jimmy, but might be a better alternative than the really messed up Bortles or the journeyman Henne. The player I target is Fowler Jr. So far has not lived up to hype and on the second Team. Did have 4 sacks last year in a not full year starting job.

The next Team with an abysmal QB roster is SF. Hoyer is a band-aid, Barley is terrible and Bethard is a P.S. type. Maybe John Lynch takes a shot at a young QB from a system he knows works in Brissett for how about Aaron Lynch? 6'6" and 270. Plays OLB and DE. Last year was injured some but good sack totals prior 2 years. Young player with 4.64 40 speed. 12.5 sacks in 2014 and 2015.
Third on their depth chat is is Ronald Blair III. I would still throw a Draft pick if Brissett is not wanted.

Thoughts?

Thanks for the "optimistic" info, Jeff Howe, I mean Ericka Leigh.
