Looks like Rivers is out for the year...

The Patriots fear a season-ending knee injury for top draft pick Derek Rivers, sources tell ESPN.

Well, nothing official yet. But regardless our DE depth is getting killed. Rivers and Nink now both gone if true.

We need a sad rating. I don't want to give OP a dislike, but I certainly dislike the news.

This really sucks.

I really wish Nink held off on retirement.

Switch to the 3 down lineman looks we saw frequently in the playoffs with Flowers - Branch - Brown & Hightower/McCellin at OLB. Have Flowers & Guy kill QBs from the interior on passing downs. Maybe Butler can provide a spark there as well.

Our DE depth chart:

Flowers
Wise
Langi UDFA
Ealy
Butler - a UDFA DT
Grissom - a STer

Flowers gets nearly all his sacks from the interior as well. Can't run a 4-3 realistically with this personnel; especially since we rotate our DEs in.

Position is having a Edelman, KT, Dobson feel to it.

Smell a trade coming.

Kony Ealy needs to find that magic he found vs. Denver a couple years ago, oh I'd say like, now.

So Langi makes the team by default?
We need to make a trade or scour the waiver wire.
Fear he has a torn knee and confirmed is not the same thing.

I'd play constant highlights of that game to Kony.
My fear will Rivers ever rebound to be the player he can be.

Out of all the teams that's seem like they'd have interest in Jimmy, the only team that would have a DE that'd interest me would be Myles Garrett. And we know that won't happen.

Looks like we're going to have to spend a WR to get a DE.

This is terrible news, but I don't think it creates any short-term urgency to force a trade right away. I can't imagine a 3rd round pick was so integral to this year's plan that we now have to overspend, sacrificing a valuable asset to replace him.

Don't get me wrong, the position needs to be filled.... maybe the final cutdown wire will be of assistance....

Rivers likely wasn't going to be a force this season, but I hope this doesn't slow his progress for the next.
