Why not hold the pro bowl in June? I'd watch even though I know it is not real football.

I can think of many reasons that is a bad idea. The biggest one is probably that what player would want to risk injury in a meaningless game BEFORE the season starts?

In the time before free agency all star games (such as the Pro Bowl) were more interesting. With the NFL it was bragging rights for players and fans of what used to be the AFL, versus the old guard NFL. Baseball all star games were at one time the best because at that time they were the only sport with zero regular season games being played between the two leagues/conferences.

Fast forward to today and being named to the Pro Bowl is the equivalent of any other post-season honor, such as Rookie of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, etc. There is no genuine reason to playing the game as opposed to maybe having an award ceremony, perhaps televised with player highlights and other weekend activities.

The game is a total and complete mockery at this point. The only reason it is still held is because, like anything else, follow the money... it is still profitable. At some point fans will tune out, and the exhibition will go the way of the College All Star Game. But just like how an addict will intake inferior drugs rather than go without, a jonesing football fan on the eve of seven months with no games will surely tune in to watch this joke of a game. For right now it is here to stay in its present form - until some creative mind comes up with something else that adds more to the bottom line.

Maybe they could invent a Madden version of the Pro Bowl, played by the Pro Bowl selectees, who would never have to risk injury on the real field.

Still and all, the Pro Bowl should just go away.

Instead, have a big ceremony for the selectees, hand out awards, checks, offer the fans a chance for a meet & greet, photo ops, etc.

But just stop playing that game before someone important gets seriously hurt and ends their career.

Skill competitions. A dodgeball game. Karaoke sing off competition. Tug of war competition. etc..etc..

The game itself is useless.

The Pro Bowl is an anachronism. It has no place in today's NFL landscape.
Yup, the NFL is an anachronistic anaconda...

Good point

That would be good. Anyone wana bet the first complaint about his Madden skill level is a Steeler?

Plus, it cuts into some of their only time off.

Point, but CBA and pay them.

Robert Edwards agrees.

How about bringing back the NFL Champions VS the College All-Stars?

I still say, play it weeks after SB and rotate between warm foreign countries and make it less contact ad more skill competitions, fan participatios,

This way we drop all out of US games.

IMO the Pro Bowl more of an oxymoron.. because of the leadership of a bunch of "morons" who worry about the bottom line more than the game itself;);)

keep the skills competition they did last season. eliminate the actual game.
