The reason sports media has declined (mainly BSPN)

I just don't see the same level of interest in sports with the younger kids as there was 30-40-50 years ago. That's all we did in our spare time and even time when we should have been doing something else. We talked baseball, listened on the radio, traded cards and read about the games. And we all know what the kids do today.

In general, I don't enjoy arguments or blatant/fake negativity, so modern talk radio and BSPN type networks aren't worth my time. (For that matter, neither are modern "News" shows, which are mostly just entertainment broadcasts.) At this point in my life, the only sports I watch are my grandsons' teams and the NFL.

Regarding the NFL, for me, it's really just about the team, the games, the match ups, the plays, and the way the team prepares for the next opponent. I DVR every Pats game and usually spend a few hours in the after-week, re-watching parts or all of it. On Sundays, I am now DVR-ing and watching Red Zone when the Pats aren't playing live.

Mostly, I could care less what the mediots say, since they usually have no credentials or credibility and add nothing. The two exceptions I really cared about were "CameraPlacementGate" and the "Witch Hunt". I followed these in excruciating, detail. I am still frakking enraged!

I am not surprised that BSPN is crashing, as others on this board have discussed the antiquated business model competently and at length. Competition for entertainment is fierce and getting fiercer every year!

Also I agree with the sentiment that PatsFans is the best place to get Pats/NFL news - you guys are amazing.

It really is amazing. I know it is self-serving to say so :) but when I do my almost-weekly schadenfreude lurking at other teams' discussion forums I am amazed at how terrible almost all of them are and how much better this one is than everything.

There was a time when everyone here and all over the country thought Roger Goodell was a great commissioner. Dale Arnold would go ballistic on anyone who thought otherwise. How dare anyone question Lord Roger's integrity.
ONE person, a long time member here, swam against the current. ONE person continually questioned Goodell's motives,integrity,character.... hell, just about everything to do with this fumbling stumblebum corporate criminal.

I'll let you all take a stab at the identity of this Patsfans.com member.....

Charlestown's finest?;)

There is no excuse for a piece of rat scum like Felcher to ever be talking about NE or us fans.I PRAY for a Louisville Slugger to find its' mark on his sub-moronic,jackazz grinning ****face. He is the worst POS in Boston sports radio history....a smug, arrogant Midwestern turd filled with nothing but jealous hatred of us and our passion for our team.

Felcher and his scummy ilk are the prime reason our once vibrant local sports media has STB. Remove these cancerous self-absorbed jerkoffs from local media and we COULD actually experience a local sports media renaissance around here.
Don't hold your breath,though...
,
Joker should replace Felger on the Sports Hub so we can listen to him unleash his anger on Mazz's stupidity for a few hours a day.

Meh, after George Michael it went to hell in a handbasket

ESPN pays 2 Billion per year to the NFL for the Monday Night Football package and highlights. And of course a wild card round playoff game.

Fox pays the NFL 1 Billion per year for all those games lol.. I think ESPN got hosed.

I think Monday Night and Thursday night football sucks. I don't like Monday Night football. I think the main reason I don't like MNF is the over all broadcast. NBC and CBS are the best broadcasters imo.

If BSPN were smart, they would have taken all of their money and started to rebrand what they do; make original programming that goes in depth, explores interesting sides of sports, or maybe make a point to do some of the harder hitting journalism. But they turned into "one of many", failed to understand that they had turned themselves into a commodity, and hoped the brand recognition would carry the day.

Pretty expensive miscalculation...
Original programming is expensive though.

One of the reasons they rely so heavily on shows like First Take is they are relatively cheap to produce; it's just a handful of idiots sitting there screaming at each other. They don't need to pay people to travel around the world, spend hundreds of hours editing, storyboard or having a huge writing team, re-film segments if they didn't turn out right, etc.

ESPN also can't go back to the original original bread-and-cutter of scores and highlights. That format is dead. Nobody is going to go to ESPN for scores when they can go NFL.com/MLB.com/NBA.com and instantly get highlights for the games they care about.
