That guy isn't good enough to play backup, or so I've been informed.

If he's not, then *****ing about the 2019 backup situation will be an appropriate response.

Who knew when Bledsoe went down and Brady came in that he would lead them to their 1st Super Bowl?

You never know....

Interesting how they beefed up the running game, added a DE, Top 5 CB and a DT in FA. I'm also assuming BB is loading up on LB, EDGE/OLB/DE today and throughout the weekend.

Probably not. Next year's QB draft class is supposed to be very good. And if Garoppolo rides the pine all season or has to play and plays poorly, teams may lose interest in him. He will never be worth more than he is now unless Brady goes down for a long period of time and Garoppolo plays spectacularly. But then, the Pats wouldn't trade him anyway.
I never said it was likely. :)

If Bill thinks Jimmy is a franchise QB, don't be too shocked to see him think about making that decision early rather than late.

I imagine on the Green Bay forum, the same discussions were happening regarding Farve/Rodgers.

What we know is that Bill won't be waking up one day saying 'oh, Brady has retired, what are we going to do now?'

Unlike this year, next year's draft is expected to have legitimate QB talent available. Why would the Browns lose a year of JAG and then pay a premium for him in a year when there are other excellent options available?

Well they have the picks to gamble. If jimmy plays well than they have their guy no matter what. As great as the class is let's not forget that you have quarterback busts everywhere. The fact that bill doesn't want to give jimmy G makes 2018-2019 interesting.

Sounds like he wants Garoppollo here as insurance to Brissett in case he gets hurt again.

Hilarious Cousin. If I hear the Pat spew the word "value" again as in "we saw it as a great value", I will be sick. Let's just not use that term anymore.

Four or five top picks for a second string clip board holder in case TB gets hurt and oh by the way, we have to franchise for $24mm next year to sit on the bench again, while his accomplishments in 2016 fade away......perfect!

And oh, oh by the way yet again, the back up was the one that got hurt.

Well Roger must be right about herbius weedius.

i.e I don't agree with the logic here, but then again I don't have 7 rings.

If the Browns suck this year, they'll be in position to draft Sam Darnold. At that point, the desire to pay big money + picks for JAG is likely to be nonexistent for them.

BB is batshit crazy playing 3d chess poker NFL football while everyone else is playing checkers go fish muckle.

Oh, my God! What the hell is BB doing?

Plus the fact that Darnold is about 5 and a half years younger (Darnold doesn't turn 20 until this June).
Also, I think at least coming out of the draft Darnold has a much higher ceiling than Jimmy G did.
Darnold is one of the best QB prospects in the last several years.

Given the way the team is constructed, if the Browns are going to pay the Patriots a King's Ransom in next year's draft, I wouldn't mind see the Pats trying to package together a deal to move up and grab Darnold. He can ride the pine for a couple of years behind Brady while he learns the ropes.

I think the case is as simple as BB has zero incentive to trade Jimmy right now unless he gets his king's ransom.
I am sure Cleveland offered some of their draft capital, but BB probably sees what they have and want them to offer much more or else the Pats can just keep Jimmy.
The real decision isn't until next offseason.
Plus if Jimmy really is okay re-upping with the Pats and waiting for Brady to retire (after 2019 - 3 seasons) I am all for him staying with the Pats.
I just don't think Jimmy will be better than Rodgers/Brady like some people seem to post about.
Jimmy will be great for the Pats, I just hope it isn't until 2019.

More than likely the Browns won't have the #1 pick again. Heck, at 1-15 if 49ers hadn't lost Week 16 the Browns wouldn't have had it this year.

The Jets also look like they're all in to absolutely tank for Darnold.

Another theory is that Bill didn't feel the need for a first this year but would rather have them next year. Cleveland offers their 1st and 2nd this year and Bill says F off. Cleveland sleeps on it last night and is even more freaked out today, they call Bill and offer TWO 1st's next year and one or two 2nd's. Bill says "throw in a 2nd this year and you have a deal", Cleveland bites, Bill wins.

To move up 4 spots in the 1st round to get RG3 the Rams got 2 additional 1st round picks and a 2nd.

If I am BB I want a 3rd 1st rounder or I'm hanging up.

Interesting stuff. (You can define what "stuff" is)

Sounds like the Browns were interested in Trubisky but were surprised that he went so quick. Reportedly will go after JG again. Have some interest in McCarron.

So sounds like they are not ending the night without a QB one way or another.

Browns buzz on trading for Jimmy Garoppolo and AJ McCarron, losing Mitch Trubisky, Kirk Cousins reports and more

1. Jimmy Garoppolo

I'm told the Browns inquired about trading for Garoppolo during the draft, and that their offer wasn't enough for the Patriots. My guess is that they reached out and offered at least their No. 12 overall pick. After that, they acquired the Texans' first round pick in 2018 in a trade down from 12 to 25, giving them two first-rounders for next year. They also have three second-round picks in 2018. Expect the Browns to go back to the Patriots and try again today. They have plenty of ammunition to pull it off, and I'm told the Patriots would do it if the price is right. Are the Browns willing to meet their demands?

One other thing, now that Garoppolo isn't getting traded, the "We can't give up the back up QB this year even for three first rounders because the Pats are all in" brigade are going to declare victory.

Unfortunately, we may never know why Garoppolo wasn't traded to the Browns or anyone else. The only way we will know for sure is if he is the Patriots' starting QB in 2018.

The only possibility that makes sense to me is that Bill is so confident they're heading for another Superbowl this year, that it's worth it to him to have Jimmy as a system-trained backup/insurance for a title run, even if it means losing him for nothing next year.
