I had something similar. Earlier this month I had heart surgery (angioplasty) and had a couple of stents put in. It's really fascinating in what they do. They run a wire from your femeral arteory into your heart check out the major arteories and then if necessary put in stents. You are awake during it, however you are under sedation.

They keep you in the hospital over night mostly because they need to make sure the incision in your femeral arteory has healed enough, and to get rid of the sedative. And it is the sedative that caused me to post.

For the full night and next day I was in the hospital I was even more of a babbling idiot than I am here. I listened to what I was saying out loud, yet knew I was making no sense. At first I thought I was having a stroke. It was the same the next day after I got home. It wasn't until almost 3 days after the procedure before I could string together 2 cogent sentences in a row.

It was very disconcerting to feel that out of control because of the drugs. I was especially disappointing since I didn't even get to be high. ;). Now I've had a few of these procedures over the years, but this was the first one where this happened. So whatever they used, I don't want it again. It only goes to show you just how some drugs can really destroy your cognitive processes, and you can be aware of it and yet totally helpless to do anything about it until it wears off.

PFK,

I had 2 stents put in back in 2005. What was way cool to me was that they had this big honkin' flat screen up above and to the left of me that the doc was using to guide the camera/wire and to place the stents. I could turn my head and watch everything.

They had me on some wikkid pissah drugs so that although like you I was awake, I really wasn't there, though I could watch and hear everything. Kinda hard to explain, but it was fun. BUT....... the REALLY nice part was that the Doc asked if there was any music I wanted to listen to. I said yeah, and motioned to my CD case I had with me. I told them to pull "Dark Side of the Moon" and put it on. He loved Pink Floyd too, so that was that!

Got to watch him do his thing, see my heart beating while he placed the stents, listen to DSotM, and have a great buzz, all while lying naked on warm towels and tended to by hawt nurses.

Exactly. I've had the procedure done now 4 times starting back around 1999. Once they upped my valium because I was asking too many questions. It was the coolest thing. My Doc said most people want to be out of it and find the thought of watching weird. Myself I was looking for the play by play. ;)

BTW- on this last one, I have no memory of what went on, so I was pissed. But it IS amazing some of the things the can do now.

Honestly, that sounds more like something I would expect from a Rats fan than a Bills offensive lineman.

I was awake all during mine. They tried to put in a left coronary artery stent to remedy the 100% blockage but the Doc said after inserting 3 different "wires" up the groin, each larger than before, that it was like chipping cement. The awful part was being on the table so long they called in a nurse to catheterize me. They later said they thought I was under.
So basically they quit the whole thing after several hours and sent me home late that day.

Yeah...well, I've had a number of different procedures over the years but I'll tell you this...I always want to see what the ol' doc is doing when I get a colonoscopy....I don't want any second hand post op "reports" about what they SAY they stuck in my azz....know what I mean, Vern?

I'm assuming you're kidding, but I highly considered having my colonoscopy done without anesthesia. I just don't like being put under.

Recently, I had an endoscopy done wide awake and I did just fine. The doctor and nurses said it was the first one they've done that way in quite sometime. Not sure if I could do the colonoscopy awake though, although one can argue that getting your stomach scoped without anesthesia may actually be worse!

I had the latest colonoscopy yesterday. Was out for it, but they included pics in the report they gave me. Interesting, but still not as good as the vids from my first knee
'scope. And they even laughed at my complaint about the report not mentioning any observations of my cranium...

Couple this with the report from about half a month ago about how many painkillers some linemen are on just to keep playing the game, and the fact that some of them are mixing painkillers in ways not recommended by medical science even before we get to the question of recreational legal and illegal drugs -- and a lot of the humor goes out of this thread.

Unless, of course, you are Hunter Thompson.......

This is how "wearing a T-shirt and underwear" .......... becomes "not wearing pants"........... becomes "not fully clothed" ........... becomes "was running naked"....... jeez

He could still recover one day..now that he has came out and admitted being in buffalo.

He must have just watched Trey Flowers Super Bowl tape. I can understand him :)

After hearing that NE signed Gillislee to an offer sheet Cyrus Kouandjio went off the rails, as the rememberence of the theft of Chris Hogan was still fresh in his mind..

You know everyone's going to jump on illegal droogs as the reason but I'm more curious about the surgery note.

As someone who ****ing lost their goddamn mind for a week on a certain muscle relaxer prescribed to my doctor I'd be curious to see if that might be involved.

I was dating a new girl, just cast in a show had a good job and I was calmly talking to her about how much I wanted to kill myself. I had a moment of lucidity and I was like 'wait...this makes no sense, I don't want to kill myself.' I work in IT so troubleshooting is my thing and I worked out the variables and realized that I had started taking that muscle relaxer a week or so before. Cut them out and all the suicide fantasies went away.

It actually really shook me up in terms of realizing just how susceptible we are to chemical changes in our body no matter how much we want to view ourselves as something more than meat.
Is your avatar a pic of the lady you dated?
