Another year with Amendola: WR signs reduced contract

I love me some Danny Amendola... #2 favorite Patriot behind #12. Happy to see he is back. I remember the days of old when Brady6 would go on and on about Amendola. Was very happy to see that he saw the light after the 14' playoffs. Amendola to me is what the Pats represent. Do your job no matter how small or large the role. His role has been small yet his presence has loomed large in clutch situations. I hope to see the same this year!

I am glad we are keeping amendola, but perplexed why we cut tre Jackson. I know he was playing like jag when we last saw him and we know he has a history of knee issues, but why cut him now?
Speculating but I'm willing to bet the team was less that impressed with his rehab work during the offseason.

Today was judgement day.

This is where people lose touch with reality. You do realize DA is operating vs the #3 CB usually. If he was up against the #1 CB like JE (or being doubled), there would not be so much Amendola love.

I think you are losing touch with reality because in the real world Amendola is responsible for the majority of clutch catches in the last 3 years. It doesn't matter if its against CB1 or CB3, you still gotta make the play. Certain players couldn't even catch balls when they were uncovered during Superbowls.

Also, quite frankly, it says a lot that McD went to Dola twice when the game was on the line against the Falcons (TD and 2pt) showing that they have trust into him doing exactly what he supposed to do without experiencing the aforementioned Welker-esque dropsies.

Stop belittling his performance and start enjoying it.

He had lingering knee issues that make him fall in the draft, then he spend the full year on PUP last season and the preseason workout program just started. If you put those things together it looks like the medical eval wasn't particularly positive and the team is moving on.

Would be nice if some of the more celebrity types on the Patriots brought Amendola in on some of the advertising to show appreciation. I'm sure there's a "clutch" advertising pitch to be made for some product out there.

DA is DA MAN on & off field. This guy is so clutch and deserves every penny and all accolades when it counts come Playoff time and gives continues to give back to stay a Pat.

Spookydola: he hangs around the periphery of the team, makes an appearance for the occasional miracle, then wanders off into the mist again, only emerging to renegotiate his contract downward. It's a VERY weird story! Glad to have another iteration.

Danny Amendola was never the Wes Welker replacement we had hoped for when we signed him. But he's given us more clutch plays than we could've expected.
Why the hell would anyone disagree with this?? It's clear as day. The guy's been MONEY when we most needed him.

Wonder if BB arranged for him to get involved with Victoria Culpo.. what evil lurks in the minds of men. They seem to be making a lot of news lately, Coachella etc. Not Brady/Bunchen news, but more than most.

Count them however you want. Over the last 3 seasons, the Patriots have had 5 WR + Slater on the team. The point is that they're seemingly unlikely to carry 6 WR + Slater, given prior team building history, so anyone new will have to take the spot of one of the guys currently on the roster, listed above.

You realize that Brady has as many career receptions as Slater, right? Should I count Brady in the WR depth chart?

I am not belittling his performance which was great. I am belittling the suggestion that he is/was our best WR in the playoffs after the monster postseasons Hogan and Edelman had. Also the suggestion by some that we pay him the $6 million.

You know what else was clutch about the 2 point play. Hogan and Edelman were left outside to make do or die blocks. Miss them and the play blows up. They didn't.

I'm glad to see Amendola back; he's a valuable backup who can come in and make clutch catches.

If Danny makes it on the roster (which I expect) then he will have been on the Pats for 5 years, officially surpassing his previously longest tenure (4 years) with the Rams.

Time for him to make it 3 rings in 5 years, worth the discounts!

@SuperStang83 should have the ethics to state what in this post caused him to hit "Dislike".

Yeah, sorry I didn't follow your rules. I thought it was pretty simple to understand that he has other choices.

I am glad Danny stayed with the Patriots. He like everyone else knows their role and performs it well. I have to believe he knew and his agent knew his value wouldn't be as high for some other team.

Like what? Take less money from other teams with lesser QBs who wouldn't know how to use a 31 year old short, white WR? Or retire and become a male model?

You're completely correct, he had options.

But thanks for finally getting the nerve to state your case instead of ringing a doorbell and running away.

Are these your unwritten rules or are they written up somewhere formally?

Danny is a "good kid".
