The Patriots can win the Super Bowl next year without Hightower and Butler both.

Well they would have to move in on zach brown. As long as brady and bill are here they will always have a chance.

Or Zach Brown and DeAndre Levy both? You could get that for around what the Jets are offering Hightower.

Hightower can buy alot of cupcakes in new york with all that money while we smash his new team twice every sunday.

Hightower didn't have as many solo tackles as years before. His numbers when down this year. Maybe it was the injuries.

Winning a sb without ht would that be almost as hard as without gronkowski? Cause that can't be done obviously.

I don't believe that. Our linebackers could be a weakness but we still have a good defensive backfield. Our offense will put up points so that could lesson the pressure bjt i expect put pass defense to be good. Our run defense would have to improve.

ESPN New York reports the Jets are making an "all-out blitz" for free agent LB Dont'a Hightower.

It jibes with CBS' Jason La Canfora's reporting. Per reporter Rich Cimini, the Jets are willing to make a "blockbuster" offer to a player who had been seeking $12 million per season. Both La Canfora and Cimini report the Jets are offering the most money, but that Hightower still seems inclined to return to New England.

This makes no sense. The Jets have many needs but ILB and, more broadly run defense, is not amoung them.

They have a team with no offensive weaponry, no outside pass rush and nothing in the defensive backfield & their big offseason acquisition is an ILB?

Signing Hightower would be the most quintessential Jets move ever, wasting valuable cap space on a non strategic asset to try to annoy the Patriots and generate positive headlines. They are forever a directionless franchise with no long range plan to compete against the lions of the NFL.

It means either jets or us
The reported deal is that HT not leave Pittsburgh. No one can confirm this yet, at least that I've seen.

All we know for sure is that he definitely left team HQ and went back to the hotel, which should be somewhat assumed unless anyone expected him to sleep there tonight.

He can become Eddie Lacey at Molly's or Magnolia on Bleeker in the Village. Plenty of cupcakes and the ones at Molly's are amazing.

I don't know where you pulled the $14million AAV from, but if the Jets offered him that, he should absolutely take it.

That much extra money for no reason benefits the Patriots for the next 5 years.

I think that's what is going to take for the jets to have a shot at him, a monster deal close to those numbers.

Where are the Jets getting the cap room?

There kind of is a rush to get something done. Thats why these contracts happen fast usually. Because if he signs elsewhere the pats have to move on to contingency plans.

Did you stop to think that the Patriots are FINE with waiting however long it takes because they plan on adding a LB in the draft?

Contracts happen so fast because these teams are in a hurry to win the off-season and get new ticket holders in many cases. Especially teams like the Browns, Jets, Chargers, and Rams.. They're trying to show the fans that they are "doing whatever it takes to turn the franchise around".

The Patriots, and very few other teams, don't need to be like that. Why? Because they're winners.. Yes, the Pats moved on Gilmore, Guy, and Burkhead, but only Gilmore was a "surprise".

I'd have more respect for him if he just signed with the jets or browns for the money and got it over with. Then the pats can move on. Zach brown will be gone soon. So will other players.

How do other FAs sign so quickly, ever think of that? No, too busy being sanctimonious.

Do you honestly think he cares about your respect? You're a blimp on the rear-end of an elephant to him. He needs to do what's best for him. And if that means taking a few days during the 1st week of Free Agency to get his affairs in order before making a decision, who the hell are you to say it's not ok. Only a complete moron would not think about the repercussions of moving his family to someplace like New Jersey or Pittsburgh.

As far as after taxes Hightower would make the same with the Pats at $11m per as he would at $12m per for the jests.

If you're right, thanks for your service Dont'a Hightower, it'll be a pleasure kicking your ass twice a year for the next five.

I'm not sure the Jets would offer quite that much though.

The Jets are otherworldly pathetic. Like, holy s.hit. They exist just to annoy.
