That's not how it works usually. Instead of risking missing out on their plan B they usually set a hard deadline and then just move on. See Welker/Amendola or Butler/Gilmore.

The fact they haven't with HT is either because they are pretty confident that he will be back or because they don't plan to sign anyone to replace him specifically but will as usual replace his role by committee. Both are equally likely..

The Steelers will take a look at a number of players, but their attention will be focused on outside linebacker T.J. Watt, the younger brother of Houston Texans defensive lineman J.J. Watt and one of the top outside linebackers in this year’s draft.
