have really been paying attention to the Patriots the last 15 years.

Yes, BB & Co have owned the off season, so far, on paper.....

but this nonsense of "loading up for TB's last years" or "going all in" for next year is just nonsense

BB & the Pats have always tried to put the best team on paper each year with the goal of winning the superbowl each and every year.....and he has shown a propensity to not mortgage the future to get it done

quite simply he works the system better then anyone, he has a plan, a system if you will, and he attempts to build the best team possible given all of the variables that are in play.....and he won't sacrifice long term viability of the franchise within that process

what you are seeing this offseason is nothing more than peak BB Patriots, with everything falling more or less into place for them.....nothing new, nothing different, just at the top of their game

Well said.

this is also why i can't make a prediction for a JG trade lol

if the deal is right and makes the Patriots better now and down the road, they'll pull the trigger (i think it has to be the Browns #12 and another high round pick at least)

if not, he'll sit on him and have a solid back up this year, and deal with it down the road......

they won't move him just to move him, they'll keep him as a solid backup and take their compensatory pick and run.......or they'll get a deal that makes this team better now and in the future, shake his hand and embrace the brisset back-up era

it's maddening to watch sometimes, but sometimes it is pure mastery

Yea I don't see the "loading up" or "going for broke future be damned" attitude either.

However unlike other recent years I do see the team being more agressive in free agency and trades this offseason.

When we dig deeper into the actual contracts and cap hits and trades it is "managed agressiveness" and prices at-market and not "overspends" so to speak.

either they are taking advantage of the cap raise, or they see a better fit at need positions via FA over the draft, is my guess....

I think bb has altered the strategy a bit this year.

He is seeking young veterans at reasonable as approved to older ones at below market value.

No question. Its a combination of factors.

Cap spend/availability, Good players available. Players leaving. Players in the draft they don't/do like...

Its the same every year but this year provides the opportunity to be more assertive.

Planets and stars aligning so to speak.

players gotta play, but right now it has been masterful

he's gotta pull something to have a pick in the first 2 rounds, doesn't he?

I dont think a single person has suggested this

There have absolutely been out of town writers (and the local morons we know and love) without knowledge of how BB runs the joint who have implied that because of Tom's age, they have said the Pats are moving away from their traditional practice of bargain hunting and drafting the future to signing big ticket players.

It boggles my mind that even though we all acknowledge that we have the GOAT coach, we're still complaining. Maybe complaining is not a great word, whining.

We have no idea about all the internal dealings and politics. We have no idea the morale and ego in the locker room. We have no idea about the scheme changes that happen year to year. We have no idea about the health of our players.

They have 3 3rds so the certainly have the capital to move up.

Aside from Hightower, Malcolm and Jimmy I sense 1-2 more big moves.

One can logically, and reasonably, make any of the following arguments:
  • BB's loading up for a final run or two under Brady, while Keeping JAG under contract during that time
  • BB's loading up because he's gonna trade JAG
  • BB's loading up because he's gonna trade Brady this/next year
  • BB's loading up because he's going to move both JAG AND Brady in the next 1-2 years, and Brissett's gonna be the man
  • BB's seemingly acting weird, for him, because all that salary cap space is burning a hole in his pocket, and he's just taking advantage of a rare opportunity.

Great post.

If anything Belichick comes across as the sort who would want to leave his successor in a decent position to continue winning. And if he's not leaving any time soon he's definitely not gonna hurt the team's future prospects for the short term. Shula's record is still within reach for Bill.

The idea that we're spending lavishly without regards for value is inane. People who are calling this 'all-in' are killing me.

Next we'll be getting posts about shotguns vs rifles. <--- only old patriots fans will get this.

So don't talk about it until I want you guys to talk about it. Understood.

What's your point? Shut the hell up about the Patriots future? Don't talk until you're spoken to?

This fan base was built on our grandfathers and fathers backs, nothing beyond that, as the Steelers, Giants, and Redskins had. This fanbase has been paying attention since 1960. 15 years? Try competing with three of the top teams in their respective sports throughout time (Celtics, Red Sox, Bruins), and ending up as the pinnacle franchise. They did that all with fans that started watching 15 years ago?

There is understanding football, and there is understanding what the New England Patriots mean to football in New England.
