Patriots trade for Carolina DE Kony Ealy

I would have felt better if it wasn't for a second rounder. To be honest i feel like he's worth a fourth rounder. He hasn't been the
player that came out of college. He had a big game in the superbowl and that's about
it.
they moved down 8 spots..quit saying it was only a second rounder..my gosh

This may have been mentioned before. I have not read the whole thread. Given that this is a contract year I'm sure he'll have a very good year and if we can't sign him for next year to a bigger deal I believe will get a comp pick right?

A perfect Belichickian move.

Edit: Never mind. Everyone pointing it out.

But can he set the edge? Does he freelance? Does he maintain lane integrity?

From what I know. Yes, No, Yes and he drops into coverage. He is a good all round DE. Not the best run defender but serviceable.

Steep price to pay for a one year rental. Better be an extension coming because you don't throw 2nd away for rentals do you?

Edit: Nevermind. May get a 3rd if he leaves in FA.

They got a 3rd in return in the trade. Plus may get a 3rd or whatever if he leaves.

You should edit again. After actually reading what the trade was for.

Well there's some good players early in this draft and we only have one pick at number 32 until we reach 72. That number 32 could be dealt for brandin cooks
I can appreciate this as a concern. That said, relax man. This trade today is a good thing. It replaces one of our DEs (Long, Sheard) for a cheap cost. It's one of those low risk/high reward type of signings.

No. We will see. Seem's like bill's not in love with this draft. I just hope we don't lose hightower.

You keep saying that while ignoring everything everyone here has told you at least a dozen times.

I'm wondering in how many different ways you'll end up saying the exact same erroneous thing.

Y'all STILL haven't learned to trust BB?!??!?:D

Criteria: is he an upgrade on Jabal Sheard?

.
It's actually a pretty fair question. Without the Patriot's magic, I'd say SLIGHTLY no.

Obviously, there's plenty of potential and, at the price we paid, I'll be honest, I might have sounded too harsh, this was an pretty good deal

I am more convince after this move that jimmy G ain't getting traded for draft picks.

So we going to go crazy over that one game? Potential. He has potential. I basically see this as sheard coming to new england to play.

Except he's coming considerably cheaper than Sheard. And, doesn't negatively effect compensation picks. In fact, a big year, and he likely nets us a 3rd round comp pick after he cashes in.

I don't understand your negative outlook on this. If all he is is Sheard 2.0, it's a positive for us. We get a productive player for the value of moving down a whopping 8 spots on draft day. For a cheaper wage than Sheard. The potential for more is very real. which would steer this even further in our favor.

Ealy: 6040/275, 34.25" arm, 9.5" hand, 4.45 shuttle, 6.83 3-cone, 22 reps.

Ealy is slightly bigger and had much better agility testing than Sheard, otherwise almost identical test numbers across the board.

Sheard turns 28 in mid-May.
Ealy turns 26 at the end of December.

Regular season stats, last two seasons:

Sheard: 1136 snaps (+35 ST), 6 PD, 4FF, 13 sacks, 70 total tackles
Ealy: 1271 snaps (+143 ST), 1 INT, 5 PD, 5 FF, 10 sacks, 64 total tackles

Sheard: 2nd-round, #37 pick in 2011
Ealy: 2nd-round, #60 pick in 2014

Ealy is scheduled to receive $900k for 2017 on the last year of his rookie deal (so UFA at the end of this season).

The Pats traded the draft value equivalent of a late fifth rounder for him. By your own evaluation, it's a good deal for them. Have you just not read any of the dozen posts in this thread correcting you on what the trade was? It's getting really hard to take you even a little bit seriously, because you're so far off on what they gave up and seem utterly determined to continue ignoring it.

Don't be messing with da pimp of hot takes! Jokes aside, it's good to see others catching on to stuff he posts on a daily basis...

Ealy will be better than sheard. Sheard was a healthy scratch last year for poor Peformance. Ealy can rush the passer, and has a very high motor. Our scheme will bring out his best.

Patriots are Defending Super Bowl Champion but they are acting like they are trying to catch-up/chase everyone else.;)
