Pats not trading Garoppolo - Schefter

Also and I hate to say this, cause we all know Felger. But Felger brought up and interesting point. If the Pats want to trade JG, JG's agent could tell any team trying to sign him to go screw because I will not sign a long term deal with you. Thus any team trying to trade for JG would most likely not give up much if they don't have a guaranteed deal in the works.

Felger is saying when JG is a free agent he can basically pick and choose where he wants to go or at the very least has more control over his destiny..

If JG gets traded to Cleveland this season and he has an average or below average year for what ever reason, he won't be able to cash in... like he would if he just waited a year and then signed as a free agent in 2018.

It does make some sense.

I think all this Patriots posturing is as much for Don Yee/JG as it is for teams who are interested. JG is going to want as much money in a long term contract as possible to any team that he is being traded to. The more he wants, the less trade comp that Pats will get. Pats need to show they are willing to hold onto JG so that he will be agree to a reasonable contract so we can max out our comp. Once Yee/JG agree on terms of a contract then and only then can Pats figure out with other teams what trade compensation they are willing to offer up.

I think someone will. QB is obviously the most important position on any team and whike that have busted some balls on Garrapolo succeeding Brady I think a good number of teams have assessed their QB situation and the QB's available in this draft and realize Garrapolo gives them a much better chance to win now, and in the NFL nothing matters more than that. I'm not greedy though, I would settle for the Browns 1st overall in return for JG.

You would but I wouldn't It wont even buy his replacement... This years collegiate QBs suck...

I agree with the father time concept but I also acknowledge that father time treats those who eat avocados differently that those who eat meat lovers pizza with a 2 liter bottle of diet coke.

Is it really that hard to believe that a guy who treats his body the way Brady does would last five to seven years longer than the average QB?

He already has...

It makes sense but Dooch is waaaay overestimating Jimmy Gs leverage.

Right now Jimmy G has zero leverage. The Patriots own his rights. They will trade him to whomever they want.

Jimmy is in no position to dictate where he goes and what he demands contractually until he builds up some stock or becomes a FA.

He does have one bit of leverage -- he can tell NE and/or teams X, Y, Z "I won't sign an extension with teams X, Y, or Z". That will make it much harder to trade him to those teams for what NE wants because they'll be less likely to be willing to cough up a high pick since they'll have a greater risk of losing JG (or having to franchise him) after a single season.

Can anyone answer this (perhaps studid) question: are there any restrictions on what discussions JG and his agent can have with prospective trading teams about the extension he's willing to do with them so they know how much they can offer the pats? I.e. is there a chicken and egg problem or can all parties freely share info anytime?

Yes, we know, you want to get rid of the greatest player in football coming off the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history to try out a player who couldn't make it through two games.

File that under dumbest idea ever.

And they can then tell him they will stick a transition tag on him and match the offer and keep him on the bench for as long as they want.

I like Garrapolo but if he wants to screw around the Patriots can play hardball like no one else.

And he has been getting better each of the last three seasons, went 14-1 and won them their 2nd Super Bowl in the last three seasons. To put that in perspective that's as many as Montana and Favres successors (Young and Rodgers) have won in their careers, and Brady did it in just 3 seasons, not fifteen.

Is that the same Felger that has been steadfastly maintaining that the Jets front office is the one with the right model for winning championships?

That Micheal Felger?

You're right, he's a f.cking genius.

The amount of complete disrespect for Tom Brady in this forum is nothing short of astounding. He has given everything to this franchise and its fans and people give him both middle fingers in return. Unbelievable.

Sure and BB calls him on it.

He gets to languish in NE for another year and piss of other fan bases.

Career suicide.

Agree completely, it's the Felger scenario and we all know how he likes to throw out as much bullsh.t as possible.

Potential trade partners can't talk at all with Yee/Garoppolo without permission from the Patriots. If some team did and because of some understanding that was reached between that team and Garoppolo, Garoppolo refused to sign a contract with the team that made the Patriots the best offer, that would be an egregious case of illegal tampering, which, in theory—and only in theory because the Patriots would be the victim—would subject the tampering team to a loss of draft picks.

No one here is disrespecting Brady. Some of us are questioning if he can maintain this level of play into his 40's, when literally no other QB in the history of the league has ever done it.

The odds are that the Pats will need a new QB in the very near future & that it is highly unlikely they will find another QB as good as JG. Securing JG over the long run, gives the Pats a chance at another 10 year championship window. I can't think of anything, other than retaining BB's services, that is more important to the organization.

Couldn't disagree more, the Max Kellerman " he's going to fall off a cliff" argument has been employed throughout this thread and there has been a complete disregard for the fact that Brady has been getting better, not worse, while at the same time people are acting as if Jimmy Garrapolo is some kind of LOCK as a franchise QB, when the truth is that he went 1-0 and couldn't make it through two games while Brady went 14-1 and won them another Lombardi. If I were Brady I would tell the Patriot fans spewing this sh.t to go screw themselves.

Those are your odds, reality is that he's the best player in football and has shown absolutely no sign of deteriorating.

Feel free to make a fact based argument that he has been getting worse, so far not one person has been able to do so.

He's great, and I don't think it's fair to say people on this board don't show him a lot of love and respect. Damn, we basically worship the guy.

Does it really comes down to avocados over pizza? I like avocados and pizza.

Brady came within two points of going undefeated this season and led them to the greatest win in NFL history less than a month ago and there are still s bunch of Patriot fans who literally cannot wait to get rid of him so their binky can take over. Politics aside it is the stupidest thing I have ever seen.
