2017 NFL Combine Thread

Good for him. Its the biggest thing a lot of these guys dont seem to grasp. GMs and teams want to see how much you love football. Peppers position has only been defined as "football player", which should kill him. But, if you celebrate that, own it, and just do everything, some team will put their chips in for you.

And if there's one team in this league that's known to love guys who love football, and love guys who are defined as "football players" more than any other...... Remember that Matthew Slater and Julian Edelman were both drafted with Belichick saying, "Athlete" as their position.

To @manxman2601's point earlier about the Pats being hot for Su'a Cravens last year and looking for someone to fill that role? If they think he can put on another 5-10 lbs of muscle and not have it impact his playing speed (which is an open question), I wouldn't be surprised if he is the guy at 32. If they lose Harmon, they could move DMc back to Harmon's role in the 3 safety nickel sets, and rotate Chung and Peppers between the other safety spot and the hybrid LB spot depending on the matchups.

On a par with Lewis. Probably better than Woodhead. McCaffrey is an underrated inside runner but, and this is where it's hard to forecast, does so running behind the Stanford Ol which is big and often runs multi-TE sets.

He can really shake guys when he gets some holes. But his holes he was running through were significant. Watching him against Washington early in the year was probably the closest you will see to him going against an NFL defense, and he had some serious struggles getting any separation with so much attention.

I hate that I sound so negative about the guy all the time, cause I truly love his game and think he will be a game changer. It's a value concern more than a player concern.

I'm not concerned about his value per se as a first round pick, I think he's worthy of it. My only issue is how hecstacks up against other positions and what the Pats intend to do with Lewis and White long term. But if he's the best player on the board at 32?

I wouldn't rule Peppers out, partly because of the Cravens thing which I too have been thinking about, but also because he, and McCaffrey, offer immediate value as returners.

Cook at 4.5 should put to rest the Chris Johnson comparisons. He's a nice player, but people were going crazy with the 4.3 or better predictions.

Gallman at only 4.57, but I still like him as one of my top 3 backs for the Patriots. He's just so physical and tough. I'll take him here anyday.

Perfectly within expectations and ok for his playing mode. Also good that he doesn't climb the boards. Still have him as most serious option for Pats if they go RB in 3rd. Would absolutely love to have him.

Sorry to bang on about this. I haven't watched the drills but McCaffrey is getting rave reviews about his receiving.

Only giving himself one chance to run a decent forty.

Something to watch out for tomorrow. Njoku says he's going to break the broad jump record.

Alright, to offset my McCaffrey hate, here are two things about McCaffrey that are huge positives that barely get brought up.

1. He's one of the youngest players in the entire draft. You might undervalue that, but the historical data says it makes a significant difference for skill position players. Also being able to compete at such a high level and having so much success from the hop is quite impressive.

2. Stanfords strength and conditioning program completely underutilizes weight training. The reasoning being, they work significantly more on lengthening muscles and flexibility, while key strength gaining is better in the mid 20s, while better guarding against tendon injuries. It will show up for bigger linemen, but is equally important for guys who may be a little undersized for the position. So, for a guy who is a little undersized for our prototype, there is still a chance he gets there pretty quickly. Also explains why he put up such poor bench numbers.

Food for thought.

McC remains a very enticing luxury.. would love to have it, but won't make or break the season relative to other open spots we have..

I still maintain that the draft is about the next four or five seasons though. That's why Lewis/White being on the team isn't necessarily a deal breaker.

Id say he's a much better runner overall, his vision is excellent, and his patience and understanding of setting up blocks is about as good as they come. To me it shows his football IQ. He also has other small facets of his game that stick out like his protection of the ball, and how he switches his ball carrying had in a flash when needed, and seems to do so just naturally without much thought. I think the only nack against his game is his weight and strength. How will he fair up against bigger NFL players

Speedy Noil says he's going to vertical jump 48" fwiw. Which would be  . I've heard him talked about as a CB convert.
