OT: The TV show I work on...DOUBT

I will give it a look due to respect of a fellow Pats poster but I can't promise long term investment in it. I do wish you pitched a non-network show though. Are those harder gigs to get or do you just really want to stick to network as that is where more money is?

To be clear for anyone interested: I of course would LOVE to write for a cool, edgy cable show, and those are the kind of shows I pitch when I'm in the room trying to get my own shows made - and, as I've said, cable or streaming shows are pretty much exclusively the shows I watch. But there's something to be said for a network show from my perspective, namely it pays a hell of a lot better and you reach a far bigger audience. (For the most part.)

The most important thing here, though: Even if you're not interested in network shows or in THIS PARTICULAR NETWORK SHOW, it would be awesome and helpful and appreciated if you DVRd it or watched or spread the news to folks in your life who maybe ARE open to network programming. Thanks!

Currently New England, but want to move to LA within the next few months.

I've been involved in a few projects myself in the past. Nothing fancy, but have been a start.

Clearly LA is where the action is though. Its just a big move when you don't know many people out on the west coast.

I get it. It's scary in concept, but in actuality you'll get out there, meet people, go to Sonny McLeans to watch the pats and Red Sox, and you'll find your way. You'll find a community, all it takes is a little effort. And if you're young, turn nothing down. Get in some place on the lowest rung, then be excellent at whatever your role is, and make yourself indispensible and be EASY.

Working for CBS if you're into TV is like working for ESPN if you're into sports. You'd be dumb to turn down the opportunity but you shouldn't expect a great product. I say this because CBS seems to be in a very, very bad place with programming right now (besides AFC football!). Bragging about The Big Bang Theory every commercial break...that's gotta be embarrassing.

Unfortunately I can't help with ratings because I only watch things through Netflix/Prime/piracy. Maybe I'll check it out anyway because word of mouth helps if I like it and tell others. Despite ****ting all over CBS, I'm real happy for you, that's a really cool job.

You're not wrong. And I probably watch what you watch - and don't watch what you don't watch! But if you wouldn't mind just spreading the word to friends or parents...setting the old DVR...it would help.

I'll check it out. Good stuff

Hey. I have a plot that might fit a show called "DOUBT".

It entails a football game, a GOAT and a corrupt commissioner. It has lots of twist and turns filled with lies and ignorant accusations that eventually lead to a "vacation". The scientifically ignorant masses cheer as they thought the fraudulent one had finally crucified the great one. But the GOAT rose again only to defeat the corruptioner in his stadium and using his rules. The GOAT was victorious.

The final scene the Fraudulent one wilts to his knees in front of the Great one and stares in disbelief at the five magical rings upon his hand. The Great one stands dominantly over him and says, "Don't you ever DOUBT me again".

Fade to this...

Lol, love this. I'll try to sneak it in.

It won't help him unless you have a Nielsen box or know someone who does and you recommend it to them.

I used to think that, but it's not quite accurate. DVR numbers are trackable for us, so it def helps.

Good luck with your show and thanks for sharing it here. It'll be fun to see the name patsox rolling through the credits. :)

Sometimes I think I've seen more shows with transgenders than I've seen actual transgenders.

Good luck though.

It's definitely new to me, as well. I suspect you've been in the presence of transgender people more often than you realize. It's been a fascinating experience for me learning about it. One thing I'll say for Doubt, it's not in any way an exploitive nod. The show creators son came out to them as transgender a few years ago. Interesting, complicated and challenging stuff. (And not all that much to do with our storylines. Which is, in my view, a refreshing take for TV, network or otherwise.)

Appreciate the advice. Every bit counts.

And I will certainly check out your show.

Hey guys, I just wanted to beg your indulgence and spread the word about the TV show I spent the last several months of 2016 working on. It's a legal drama called Doubt and it premiered last Wednesday night on CBS. It will continue to air on Wednesday nights (10 pm) for the foreseeable future, unless we get canceled.

Would love it if you guys and/or girlfriends, wives, significant others would consider watching OR EVEN JUST DVR-ing. It'll help us with the numbers, and as a mid season show we really need the numbers!

Thanks so much. Back to football...
My girlfriend already dvrd it.
Can I ask what is your role in the show?

Regarding DVRing a show and Nielsen ratings: I read somewhere that if a person watches within three days then it still counts towards Nielsen ratings, but networks want that pushed up to seven days.

Unfortunately it is a moot point unless you have a Nielsen box in your home.

The best thing you can do to help JC out is talk about the show with your friends, co-workers, etc. Eventually it will filter from one of us to somebody that currently has one of those black boxes, which represents thousands of viewers.

I have one, although I'm not an expert on it I'm just going off what they told me. I don't know about a time limit but he said it isn't tracked unless I watch something. The sound from my box is routed through the Nielsen box then to the television. Until it captures the sound going to the television it's not tracking. Maybe DVRs are tracked by other means, I don't know. I'm not sure about a wait time, but if not SB 51 is getting increasing ratings every few days.

I had one several years ago. At the time I didn't have a DVR, so I'm not much help there. Tried to find that column on the three days/DVR, but could not locate it.

Apparently Nielsen has changed their boxes somewhat in the interim. With mine we were given a separate remote, programmed for each each household member (for demographic purposes). There were extra buttons for guests, where we would be prompted for M/F and input their age. We had to select which of us was watching on their remote every time we turned on any television in our home.

Rather than relying on audio to insure the cable box was on but tv was off, the remote and Nielsen box would both flash after a certain amount of time (I think two hours?) to insure somebody was still there watching. That could be annoying at times.
