OT: USA Today says Broncos not interested in Romo... could he go to the Jets?

That was the news here in Denver a while back. Romo will go to the Chefs I think...

I wouldn’t want to see him go to the Texans. If they had an NFL caliber qb last season they could have given the Patriots a real run for their money.

So any team trading for Romo is doing Dallas a favor.

Maybe Dallas should staple a draft pick to Romo to get someone to take him.
Yeah, it's probably not too likely that someone would trade for him due to his salary and the need to give up a draft pick.

I'm not convinced the Broncos have zero interest in Romo. They may not want to pay the trade compensation the Cowboys are asking for, or pay Romo his current salary.

But if he gets cut or the price tag changes, I could see them jumping back in.
Without a doubt, I could certainly see them showing interest. Yep.

Don't put it past the Bills to give it a try. They're dumping Tyrod and yet the GM still thinks they're ready to compete for a Super Bowl.

Tony Romo trade, free agency signing could be a career-ending mistake for a GM

In other words, that other QB from Eastern Illinois is a better risk.

Teams that might take a chance on Romo? Here are ones that have a need, but some might pass on him:
  • Cleveland
  • Bears
  • 49ers
  • Buffalo
  • Texans (realistically as good as it gets, now that Broncos are passing)
  • Jets
  • Vikings
Agree with the author, Romo is going to have to settle for less money for no more than two years.

My pick was the Vikings, but good call on the Texans......how did I forget about them? That would be a PERFECT fit for Romo.

Sure, they would have to deal with Osweiler, but they've already shown that they are not adverse to making the right decision (instead of the easy one) when they benched him in the first place.

....thinking about it more and it's even more perfect (if that's a thing) for Romot to go to Houston.......it's still in Texas and an indoor stadium.

While Denver provides a talented team missing a QB, I don't think the elements are the best fit for him (but I thought the same about Peyton so what do I know).

Broncos reportedly don't want Romo; will Cowboys QB end up with Jets?

Could this actually happen? Slim chance, maybe, but...

...I'm rooting for it. :)
I wouldn't be shocked if that idiot owner starts him on the Cowboys

If the cows had decent management, they'd trade him for even a 7th to get rid of his cap hit. No dead money if traded.

Do you know why Jerrah loves Romo? Without him, they might have five or so seasons competing with the Browns for a higher pick in the draft. In other words, Romo elevated them just enough to fool fans they were a contender and sell out games.

Romo sounds like a dumb enough idea for the Jets to make it happen.

No. they will eat the same hit whether he is traded or cut. They keep the unamortized bonus.
The team that gets him is stick with his salary but no bonus.

I'd be lying if I said Romo to the Jets didn't worry me a little. If they make some upgrades on the OL and Mangold comes back somewher close to 100%, that could be a strong offense with Romo at QB. Lots of ifs, though, and that's without mentioning the defense.

I dunno, though. If Romo's released, there's a good handful of teams that make more sense for him to want to go to than the Jets. The Chiefs or Texans almost make too much sense not to happen. And if the Jets trade meaningful assets to get him, then that's kinda a win for us in its own right, because they'll find a way to jets it up and then they'll be out a pick or two for good measure.

Romo is better than Eli, two screwy SB wins not withstanding, but not as good as Peyton. Like Peyton, pretty stats, but disappoints at crunch time. Neither Eli or Romo are HOF. With four Pro Bowl selections, Romo is way better than Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson, two QBs that happened to drive the bus of a champion.

In different timing, Romo could have won a SB in SF, Baltimore, Seattle, Pittsburgh. If he was in NE, he also would have won, but maybe 1-2 championships instead of 5?

Cowboys would have downright sucked this past decade without him. Games would not have sold out and maybe Jerrah would not be in the HOF.

Part of the reason for Romo's recent injuries and choking is he is a gun slinger.

If Denver hadn't had a coaching change, Romo would have been a perfect choice to go there. With the new coach, things are a bit more murky, but I still wouldn't rule it out.

Some speculation on the speculation:

1. First of all NO trade of Romo makes a lot of sense to any team without a LOT of cap space, since whomever trades for him will not only give up a pick but a top dollar QB. (along with his age, injury history and other baggage). I don't see Jerrah trading him to a dog team.

2. That being said, the ultimate "right thing to do" would be to cut him with a June designation. If Jones is even half truthful about the way he respects Romo, then that is what they should do. (btw- its also the best move for them cap wise as well.

3. IF he is released, and IF he is willing to make a bit less than top dollar, the ONLY team that makes any sense for him would be Houston. If he stays healthy, he'd give them a legitimate chance at a superbowl run, and really why else would he want to stick around. Certainly not to play for the freakin' Jets or Niners.

4. Houston makes much more sense than the Broncos. Elway needs to know if Siemian or Lynch is his QB of the future. I know the future is now for that aging defense, BUT the Broncos had one of those "would've, could've" seasons and weren't far away from the playoffs with what they had. Lynch was a first round pick they NEED to know if he can play, and picking up Romo and his cap space and other baggage would be real risky business. I think Elway is a not a all or nothing GM

The Jets are at the cap limit and have to cut guys ti sign other guys (see Ryan Clady). They should be in blow it up mode, not sign an aging QB who maybe gives us a shot at .500 mode. Although I hope they are in Romo mode.

No.
I think Romo will either retire or go someplace where he thinks he can help a team contend for a ring. I doubt he's interested in baby-sitting two QB's who are "projects" while hoping, maybe, to win eight games.
