Should we go all in for the next 2 years?

The preBrady and BB teams did it your way. You are asking bb to stop doing it right because the people who did it wrong failed.
No they didn't. They let Curtis Martin walk. As long as TB12 is your qb, I understand the reason for not going all in for 1-2 particular years. Because, he can help you win a championship every year he has a good roster. I doubt any semblance of our current roster can win it all without TB12. Brady isn't going to be our qb forever. I'd like to give him the best shot at winning our next title. The window is closing. Not counting on his successor to fill in without a significan fall-off at that position.

Going "all in" just isn't in BB's blood... I can't imagine it'll happen. Bill will make some good moves but it'll always be with one eye firmly locked on maintaining for the future, not just right now.

The only aspect of going "all in" that I can see BB doing, is franchising Hightower for next season only, a la Welker. Other than that, there is no need to do anything diffrtent, and the Pats should still be strong contenders to win the SB.

BB will keep the Pats contending every year like he always does, and he nevery goes "all in".

Do you think Brady will play forever?

I think MB and LR are must re-signs the rest I think are fairly replaceable. Note: Next year the weapons may be better as you get a full year out of Lewis (hopefully); Gronk (hopefully) and a better Mitchell. Plus its not as if the rest of the AFC is loaded. Other than the Raiders and possibly Pitt I don't see any other super strong contenders.

Do you think Brady will play forever?

No, and he might get injured next year or have his skills suddenly fall off, making these short term benefitting moves more detrimental.

I like a team that is competitive every year. The 2007 Pats went undefeated until the SB. You still have to play the game and nothing is guaranteed.

The fact that there have been threads like this for 6 or 7 years now means nothing will change in BB's approach.

Go all in. Max contracts, pay for them 3 years into the future, when you have to tear apart the team anyway. Now is the time.

Depth, discipline and chemistry win championships not star power or talent in vacuum.

We lost 3 of the 4 big names we had last year in C. Jones, Collins and Gronk and yet we had a vastly superior defense and team this year.

Bill replaced Revis with a green Malcolm Butler and now one of them is an All-Pro, Pro Bowl player and the other is washed up.

Instead of signing Revis, he decided to spend those money on McCourty and he has been playing at an elite level.

He gave up Jones and Collins, two of the three players (along with DH) most people thought as our best defensive players and yet he improved our defense to a #1 in the league status.

If it's not apparent by now, he knows what he's doing. I don't see any reason to change the approach.
Collins proved he is useless by signing long term with the Browns too.

By the hair of our chinny, chin chins. And, you're ok letting guys who helped win those games walk?

Is it supposed to be easy?

The only guy who would be really tough to replace is Hightower, and he's not going anywhere. I like a number of them but think they can manage losing any of them. When the offseason is done they will be even better.

Collins proved he is useless by signing long term with the Browns too.

I don't think he's useless at all he just doesn't care that much about football and wanted the payday. He got what he wanted and so did we, I'm fine with that.

There really is nobody out there to even go "all in" with. Look the Pats have a great team already. They need to re-sign Hightower and Butler at the very minimum.

I'm hoping that Flowers makes a Butleresque leap in year three after having a great Superbowl.

The [pats already have 41 guys under contract for 21017 and 19 Free Agents (restricted and unrestricted).

Assuming they resign:

Hightower
Butler (RFA)
Fleming (RFA)

and rounds 1-4 draft picks, then you are only talking about roughly 4 or five roster spots up for grabs.

BB has traveled the landscape of NFL teams with his first exclamation point coming as a DC with the Giants. then as the head coach of the Browns.

However, BB is now and forever going to be a Patriot. He'll not sell out the organization for a last hurrah as the Patriots will continue after he decides to retire (and hopefully not too soon, but he has nothing left to prove to me as a fan and I appreciate all he puts into the team).

BB will leave the team is a good position with a transition worked out between him and the Krafts.

Interesting. Nowhere in here have we talked about the family that writes the checks that pay the bills...and will continue to write those checks long after Brady and Belichick are gone.

I imagine that Robert and Jonathan Kraft are taking a long term view, now that they have broken every record they set out to break when they figured out what they had in BB and TB. I imagine that they're studying carefully what happened to the Steelers and Cowboys and 49'ers after their runs and why they had to wait so long for success to return...in some cases, still waiting.

Let's remember what Kraft says his goal is for every season: win the Division and be competitive in the Playoffs. I don't think that vision includes mortgaging the future. Jonathan is only 52. His dad will turn 76 this year. Assuming that he's in good health, Jonathan is thinking of the next 25 years. And, remember, these are two guys who started building a new Stadium in Foxborough before Brady took a snap as starter.

If I put myself in their shoes, I'm leaving one more big decision to Belichick...the selection of Brady's successor. I'm not smart enough to make that decision. If they trade Garoppolo, it will only be because Belichick has a plan.

I think Josh and Matt have hung around because one of them is the next HC and it's mostly been worked out and they're both fine with it.

As for Brady, I think they'll extend him by giving him one more huge slug of well-deserved cash and a contract that leaves them a lot of outs after a couple of years. I have no idea how that will end, but never forget what Brady's dad said a few years ago...these things "never end as well as you want them to end."

No they didn't. They let Curtis Martin walk. As long as TB12 is your qb, I understand the reason for not going all in for 1-2 particular years. They didn't "let" Curtis Martin walk. Parcells stole him.

The point being that when Brady is done we need the disciplined intelligent approach to building a long term winner more than ever.
Brady is good enough that we don't have to ruin the future for him to win.

If it aint broke, don't fix it.

Although, if they get #6 and are going for #7 in Brady's last year or two, with a chance to surpass all other franchises, **** it go for broke and seal the deal

The fact that there have been threads like this for 6 or 7 years now means nothing will change in BB's approach.
And yet there have been numerous threads and comments for the past year about how Belichick will sign all of Jones, Collins, Sheard, and Hightower---just because there's more available cap space. :D

People don't seem to understand Belichick or his system after all these years, and that's just weird. If anything, he's much more likely to go the opposite route of "all in" in an attempt to leave the next regime in good standing with cap space and draft stock.

Whatever BB wants to do. Once he retires, I won't care if the Pats ever play, let alone win, another game. **** the NYJFL and the 32.

John Elway went "all in". How's that working out for him? One title in five years. Didn't even make the playoffs last season and he has one of the worst offenses and most comically lopsided teams in football. What we are doing seems to be working pretty well. Bill is going to pay players what he thinks they are worth within the confines of the salary cap and at this point, I think he's earned our trust.

First, I know that's not his style. But, Belichick may not even be coaching beyond the
next two years. Also, it's becoming increasingly clear that we're going to deal Jimmy G.
We will probably have a Tom Brady who can win a championship for the next 2-3 years.
Not counting on J. Brissett to continue our amazing run. Let's go all in to get 1 or 2
more titles.

Clarification purposes. By all in, I really mean keeping our guys; Hightower, Ryan,
Butler, Harmon and Bennett. That 3rd-4th year will be more than BB likes to pay.
Why not? Give TB12 the keys to a stacked squad or give em to J. Brissett. I know whom
I'd rather have driving the bus. I don't want to do anything stupid like a Mario Williams
signing in Buffalo, or Suh in Miami. Just keeping a championship team together.

Because, I think we will be better with a healthy Gronk, also signing Floyd on a 1yr
prove it deal. With the picks obtained for Jimmy G and our picks(an extra 3), we have
the chance to be quite a bit better next year. 17-2 wasn't shabby this year:)

Going all in THIS last year would have meant keeping Chandler and Collins, dipping into FA to get an OL or a powerhouse WR, and maybe trading for a Joe Thomas because...Cannon.

Had we done those things, the only difference would be...

BB "goes all in" every year by putting together the roster than can perform on the things he wants from his players.
