Worst Tackling Team in the League

Only an idiot would extrapolate like that from my post, even as a parody. Not that you were doing that.

Only an idiot would deny that the Atlanta defense is clearly an unstoppable force. We have no hope of moving the ball against that juggernaut unit.

Quite possibly the best defense of all time.

People did you watch what the Falcons defense did to the Packers last week? They humiliated them. They have improved a lot this year. This isn't going to be some cakewalk...Yes, we have more weapons than Green Bay, and a better OLine. But it will be a battle to the final two minutes of the game as always, is my guess.

I did watch what they did to an offense led by Jordy Nelson playing with two broken ribs, Cook hobbling around, two O-linemen leaving the game with injury and a 3rd string back running the ball.

Sorry not impressed. And on the flip side I watched GB DB's drop two balls that hit them in the chest that allowed the drive to continue which ended up becoming 14 points instead of 1st down GB.

Yes I mentioned I realize we have more weapons, and GB was injured. But if you watched the Falcons D this year in general, the regular season stats are not indicative of their trend. And they made Rodgers look like Buttfumble Sanchez out there. It's going to be a fight to the finish. Don't expect a blowout. Las Vegas knows what they are doing, folks.

For instance, speaking to the title of this post. I've seen a lot of very good tackling in the playoffs from the Falcons. Stats that combine regular season can be pretty misleading about what to expect in the Super Bowl.

I hope the usual ****y suspects are right (the posters that find excuses when we lose, so it isn't actually the Patriots' fault). That is, I sure hope that we just eat them for lunch and I can avoid my usual SB 4th quarter heart attacks. I doubt it. Their offense is that good. Their offense will keep them in the game, and their defense is peaking at the right moment to make us work to keep up with their offense. Will certainly be an amazing battle between best offense and best defense.

Luckily they tend to play zone, which Brady eats for lunch, so we have that going for us in a big way. Experience goes a long way too. I still give it to us, but not easy breezy walk in the park. I see it a 3-4 point fight to the finish, with lots of nails bitten to the quick.

If I'm right, the fourierSeries of the board will be gone, or making excuses about how they were actually right (they never admit they are wrong). I'll be happy to come back and eat crow. Just a game, after all.

Packers were severely hampered, Montgomery re-injured himself at the beginning so they did not use him in a passing game at all, Adams and Allison were limited to short routes. Nelson played good for a while, then two weeks without practice finally caught up with him. Rodgers tried to beat them with Cobb and Cook and it just did not work.
Not that the Falcon D did not play well, it did, it is just the matter of the opponent not being able to keep up with them due to serious lack of personnel.

1. A friend of mine is a big Packer fan. He told me before the NFCCG that he didn't think the Pack had the manpower left on either side of the ball to compete with Atlanta. Said GB's RB, WR corps and DBacks were like a "mash unit."

2. Seattle w/o Thomas at S is a different defense too.

3. Someone posted season stats in another thread and I was surprised to see Atlanta, for all their points and offensive prowess, is a bottom of the league red zone team. Wouldn't that mean they're relying on a lot of big plays for their scoring. NE has a great red zone D. So I'm thinking if The Pats D can limit their big scoring plays the Falcons are gonna be stuck bringing field goals to a touchdown contest. Advantage Brady.

I still don't see them as tackling well. Heck Hester on his returns was full of missed tackles. Just one example. I probably won't have time to go back through film tonight to make specific points as my flight leaves at 10am tomorrow and I have to fight through NOVA and Baltimore traffic to get to the airport. So I have to leave at 6am or so. And I will not be on the computer much while down in TX.

All valid points. The point Atlanta fans are trying to make is hidden in what you pointed out. Through week 8, our defense was so bad none of those things mattered. They were just as wounded when we played them in week 8. They had no RBs at all. The pulled Kniles Davis off the street to play HB in that game. Montgomery was out due to a sickle cell thing. On top of that, they were still in their artic winter offensively for a couple of weeks beyond that game. We gave up a 30 burger to "bad Rodgers" while he was toting an empty quiver.

For all those reasons, I do think the NFCCG was a valid evaluation of our defensive progress. They had totally struck out against that team earlier in the year when they were losing. I understand why that is not impressive to outsider. It still gives us confidence that if they just have to make a play, the could plausibly find some way to pull that off.

If it is important to you to prove the Falcons miss tackles, my guess is you could find a few in the divisional round game against Seattle on that first eight minute drive by the 'hawks.

How do you explain the 31St rated 4th quarter defense in the NFL?

I am getting really sick and tired of reading about a defense that plays well some of the time. The Patriots play 60 minutes in all three phases of the game.

Good luck with letting up against Tom Brady, Julian Edelman, Bill Belichick, Rob Ninkovich, Devin McCourty, Stephen Gostkowski, Matt Patricia, Dante Scarnecchia, and the people posting on this messageboard.

Been seeing a lot of Michael Floyd highlights in the practice videos...Please BB, activate this man Sunday...

I don't like the answer. Prevent defense. I hate prevent defense. It turns 3 score wins into "I hope Sanu can grab yet another onsides kick."

Its not important to me per se. I just don't see an improved tackling team. I see a team keeping high safeties to avoid the deep threat, similar to what we do here for the most part, to be generic.

I think I am focused more on the YAC of your defense and the YAC of our offense. We make people miss and your guys just miss a lot. I don't think that is a good combo for Atlanta.

The Falcons defense is all speed and no power. Hand the rock to Blount.

Yea Ive been thinking this game could play out similar to the Eagles SB win.. we could run the ball 40 times in this game potentially to shorten the game and reduce the number of drives Ryan has

Falcons have assembled a very Colt-esque defense predicated on smaller, faster players that can swarm to the ball.

The best counter to that, just like with Indy, is to ram it down their throat on the ground and wear those smaller bodies out... if Blount gets rolling in this game, Brady is going to annihilate them with the play action

So...this.

Tom Brady looks tired. Hope he can kick it in gear for the second half.

guys, i think maybe the falcons do in fact know how to tackle.
