Semi-OT: Thanks Miami for not drafting Matt Ryan

While watching Matty Ice destroy what's left of the Packers D, it reminded me that the Lolphins passed on him in 2008 to draft Jake Long. The Rams took Chris Long 2nd overall, leaving Matt Ryan to the Falcons at 3rd.

Imagine how different the division might look if Miami hadn't botched that decision.
 
I was going to say that Miami brought in Chad Pennington that offseason, so maybe it made sense to draft Long to protect him. Pennington didn't sign with Miami until August, though, so Miami had gone into the draft with no QB and drafted Jake Long in the first round and Chad Henne in the second. It would have made more sense to draft the QB in the first round and find offensive linemen in the second round and later. Like the OP said, good thing the Dolphins didn't do that.
 
There's no way Matt Ryan would have thrived in Miami.
