Red Sox Off Season Discussion

The Young B's should improve. Berta, Bradley,Boegarts, Benetenndi.

Ok, who is the 5th starter for the Sox? Yikes, what a staff!
While some teams are worried about who is their #2 starter...and #3 ...and #4........and #5..............:)

I have seen Tomasse worrying about the state of the Sox farm system. I need to look at the prospects again but other than 3rd base and possibly 1st & 2nd base (Hanley to DH) hard to see any room for young players on this roster, for the next few years.

I need to check and see if we have prospects for those positions. I know we just got the kid from Texas at 1st base but his stats don't look real great offensively.

I despise Ton-ass with every fiber of my being, but he and others concerned about the state of the farm system are correct. There is literally nobody remotely close to helping in 2017 or even 2018, at any position.
LH 3B/1B Rafael Devers is by far the best position prospect not already on the 40-man roster, but he's barely 20 years old and hasn't taken even one AA at-bat yet.

Devers was hands off in the Sale trade ... the Sox are high on him replacing Panda.

He's not replacing the fat panda - or anybody else - next season, or in 2018 either.

So we lost Zeigler ... dude got like $16 million for 2 years ... whoa!!!
Lost Tazawa also ... I liked him but I think he's almost toast.

It appeared that Dumbrowski made no effort at all to re-sign Ziegler; perhaps he thought him more valuable as a comp pick from another team than as a player for his own team.

Pure salary dump to avoid luxury taxes; Phillies are paying ALL of his $13.5M salary, which I believe is the final year of his contract.

With the new luxury tax rules teams don't want to go over the salary limit. teams lose draft picks and other significant penalties.

Yeah, he was a big, big disappoinment last season; and the whole issue with tipping his pitches should've been resolved before he ever threw even one pitch in the big leagues.

And what's the shame about Soft Eddie is, the Dead Sux traded Andrew Miller for him.

Don't be so pessimistic about Eddie. The book isn't nearly written on him.

And we absolutely should have traded Miller for a good young starting pitching prospect like Eduardo Rodriguez. Even if it fails, that's still a move you try to make 10 times out of 10, because you're leveraging a very short term high value contract for a longer term asset at high higher potential value.

I'll tell you what, if Belichick did baseball, it's the sort of move he'd make. You don't get hung up on the bird in the hand when you're trying to build a perennial winner. You do what you need to do to maximize your present and future value. Miller for E-Rod did that.

Until our franchise gets a lot better at developing its own starting pitching prospects, trades like Miller for E-Rod are just sensible. Even a great reliever is worth giving up for a good lefty power arm with as good a chance as E-Rod had to crack the rotation and stick. If he blows it he blows it, it was still the right move.

am i the only one who could care less about the flopsox? i should be looking forward to the new season but I'm not. I can't stand to listen to john Farrell David price Hanley Ramirez panda john henry and the rest of ownership speak. I can't stand the dbags that cover the team either. the way the team is covered like the team is gods gift to baseball is nauseating. they are my fav baseball team but I'm not happy about it. ok I'm done venting.

erod is another redsox headcase in a long line of head cases. he's mentally and physically fragile and soft. they should have resigned miller.

Interesting point about the current likeability of the current team. Outside of Pedroia, who is a polarising figure to put it mildly there's little to root for. but hatred of the yankees will turn us all around in April

and now Pomeranz has a sore arm. The same guy that we traded for and then found out the Padres hid medical history of arm troubles from us. MLB then gives us an out so we are able to nix the trade and our wonderful ownership/GM group say "Nah, we are good...we will keep the damaged goods". The guy sucks as a pitcher and HE HAS ARM PROBLEMS.
