Great article on Bill Belichick

"Former NFL Head Coach: "Bill likes creating the image of an outlaw, the tough guy. I think he really relishes it. But who is he really? He was kind of a geeky kid. Not that athletic. A failed football player." - Hilarious for a person not putting his name out there calling out BB that he is creating an image of a tough guy.

A painful moment to revisit, but what a beautiful statement from Evans:

Heath Evans: "I never had greater admiration for a man besides my father than I had for Bill after the Super Bowl XLII loss. To the 53 men in that locker room and the coaching staff, he delivered a heartfelt apology. He felt like he had really let us down. Despite 18-1 being the most bitter pill I think you can swallow in sports, when I walked out of that Super Bowl locker room that night I still left with kind of a shining moment in my mind about Bill Belichick, how a man that everybody swears is so arrogant and so self-centered is really the exact opposite."

That quote was probably from a former player who was a failure as a coach......
I could make a few guesses.................
Herm Edwards??? coached the Jets 01-05 and lost to the Pats repeatedly. While he made the playoffs a few years, his overall record is 54-74.....

Good article.

Phil Savage: "To be great on the field, you have to be emotional. To be great upstairs in the front office, you have to be robotic. The way he can separate in his mind the deep, personal relationships he has to have with his players downstairs in the locker room, on the field and in games, versus the business reality of looking at the same exact players from a strictly financial standpoint, as commodities, when he switches hats upstairs in the front office -- that's not just incredibly hard, that's almost impossible."

Aqib Talib: "Once, in practice, Brady threw a seam ball that was intercepted, and Bill, man, he chewed Tom out, saying, 'You got 130 career interceptions,' or whatever it was, 'and half of them are on this route. You keep doing the same s--- over and over and this is what happens.' Right then you know two things about the Patriots and Bill Belichick: Everybody is treated the same, and you better get your s--- together."

Doesnt sound like Herm Edwards. He is generally very deferential towards BB.

They were on the same team for three seasons. 96 with the Pats and 98 & 99 with the Jets.

Yeah but Curtis specifically says in practice in his rookie year that Bill had him going over the pile with the defense knowing it was coming.

Honestly I'm suspicious that the quote was about Bill Parcells and the ESPN guy borked it. In 1996 when Belichick came on he was Assistant HC/DBs coach so I'm not sure he would have even been doing something like that in the first place.

"After my daughter was diagnosed at 6 with Type 1 diabetes, a week later on my desk there was a little teddy bear, with a Belichick hoodie on it. And he had written a little note: 'I know this doesn't cure it, but just something for Taylor to know we are thinking about her and praying for her.' She knew it was from Coach. She named her bear Hoodie."

What a bastardo!

great article,

I don’t want to have to send your mother another note that says, ‘Dear Mrs. Cassel, we regret to inform you that your son got killed being a dumbass.'”

I'd say St. "Holier than Thou" Dungy.
I am guessing brad childress, wade phillips or Marty Schottenheimer.

It's a pretty good piece. Those who are curious to learn more about Belichick in time will come to realize that his public persona (as defined and established the nitwits in the media) is not all that representative of the man himself. Bill doesn't suffer fools gladly; too bad for him that a highly visible part of his job involves interacting with world-class fools and know-it-alls on a regular basis.

True to form, BSPN just couldn't resist the temptation of reverting to its all too familiar tactic of allowing anonymous sources make unsubstantiated claims in support of what almost always consists of the most scurrilous aspects of the story. Odds are pretty good that the nameless "Former NFL Coach" is a gutless wonder who had his lunch money stolen by BB on a regular basis and who thinks that a 40 point ass-kicking is the result of being served the wrong flavor of Gatorade at the wrong temperature. Might this be the reason that this clown is unemployed now?

I have yet to hear a single excuse from the head coach of the Patriots dating back to 2000 now. It's beyond tiresome that the faceless whiners and losers continue to readily find a platform to propagate their nonsense, but in the end, that's what BSPN traffics in. Screw them.
I'd bet the farm that "former HC" is that spineless, jealous, cheating, coward Don Shula. ****y (kitty) MFer. He couldn't shine BB'S shoes. I don't wish ill feelings towards too many, but I will be smiling the day that crusty POS kicks the bucket.

BB's a top gun fan:

First time in a very long time that I've clicked on HSPN, but it was worth it. Thanks.

I think that the take on the "Gates" is about as favorable as we will see for another four or five years...or until he wins his next Lombardi...

Yea. C-Mart's rookie year was 95 and BB was still with the Brownies.

He misremembered. No biggie.

I'm guessing Ratgini.

I'm wondering Who's the "Former NFL Head Coach"? Pretty cowardly to talk anonymously without putting your name on it. Dude has no idea how inaccurate of his comments are....just parroting how the stories were framed in the media. Weak!
