Seriously, or is this an April Fool's joke? Fitzpatrick is still unsigned, right?

lol Fitz might end up with a lot less money than he wanted. Who even needs QB still?

Can't the Omissioner just give them some more?

Shouldn't be a problem.
Didn't he do something like that before? I couldn't find an article about it was trying to find it a while back.

In the uncapped year, the Jets and Broncos finagled a provision into the new CBA where players cut at a certain time period (just before the season ended I think) didn't count against the next years cap. If I recall, it netted the Jets about $11,000,000 in free cap space. This is after the NFL porked the Cowboys and Redskins for dumping cap money during the uncapped year.

Was that time period only for 2011 or still count today?

So just enough to buy GeNONO! a lifetime supply of OraJel?
lol had to bring this back up.

"I've shown flashes of being a Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback," he said. "But what we're looking for here is consistency. The best teams have consistent quarterback play and I realize that and that's truly what I want to show to the fans and everyone outside the building."

Geno Smith says he's shown 'Pro Bowl caliber' flashes

Pretty much the exact opposite of what he is. Consistently bad.

It was only for one year. Slimey bastards.
Cheating slimy cheats. Least the Doncos were sort of playing inside the cap this time. Jerry and Snyder should have had a fit about that.

I bet they did. I also bet Kraft told them to just take it for the good of the 32. Winning isn't the only reason why some of the owners hate Kraft.

Needs on offense:

2 RB
1-2 OL (maybe even 3)
OWR
"S"WR insurance, if Amendola's going to get the axe

I think the amount of "needs" you list is ridiculous but lets jus talk about the RB. The Patriots keep lets say 4-5 RBs on the 53-man roster
1. Lewis
2. Blount/TBD
3. Bolden
4. White
5. Develin/Iosefa/Harbor
Where is the room for your 2 RBs? There is room for 1. In order for 2 are you cutting White? (Which I would be ok with if had another option behind Lewis) Are you not carrying a FB? What's the plan?

Evidently it's true.

Spotrac has their adjusted cap at $157,528,734 and their Top 51 at $156,835,184 for a difference of $693,550.

New York Jets 2016 Salary Cap

That $17M cap hit on Revis has to hurt right now.

$17m cap hit for a guy who is starting to pick up injuries. Think he left 3 or 4 games due to injury last season. So injuries are starting to become a thing.

They also put themselves in a dilemma because they franchised Wilkerson because they want to get a 1st round pick in this draft for him. Which they likely won't get so there is a $16m hit for a guy they don't really want.

The only one of these guys I'd write in now is Lewis, and he isn't healthy yet. Blount is not on the team (and is a poor short yardage guy besides), Develin, Iosefa, Harbor are not RBs (FB/HB), White cannot run, and Bolden is a ST guy who can sub at RB. I look for them to draft at least one and probably sign another vet closer to the season.

So no love for Donald Brown?

Yeah he was not on the list but should be added. You never know, but I view Brown as a receiving RB competing with White and Lewis. I would still think they add at least two RBs capable of 15 carries per game.

The "at least 2" is the comment that bugs me. There is limited roster space. Lewis and Bolden are pretty much locks (Belichick loves his STs and Bolden is a ST stud and a serviceable backup) most around here like White (I don't) and one of Develin/Iosefa/Harbor is sticking around. We missed Develin in short yardage last year (FB, RB same thing in roster breakdown) That is 4 spots already dedicated to RB. No room for your at least 2. Especially considering the depth at our other skill positions

For RB additions. I'd like to see Blount, Reggie Bush (if healthy) and a couple 3-down backs via the draft.

Blount, while nothing special, is serviceable, especially if the OL gets its act together. The Pats have shown interest in Bush previously and he's good competition for Brown and good insurance in case Lewis' recovery takes longer than expected. Get a couple youngsters in here to battle it out in hopes that 1, or both, make Blount expendable.
