Our first pick is at 60. This is a relatively poor draft. It seems that our best bet is to trade for players (into next year), or to draft developmental players.

One position where folks see great value is at DT.

I suppose a RB might contribute this year.

  1. Wide receiver
  2. Running Back
  3. Offensive tackle
  4. Defensive end (pass rusher)
  5. Cornerback
  6. Any other position besides QB (barring a Brady injury).

corner back and running back...... all are positions have strength of numbers behind the starters

DT, RB, CB, perhaps OT or OG, perhaps DE.

1. DT - big opportunity for a rookie to be part of a rotation with Brown, Branch and Easley
2. RB - Lewis recovering, White not much of a runner, Brown still new; a rookie can steal a starting role even if Blount returns
3. CB - Butler and Ryan are top 2 but a strong CB can grab the third CB role in a competition with Coleman & Roberts
4. OT/OG - Solder & Vollmer starters, rookie can take the swing tackle role from Cannon or Waddle (and allow team to dump Cannon); at OG, Jackson is recovering and Cooper is new, perhaps a rookie could beat them and Kline out for a starting spot, or at least provide solid depth
5. DE - Sheard and Nink are starting but Nink is getting a bit older, Long is new and coming off some down years, and Flowers/Johnson/Grissom have yet to produce at this level; a rookie could become the fourth or possibly even third guy, perhaps

RB or Special Teams.

All other positions are stocked with players. CB, S, DT, DE, TE, WR, OL. Guess there is an outside chance the 3rd LB is open, but how often is our 3rd LB even on field? Don't know exact percent I'm guessing maybe 20-30%

DT, OT/OG, DE.......The rest is gravy....RB can be had later in draft.....

Guard, RB, corner are the spots a decent rookie would be better than our starter (corner being nickel)
Everywhere else there is opportunity if injuries happen.

With some of our recent signings, I think our roster is definitely looking pretty solid. But I would say for a rookie, here are the positions that someone would be able to come in and help the most. I am not going to include special teams.

1-Running Back
2-Defensive Tackle
3- Cb(maybe can compete for the nickle slot)
4- Guard or Tackle (If we are going to go with a rotation on the OL again, maybe a rookie can come in and compete and at the least, push Cannon and Kline off this team :)

As an aside, I saw a report that Scar has been scouting at least one center.

Wow! Wonder if stork is having health problems.

Let's dial it back just a bit. I looked it up and he was working two OL from Mizzou, one of whom was a C.

I'm not so sure this is a poor draft I think it's just not as top heavy as we are used to. I think there is good talent where the Patriots have their cluster of picks in the second half of the top 100, and they fit their needs pretty well. They can address RB and DL as well as WR with their second and third round picks, LB and OT are less certain.

RB is obvious.

CB seems pretty obvious too. McCourty made the Pro Bowl at CB as a rookie. Butler did so as a sophomore. There's plenty of precedent for leapfrogging any CB now on the roster except Butler.

Any other position seems like a longshot and/or wait-for-injuries.

Good stuff, Ross.

If we're just exchanging ideas, I'd probably swap out your last position of DE and replace it with LB, but that's just me. I'm still a bit hesitant to fully drink the Kool Aid in regards to Jamie Collins definitely being extended. My concerns are mainly due to three factors: 1) The rising cost of players at the position and the fact that he'll likely be demanding a very large pact, and 2) The fact that Butler is also in the mix as well, and finally 3) The fact that Hightower is the rather clear cut priority and I believe he'll stay.

The fact that we can squat on Butler for another year may help the case to keep Collins, but it will be up to Belichick to determine how risky waiting may be in terms of driving his price up with another successful year. Of course all of this may be irrelevant since as we know, Belichick is unlikely to pay over what he deems as market value anyway. I hate to sound too pessimistic, but I'm truly crossing my fingers as it pertains to a Collins extension. There's a good possibility that he'll want to test the waters come spring, so I'm hoping they can lock him up with a fair deal before that (obviously). If he hits FA, he's probably long gone in my opinion.

Evan Boehm of Missouri. Scar ran his pro day but there was another OL there too in Connor McGovern who plays both OG and OT. I suspect the interest was more about McGovern but if you want to run OL drills for one, you have to run them for the other too.

Major opportunity for a rookie to contribute is definitely at RB.

I think is our major need right now as well and I would even advocate to trade up and get the best RB in our board if he's still in our range maybe middle of the 2nd round but giving a little more thought on the draft, even thought the FA has been good so far, there is still some important points. OT and CB.

We need to draft Logan Ryan's replacement, he's been up and down during these 3 years but I think if we could use only one word to describe I would choose solid, and he's in position to have his better year in 2016. Considering the CB market, I don't doubt some team will overpay for him in the next FA and I think he is a low priority in the list of our future free agents.

Also, I'm not against keep loading on DT. Before FA I thought it was pretty important to keep Hicks after all if he left like he did, it would change the picture and DT would become kind of a need again, but if this is a good draft for DT's, keep loading, I don't miss those days where they couldn't stop the run to save their lives.
