OT: NFL wanted Sam drafted, made deal w Rams, Fisher...

The truth doesn't have to be black or white here. E.g.
  • A concerned NFL makes calls to see if Sam is going to be drafted.
  • The Rams and perhaps some other teams say "He's on our board, but we're worried about distracting publicity."
  • The NFL says "How can we help you minimize that?"
  • The Rams say "For one thing, keep us off Hard Knocks."
  • The NFL says "No problem; we can promise you that if you draft him, you won't be on Hard Knocks."

Not EVERYTHING that involves Fisher, the NFL or both is evil and corrupt.

To be clear, what you proposed is though, right?

Sorry to nit pick, but with the ordeal of the Deflategate witch hunt that we are having to endure we need to be correct with our language.

Air does not leave a football when temperature decreases, the pressure decreases as the temperature decreases, and increases as the temperature increases.

You are absolutely correct... To add more science to the explanation, basically when air is colder, the molecules vibrate slower and bunch closer together because of it.... When air is heated, the molecules become more active and bounce all over the place, which makes the space between them larger (steam is a good example of this) . This is also why cars use cold air intakes, super chargers and drag racers go faster at sea level than at elevation... Because the higher concentration of oxygen (thick air as opposed to thin air) makes the fuel burn better. NOS is a high concentration of air, to help cars engines work more efficiently and go faster.... This is also why footballs and baseballs fly farther and higher in places like Denver (i.e. the ball carrying more, which causes our woes at that field..... And why the Colorado Rockies usually lead the league in home runs.).

By the way, I'm not a scientist..... I learned all this in jr. High! There's no reason the NFL brass and their "scientists" shouldn't be as familiar with this as I am.

Along these lines, let me see if I can give a super-simplified hand-waving explanation of why Pressure decreases with Temperature (I'm doing this off the top of my head and greatly simplifying, so you science and engineering types like PWP be gentle :D). As Temperature rises, as you say the molecules become more active and zoom around with a greater average velocity, and thus a greater average momentum (mass x velocity) per molecule. When they collide against the internal surface of the football, the resulting change of momentum per molecule applies an impulse (Force x time) against the surface. Pressure = Force / Area, so as the Temperature (in K) decreases the Pressure (absolute) decreases also (linearly) by the same factor (because the molecules zoom around slower). Gauge Pressure is simply the amount of absolute Pressure above atmospheric pressure. So, as the Temperature decreases, so does the Gauge Pressure (the psi of your tires or the football), which everyone (except the NFL ) who has had their tires deflate in winter knows.

....In case anybody isn't already asleep: if you double the molecules, twice as many of them bang against the internal surface per second, so the Pressure increases linearly with number of molecules, n (as measured in moles), also. The number of molecules banging into a unit surface, and thus the Pressure, varies inversely with Volume. So: P is linearly proportional to n and T, inversely proportional to V. The proportionality constant is the Ideal Gas Constant R.

So: P=nRT/V, or PV=nRT. Ideal Gas Law! (even if my arms hurt from all of the hand waving) :D

Why is it the NFL's business to influence who teams draft? Of course, the NFL is into character assassination, stealing picks, kangaroo courts etc., but still.

The other thing is who DIDN'T get drafted that would have had Sam not been a forced pick?

Similar reasons to why it's the NFL's business to influence who teams hire as coaches.

It would be wrong if teams refused to workout or interview Sam. So, the NFL says teams have to interview minorities. Arguable, but it doesn't say teams have to hire them.

Making deals to coerce teams into drafting someone, or participating in a distracting TV show for that matter, would be wrong in a league that was about ensuring honest competition. Of course, the NFL is not.

If the NFL continues on its present course, seasons will be scripted and teams will be comprised of actor/athletes who merely run through the necessary plays to arrive at the predetermined outcome for each game leading up to the storyline determined for the Super Bowl winner. Like pro wrestling.

Why not give Daniel Snyder a super bowl? As long as he agrees to play along, one of goodell's hand picked judges or Congressmen will sue the skins mid season, forcing them to rename themselves, causing a season long controversy.

Meanwhile, the skins will pass and run the ball while the other 31 teams play the Washington Generals. Nobody really blocks or tackles hard, they just go through the motions to the super Bowl where they talk about Native Americans and find some xenophobic fans to hurl ethnic slurs about being forced to change their name.

The "fans" can wear nascar hats and flag pins and the Indians wear John Wayne era headresses and war paint and be played by Italians.

Remember when I blasted the SF/Ravens Super Game, calling it a blatant fix by Goodell/NFL offices? I was roundly criticized and subjected to the usual "Impossible! takes too many people to pull it off..blah blah blah"...now, today, the position I took seems extremely plausible if not downright 100% spot on.

Ray Lewis Retirement Super Bowl, Peyton Manning Adoration Super Bowl...big time PR spectacles pimped beyond belief by ESPN/NFLN and the NFL Offices propaganda machine. In between there was another goddamned appearance by these damned Patreee-otts, and accordingly a two year witch hunt built out of feathers and straw by Goodell the Indescribable, but the league is back on their "PARITY!" barnstorm now that Precious Peytie the sexual assault artist and proven illegal drug user has been deified by Goondell from Hell.

What's next...the Patriots and Tom Brady FORCED to play B.C. in a preseason exhibition game in Syria? I wouldn't put it past Goodell to pay for sabotage to the Pats jet and send it down over the ocean ,all lives lost. Why wouldn't this out of control megalomaniac try it? It's not like he hasn't got the money to burn.

Do you have any particular statute in mind? I'm not even seeing a tort, let alone a crime.
Evil and corrupt does not require illegality.

The reporters speculation about the league strong arming other teams not to draft Westbrook seems ridiculous. It is the type of baseless speculation that undermines the original story he confirmed with multiple sources.

The real story, the NFL and Rams, coached by NFL league office toadie Jeff Fisher, discussing drafting Sam and coming to agreements about Hard Knocks is not only not ridiculous, it is entirely believable - right down to the "coincidence" of NFL house media man Michael Silver coincidently being in the war room to cover it.

The hilarity of your comment is that the most ardent and vocal Ravens fans here are NOT scientists. They are usually the movers, carpenters, electricians, etc....
...and don't forget the unemployed, unemployable, gang members, thugs, politicians, and all the other fanimal scum who live in Bal'more.

Epic, my man, epic...

I was in the same minority as you at the time.... The story of brother vs brother was too delicious to not come true for the entity who had control over it. Once the nfccg ended with the 49ers as winners, I looked at my wife and said "we are going to lose this game".... She still tells friends about that to this day.
It also was my suspicion that the 2006 Super Bowl was set up.... First African-American coach to win a Super Bowl was the talk of the sports world leading up to the playoffs..... Makes that storyline a guarantee if both coaches were black in that game.... Come to think of it, wasn't that the first Super Bowl that was ever coached by an African American at all? Not to mention 2!!!!!!

It's just too coincidental. Pats had a 21 point lead in that afccg, until fatigue and questionable officiating set in. At this point in time, it's not even ludicrous to say that I wouldn't have put it past the nfl to have planted that flu virus in the pats locker room in the days leading up to that game. If you say that's a crazy proposition..... Look at history. A corrupt government used that method to commit the unthinkable crime of killing off native Americans with blankets that were covered in small pox.

And if you think this is just the homer in me, I have to admit that it was also a good storyline for a team named the "Patriots" to win the Super Bowl right after 9/11.
Just saying it's possible we have unknowingly been on both sides of this

You would think that the NFL would have been more worried about Sam's boyfriend, the son and grandson of notorious mobsters...

Michael Sam's boyfriend has mobster grandpa, father

Image if a kid coming out of college was dating John Gotti's daughter? The NFL would have a cow. Once again the complete double standard for homosexuals, Barney Frank is a hero, Elliot Sptizer is a criminal.

Don't worry they have since broken up, I'm guessing because Sam didn't make an NFL team, he was no use to the "family".

Do I think the NFL had a deal with the Rams to draft Sam, yup. The NFL could resist the press the got for drafting Sam, and wanted no part of the negative press if he went undrafted.
