Good one J79. :D

I think the Jets have also made some good moves. If they can find a QB they could make some noise.

A QB and now some quick LBs or big safeties to cover your insane TEs. Ugh! Congrats on the pickup guys.

When the hell is BB gonna retire?!?

IDK what the Pats Cap situation is exactly but I am curious to see if they plan to do something with Collins or Butler before the season to use some of that left over cap space.

The Pats still have a busy off season in front of them as they still have to get their own house is order a bit more.

I think

Edelman - pay him 1 million more this year cause he earned it
Gronk - same as above
Butler - Long term deal and try to get it cheaper by doing it now.
Hightower - same as above
Collins - same as above
Sheard - same as above
Ryan - an underrated FA who they should look to extend some time this year if he play keeps up.
Cannon - cut
Amendola - restructure/cut

I think they can do all these things and should and most will. Still plenty of fireworks to be had

I think you are missing a couple of things.

The Bears were not paying him $5m. None of it was guaranteed. If he gets hurt he gets zip. If he gets cut he gets zip. With the Black Friday of free agency over, teams are preparing for the draft and can wait till after the draft to sign players. Teams can also wait to cut players after the draft or in TC which is when the players have sucky leverage.

If Bennett was smart, he'd redo his deal to make it a 1yr 2m+ guaranteed contract. Pats can spread it out and he gets piece of mind. Maybe they sweeten it by getting him to 3 or 4m w/ performance incentives.
No way he would redo his deal for $3m less. It doesn't matter if the $5m isn't guaranteed, he could just say "cut me then" and know someone would pick him up for more than $2m per year.

I dont see anyway Bennett would take a paycut. If you look at the deals handed out to Allen and Fleener, you could argue that Bennett would prefer to be cut.

It would be nice if he did, but no way do I expect him to. He should realize this is a prime opportunity for him to put up big numbers and cash out in FA next year for ridiculous $

1. Trade for Michael Bennett.

2. Trade for Kyle Long.

3. Draft Glenn Gronkowski.

4. Trade for Jason McCourty

5. Acquire Band of Brothers trademark.

I get that themed-GM'ing isnt the best way to run an NFL franchise.. but would 1-4 really be all that bad? :)

Till he croaks? Could be a long while. The man was born to coach.

Players always take guaranteed deals over game checks. Always.

He goes on IR in camp hes filing an injury settlement for pennies on the dollar.

Now just sign Washington and Foster to complete the offense.

I am absolutely gobsmacked.

Went to bed about an hour ago.. ten minutes ago my phone goes ballistic waking the other half, elbow in the ribs, got my phone to see the internet exploded.

WOW what a great signing and worth every single dollar he currently makes, ***laughs at all the other free agents and there dollars***

Bennett was my number one hope this off season. My TE in both my dynasty leagues. So happy right now.

It's so strange the way things have turned out. First Belichick leaves the Jets. Then **** Rehbein convinces him to take Tom Brady. And here we are.

I think Belichick will follow Brady out the door.

Not every player needs to take a paycut to play for the Patriots. If Bennett plays on his current deal, I'm fine with that. Good players should be paid well. Bennett is one of the better TEs in the NFL.

Patriots now have ** 5 ** 6th round picks!

Hopefully they have trade 2 or 3 of them for a higher round pick in 2016 or 2017...

As far as the Scott Chandler train went, I was in the locomotive toooooting the horn. So, I feel the responsibility to shut up right now.

But, ya, this is good. :D
