The 2016 NFL Draft Rumour Thread

Also, don't overvalue college production.. it is essentially meaningless. What you are looking for are measurables and traits.

I couldn't agree less.

I agree. I think an excellent interior guy is overall more disruptive than an excellent outside pass rusher.

Speaking in generalities, maybe. But if you get a chance to draft a rare specimen like Von Miller or Julius Peppers, you really need to do it.

If you have a chance without investing too much.. sure.

That being said, Von Miller is ridiculously overvalued right now. He played a good season and had 2 great games in a row that happened to be in the postseason and suddenly everyone goes crazy about him and conveniently forgets how he disappeared in all previous postseasons. This hype smells like Flacco in 2013 and Chancellor in 2014.

I couldn't agree less.

College production is totally meaningless when used as a predictor. It's not because someone has had success in college that he will be a good nfl player but because he has physical and mental traits that put him into position to be successful in college which also translate well into the NFL. Just look at the list of Heismann winners vs. their productivity as a pro.

Not looking good for Jaylon Smith.

Been looking at tape for Charone Peake. Not sure why most reports have him as a 6th rounder? He's had injury and consistency issues, but he's big, fast, strong, soft hands, good blocker, smart, efficient route runner and catches everything thrown his way. I think he's suffered a bit from being behind Sammy Watkins and DeAndre Hopkins. I know I'm no Manx/OTG/Midwest when it comes to evaluating talent but I likes what I likes. If he's still there at 6th round I'd definitely pick him.

Thats unfortunate.

I was paying more attention to him last month or so, and he reminds me of a more polished Jamie Collins coming out of college.

I really like Smith. I hope he makes a comeback. He was one of the few blue chip prospects in this draft

I'll take a WR, for example, who has a pair of 1000 yard seasons in the SEC, than a guy who is 6'3" and can run a 4.45 in the combine. I'll take the hypothetical lineman from Duke who doesn't give up a quarterback pressure against that schedule over the one who did, but can broad jump 9 feet and vertical jump 3.

I'm not sure why he doesn't have bigger hype. Clemson WRs have transitioned well to the pros lately, and he has good testing numbers. 6'2 #210 with a 4.45 40, 36 vertical, 6.9 3-cone. Not a great SS, but watching his routes on the field, he appears to have more than adequate change of direction. Saw some good catches, and he seemed to be used on short, intermediate, and deep throws. Most places project him to be a 5th rounder. I'd be okay with a pick as high as our 3rd rounder, honestly. Good potential for an outside receiver.

So in other words.. Jarvis Jones over Jamie Collins.

Very good point you make, but you could also easily say Rob Ninkovich over Vernon Gholston.

Even Gary Guyton had more sacks as a rookie than Vernon Gholston did in his entire career.

Examples can be made in both directions. What it means is that you can't just look at a box score and you can't just go by combine results. You have to watch the tape and see how that player got to those numbers and if you see traits that translate to the NFL. It is not a perfect science but looking at things from just one point of view rather than multiple ones is going to end in failure more often than not.

I wonder if he ends up going Undrafted like Burfict.

Ole Miss defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche needed to nail his team interviews at the combine to quiet doubts about his off-field past. One team official I spoke to this week, who was in the room for Nkemdiche's interview, called it "the worst I've ever seen."

Also:

— It's a big offseason for the Indianapolis Colts, and I heard from a team source that they like Baylor nose tackle Andrew Billings a lot in Round 1.

Don't rule out a quarterback in this draft for the Buffalo Bills. While Tyrod Taylor made it to the Pro Bowl, some scouts inside the organization believe he's limited as a long-term starter.

The top five in the draft could be interesting this year, particularly if the Browns choose not to go QB.

Edit. Apparently this is so the Eagles can trade up for Zeke.

No idea for sure where the best go first but WRs are too often flashy but without big impact. I would hate to use a high pick on once unless i felt he was a true game changer. I don't think anyone who will be in our range will be able to be a game changer.

Generally impact wise you get more bang for the talent buck going almost anything else.
