Semi-OT: Heath Evans today out-benches every FB at the Combine

Looked like ole Heath could do the 3 cone in a half n hour.

He was explaining how it works, not actually doing it. Given that he ran the 40 in 4.8, I think he could probably do the 3-cone in well under a half-hour. Under a minute, even. ;)

Heath's form is schitt....elbows supposed to be in...elbows out like that recruits ur posterior & anterior delts & rotators a bit...elbows out makes it "easier" & leads to ****ed up shoulders & ac joints...at any rate...I'm 20-30 lbs overweight, will be 42 in a month and can still fire up 23 reps...in proper form...:D:D:D

Heath is 37

Regardless benching 225 for that many reps is very impressive.

I think tying a tie is a fashion thing now.

Really? I could have sworn he looks like he's in his 40s.

His tie just too short. Ties always should reach to the top of the belt area.

Yea i know I was 1/2 kidding. he ran a 7 something at the combine in 2001. Looks to still be in great shape. I bet he could do it still in the 8s or so

Says on PFR he is 37.

Agreed on the tie length.

The best athletes usually aren't the ones who rep out the most on 225. It's not a good indicator of athletic talent.

Sign the beast :D
That's how I ripped my rotator cuff when I was a young lad.

And I'm certain Evans knows more than you about proper form

Strong dude.

Double Windsor is the only way to wear a tie. Preferably with a pocket square. I don't trust men with ****ty tie knots.

Scapular retraction is important for the bench. Engage the lats and press yourself into the bench. Done properly you can recruit all the muscles up top and move some legit weight. That said tossing up two sets of biscuits like it was 45 pounds is pretty damn impressive.

Double Windsor knots..........scapular retraction???

I'm proud of you GymRat, you've come a long way!

The only issue is basing trust on the method of knotting ones tie. Can you say OCDC?

I don't trust type-A people myself. And man do I like to mess with them

I was making a silly.

Did mine benching too...luckily it was only a bruise. Was doing 225 & maybe 3d rep - POP POP - in my shoulder. After wffects of years of bad form & heavy weight...MRI showed "bruised" teres minor or infraspinatous - can't remember which....I was in a ton of pain for a month...if I had that much pain from a "bruise" I can't fathom a full on tear...must be ****ing brutal....& I hear recovery is really rough...

Do u even lift bro:D
Anyone who lifts will tell u that elbows should be close to your body & def not flared out at 90° like Evans (less than 45° is optimal)..watch the video again...u can tell he's putting a TON of uneccessary stress on his right shoulder because his elbow is swinging BACK BEHIND his shoulder plane...
Its EASIER with ur elbows out like Evans - it looks cool firing up 30 reps & idiots like Jeff Fisher will be impressed...

I've lifted since high school... So that's about 42 years of strength training.

But the thread isn't about you and I. What baffles me is someone that watches a former successful NFL player lift and then criticizes them as if they know more. All NFL players get the best of the best training and I am certain Evans had forgotten more than you know about proper form. So his form wasn't perfect for that demo, but who cares?

Are you one of those people that give random advice to people at your gym if their form is wrong? I hope not.

Now if you want to criticize people that take steroids due to deep insecurities or people that have pictures of themselves flexing as their avatar, I'm with ya!

That's the long known problem with the draft. The 40 doesn't necessarily translate to football speed, and the bench doesn't show football strength (or proper form).

The only thing that shows up on the combine results are numbers. I would use the "easier" way too if my career and millions of dollars depended on it.

(Of course, Heath isn't trying to prove himself to scouts, but he is getting into a pissing contest with all the youngins.... and he showed them up. Good for him.)
