How long does it take you to get past a big loss

After 2007 it just isn't the same. The growing disillusionment with the sport has assisted in this.

I was over it by the next morning.

It's also hard for me to view this as a wasted opportunity or a missed chance at a Superbowl because I strongly feel its an NFC year and we just didn't have the goods on the O-line to compete. It's not the same wasted opportunity as 2006 or even 2011 (we were playing quite well in the second half and I was confident we would win).

("Big Games" only, defined as Playoff games or pivotal regular season games.)

When it's a game I feel they should have won and they were trying to win (SB XLII, this year's Regular Season game against Denver, the "Touchback/Touchdown" game in Denver years ago), a long time...there are those who would say I have never gotten over XLII and the older Denver game.

When it's a game in which they played well and I think they could have won and they were trying to win, but lost to a team that made plays when they didn't (SB XLVI, "Fourth and Two" and several other important games), a good period of time, but not more than a couple of weeks.

When it's a game I think they could have won but would have been fortunate to win despite the poor play of the team in one or more of the three phases of the game (like Sunday's game with only the D playing up to its capabilities), not all that long...a couple of days.

When it's a game where they just sucked from the beginning (Ravens Playoff game a few years back), no time at all.

It depends. For the most part I put it past me quickly (week or so) but that's my defense mechanism. How I am able to do that is I focus on all the positives and think about the team and how hard they worked to be as successful as they were this past year (or other years). I'm already looking forward to next year's version. "I'm on to 2016!"

It really depends on how we lose. 2007, I don't think it can get much worse than that (losing to ultimately a circus catch by a no name receiver ona desperation throw). I can argue I'm still not over that loss fully, maybe I won't ever be. (F@(& You Tyree)

Sunday, our oline got completely dominated from the jump. The 'weird' series of events leading up to the play offs (Eagles game, Jets OT, Miami Gameplan) all soften the blow. Of course ultimately losing in our house of horrors also eases the pain, just because Ive accepted that we just dont play well there.

I think Im still more stuck on the Miami gameplan with HFA on the line more so than the Denver loss. Im not one of these "Belichick Blew it!" guys. The guy is just so MONEY usually in decision making that I can excuse a hiccup here and there.

Yep. 2007 was crippling and heart breaking. I skipped classes the next day because I truly felt like I would snap someone's neck, hearing them talk about the game and how the Pats choked.

Every time afterward was pretty easy to deal with. 2011 loss hurt bad though because it was the Super Bowl, we should have won, and it was in the immideate aftermath of an ugly breakup. The alcohol helped a bit that night.

I'm not quite over it yet because we were so close :mad:and we were supposed to win this game. o_O

Hmmmm. Well, it sucks. I can intellectually rationalize it and say the Pats would have lost to the Panthers, but the truth is if the Pats pull it out I'm totally onboard with their Super Bowl chances. Also, as a Brady/Pats guy, I do hate the that Peyton has the 3-1 championship game advantage, even though I don't hate him and that's really not such an important stat.

So I got over the really sharp misery pretty quick, but won't feel into it again until free agency starts. Rooting for the NFC won't be the same either as past years where I rooted for the Saints, say, and really wanted them to win. Not a Cam Newton fan.

I will say this...when Brady and Belichick are gone, I'm reasonably certain I won't care as much ever again.

I will never forget walking into work the morning of February 4th, 2008. It was appropriately rainy and dreary down here that day. I wore my Patriots jacket like I always do and I was prepared for the onslaught.

Surprisingly no one really bothered me, maybe they took pity, I don't know.

Except for that one guy. You know the one, the office douchebag. In this case he was some moron originally from Long Island who supposedly was a big Jets fan up until that point. Of course he walks over to my desk that morning and he's wearing Giants gear. I was like I thought you were a Jets fan? And he says umm oh no, I've always been a Giants fan. So I politely told him to get the f away from my desk.

There's always one.

Never really got over the giants loss from 07/08. Normally takes me a couple of days though.

I was over the broncos loss around January 4th after the pats decided to mail it in for the Miami game.

I know i know i don't play in the games ect. But after a big loss with so many chances. I just feel empty because the Pats are my team..almost my life in some ways. I don't want to turn this into a sob story but after my dad passed a week after last years SB win...this team just means so much more to me now and this season meant a lot as weird as it sounds. So it will take me a while to get back to form....

What about you guys

How long it takes me to recover depends on the loss. It can be anywhere from minutes (like it was this time) or as much as a month (as it was in 2007) or anywhere in between.

I was over this one quickly. Losing will happen a lot more often than winning the Super Bowl so no point getting too wound up about it. But then again... nothing will ever compare to 2006 and 2007.

I was over this one by Monday afternoon. I agree with everyone on this board, the closer you get the more it hurts, especially with the age of Brady. You just don't know how many times you can get this far. I do feel much better this year because of the SB49 victory. It was great to have that winning feeling again. The only thing that bothers me is losing to the Broncos, such classless fans, and now Manning finally has something over Brady (3-1 in AFC championship).

Manning doesn't have that much over Brady. It's not even close

--9 one and done in the playoffs
and favored for most of those games. NO other QB has 4 one and dones. 6 of those losses were home games for Manning and 5 were when his team was the 1 or 2 seed.

4 Superbowls for Brady
1 for Manning
-Seattle 43 Denver 8 in his last super-bowl. Brady was the MVP and threw 4 td passes against the same defense the next year

Most playoff wins ever Brady
Most playoff losses Manning

11-6 head to head

Brady would say that the answer is "never". Do you think that Brady is over the Super Bowl loss after the 2007 season.

Belichick would say that he is over it soon after the game ends. Belichick is on the off season and is focusing on the Senior Bowl and contract decisions that need to be made.

For our fanbase it shouldn't take long. We have been spoiled rotten. 6 super bowl appearances, 4 super bowl wins, 10 AFCCG appearances plus we have a fairly young team with the exception of Brady.

I think Brady is now 11-7 against Manning.

The Mannings own the Pats in the playoffs, unfortunately. That's really the only thing Peyton has on us.

I was over it shortly after it happened. As others have said, winning SB49 helps but I also don't care as much this year because of the past offseason (air pressure).

About ten minutes after the game. My gaming group was over the house and we sat down and had a blast.

The Patriots owe me nothing - meaningful football in january every year. It's amazing, and i'm thrilled to be witnessing it.

They'll be right back there next year, I expect. especially given Denver's coming transitions, I don't see anyone in the AFC overcoming them.

It usually takes me until draft day. Then to me it's the official start of the next season. As I get older (and as I have enjoyed the Pats' successes) I find the sting fades faster.

what loss?

when's the combine?
