I think that a portion of a faction Pats fans uneasiness stems from the fact that the game is on the road, in a hostile environment, where not too long ago the team lost in a fashion that could be coined a meltdown (be it due to ill-timed turnovers/in-game injuries/poor officiating).

The Patriots need to come out and play the best game of the year to ensure that no tomfoolery is able to manifest, which is often the case when playing as the visiting team going against the home team plus "home cooking".

I keep hearing people talking about Denver going dime heavy and even 7 DBs and they act like Belichick won't be ready for it. If they try it I expect them to go up tempo and bring in the extra OL to pound the smaller defense. I also think we may see more of Bolden running the ball this week.
I think thats what denver wants the pats to do if they play dime. Miami did it and pats tried running with no success. Obviously with edelman back pats options increase but forcing them to run may not be the worst idea .Our run blocking is average at best. Usually every season, pats have at least one game where they dominate purely on the ground. Cant remember a single game this season esp after all our WRs went out where we put the onus on the run game to take the load.

The Miami game is irrelevant for obvious reasons.

The "Rush 4, Drop 7" defense isn't nearly as effective as when Rex first had success with it. Patriots have spent time figuring out how to attack it and have done so successfully. 2010 was a long time ago.

Cant speak for the others but for me it the road game which makes me apprehensive. Last playoff game there i didnt expect much because we hardly had anybody. The 2006 one i remember the fake DPI called which put them up. I remember that more than brady's INT. We saw the calls during the November game. Dont think the refs are biased but they are influenced by the home crowd and 50/50 calls usually go with the home team. The intangibles of playing at home in a game of this magnitude are huge.

Three things could lose the game :

1) Turnovers
2) Domination by HGHers pass rush
3) Patriots give up 150+ rushing

If none of these happen, we win easily. If one or more happens, it gets more uncertain depending on the severity of the above.

Possible. but if you are denver what would you like to 'lose' the game with? Trying to stop the run conventionally and have pats throw to edelman and co for moving the chains or vice versa ?

Sanders has torched us and is the biggest problem for us in Denver's offense. He is essentially their Edelman, and expecting Butler to contain him is asking a lot. Playing any corner without much help on Sanders is probably going to end badly for the Patriots, and I wonder if they'll change their strategy; one thing that might help is the Broncos really don't do a lot of damage at the tight end position this season, which could allow the safeties to help more with both star receivers.

Osweiler and Thomas had some communication/ timing issues last game, and while Ryan played well, I agree, that is unlikely to repeat itself. It had just as much to do with Thomas having a really bad game.

People on this board think the Broncos offense will just run into the line three times and die...I think they are forgetting that Thomas and Sanders are a darn good receiving combo, and one that can do plenty of damage after the catch. I expect the Broncos offense to look better than advertised. Manning will certainly maximize the offense's chances as well as any QB in the league, failing body or not.

I think that's the poison we're going to choose, putting Butler on an island with Sanders and hoping the damage is minimal or at least tolerable. My thinking is we are going to sacrifice to stop the run, first and foremost, and we aren't going to play our men over the top of their routes like Pittsburgh did and concede on curls and crossers and let Manning dink and dunk his way upfield. I think we'll play fairly aggressive and mostly in a cover 1 and even 0 at times, and contest all those short routes. I see us stacking the box way more often than not.

Pittsburgh played Manning like he was the Manning of old. No way we make that mistake. BB has always reveled in defensive strategies that come out of left field and that's what we'll see- a complete reversal of the way we usually treat Manning.

The "home cooking" is the only variable I am concerned about. This is why it would be ideal if the Patriots could jump out in front to a comfortable lead and maintain or build on it as the game progresses.

to defer or not to defer ...

(lets start at the beginning press)

just keeping them out of the red zone
(like they are used to)
should do the trick

Marco Schlereth was on ESPN earlier this week. He brought up a good point that I hadn't thought about. Denver is a primarily man to man team. Thats what they are best at. Since they decided to change to zone against Pittsburgh they needed more communication. The crowd noise that affected the O equally affected the D because they couldn't hear each other to make the calls. That led to massive breakdowns.

People think it's easy for a team that plays man to go to zone. It's not and the Broncos showed why.

Also I add this :

The velocity is a bit off though ;)

They wont play zone vs the pats. Not recommended vs Brady.

So roby has a quad and harris has a shoulder injury. Those could be big.

Zone or man, i dont think edelman or amendola will have trouble getting open

Well, by this time tomorrow I'll either be drunk from celebrating or drunk from disappointment.....

Boys, are we setting ourselves up here? All the local mediots are picking us overwhelmingly, along with the national morons. Hell, I'm more confident than ahead of KC..

..it's quiet.. too quiet.

he cant cover edelman either way. they should test his shoulder out early and see if he can tackle. it cant heal 100% in a week

It isn't going to be "one week," though. The Broncos had the bye and he was still nursing it a bit last week, but even then, he still had 3/4 snaps.

All accounts point to him being much healthier this week, as he's had more time to heal.
