Re: Minicamp Day Two

That's right Phil, snoring in meetings gets you cut, sleeping just earns an eraser.

Ah, I see you on t'other side of t'pond had to endure that fate as well, assuming you mean having the "blackboard rubber" (no sniggering!).

Re: Minicamp Day Two

Side note 2: Query - How many chewed tennis balls and doggy chew toys were in Wes Welker's locker this morning?

 Good one Box! Answer - about the same amount of leashes in Brady's!

I'd have bought a box of those pooper scooper bags and a box of doggy treats with some tape labeled "Wes" for Brady. Maybe a book on care and feeding too.

If an agreement can't be reached with Samuel, I think it's a better than even chance that Wilson starts at CB opposite Hobbs, with Merriweather, Hawkins, or Sanders filling in at safety. I feel more comforable with that orientation than James or Scott starting at this point in their careers, and it's hard to rely on Blue after what he's been through the last two years.
Why would Gay's past injuries keep him from starting this year, if he is the best available?

Do you really think BB will say, "Gay is the best we have today, but I don't want to start him this Sunday because he will probably get hurt before the season ends."

No, we fans will worry about whether he can finish the season. BB will put the best men on the field each game (dare I say it?) one game at a time..

Evans' Military Family Keeps Him Humble

To no one's surprise, the Patriots run their practices with military precision and efficiency. Some like it, some don't. But if you grew up in a house with a military mindset, chances are you will respond to it.
-----
"The Marine mindset I grew up with was that the Patriots have blessed me, now I have got to bless them. Myself last, the team first," said Evans. "The whole attitude of Mr. Kraft and Coach Belichick in giving me an opportunity, and my father told me to go over and above the call of duty."
-----
Now Evans is together with the Patriots, and he appreciates his new two-year contract. "Security is rewarding. It's nice. It's kind of funny because coaches are hesitant to give people some security because they don't want them to back off. In my career, I was with Seattle for four years and they wanted me, but didn't quite know how to use me. In Miami, obviously they didn't want me. So, it just feels great to be wanted. My whole preparation this off-season, was that they've honored me, they've given me a great contract, and now I need to step up to the plate even that much more. Let's give them even more that they don't know that I am capable of."

I have a suspicion that the reason Meriweather isn't practicing is because he doesn't have a deal yet. Rodney said he has seen Meriweather working hard in the weight room. At the golf tournament, Wilfork said the rookies are doing well under his tutelage. There is nothing here to indicate a negative vibe that usually accompanies a sick bay commando 1st rd pick. The varying reports on his injury status (some say shoulder, some say hamstring) suggest to me that it is a smoke screen. Meanwhile, Geno (of whom I am a big fan) seems to be struggling. Others are dismissing this as just the trials and tribulations of early camp after a tough hamstring tear. I am concerned because he was awful at covering the slot in the games in which he played last season. The notion that he can "switch back to cb" is IMO a pipe-dream considering last season's coverage struggles, unless he makes a miraculous turn around. At this point I would rather have Artell starting, I'm sad to say, despite the soft spot I have for Wilson- unless Geno can win back his job with a big camp.

As far as Maroney... the only question I have about Maroney is whether his body can stand up to the punishment. I have no doubt about his talent as a runner or receiver. I was hoping he would show up in spectacular shape. It's hard to tell, but he doesn't look any different from last season in the lower body, which I admit is a mild disappointment.

Meh, most rookies practice at minicamp without deals anyways.

Re: Minicamp Day Two

I hear "Allisonlovesbrady", "Patsman12" and "Patriotsrule" also "contributed" to his reports!

Well, Allison, spelled 'Alison', actually overheard about minicamp from some friends that happened to go, and there was some guy running CB drills that they noticed randomly (they don't really pay much attention or know any names, of course), and casually mentioned to her the next day out of the blue because something the guy did seemed out of the ordinary. ;)

Naturally, Casale is going to report it as a fact.

One Negative with the receivers so far has been the hands of Kelley Washington.

Kelley Washington will get cut in training camp. There is no way he makes it here over Caldwell's and Gaffney'a familiarity with the offense(and Brady) and Welkers versatility. Also, a healthy C. Jackson would be awsome in the second half of the season.

Think about it. The second half of the season, the pats can roll out

Moss
Stallworth
Caldwell
Welker
C. Jackson (He may be healthy by then)
Gaffney

The only way Washington makes it is if he is really good on special treams(like vince papale. :D)

Based on the track record of this board, you just guaranteed that Washington will make the team.

Agreed on Maroney. From the pictures, his arms still look somewhat small. I'm sure the shoulder didn't help with lifting in the off season.

The point is that some players become injury-prone, and you cannot rely on them making it through training camp and the pre-season and the season healthy. If Gay is the best available and healthy, by all means, he can start. I just don't think you can assume he will be, the way you can assume guys like Brady will be. All I'm saying is that, more that any other position, there had better be a credible Plan B, C, D, and E at corner back, and I think switching Wilson back to corner could be a part of that.

It's OK, Samuel will report to camp.:)

:eat3: <<<<<<<<< kool-aid.

:D

Remember when Stephen Neal headed that list?

And Willie McGinest.

Yep. They proved that they weren't injury-prone. And then there was Bethel Johnson, Adrian Klemm (Hall-of-Famer), Ted Johnson, etc...guys you could count on getting hurt every year.

Right now, Gay and Seau are atop the list, although Seau makes it mostly on his Dolphins career.
