That's just disgusting. I hope that they find the scumbags who did it.

Thats why that place is so F'd up. Too bad those people that did it didn't get washed away by the hurricane.

Re: Lower than low Hill's house hit by burglers the day of the funeral

Sadly it is a very common thing for burglers to do. They can read the obituaries and know houses will be unoccupied at certain times.

Its just not in NO ,but just about everywhere, our small town is being infected with illiegel immigrants, and a population of 8500 is now 35000... But its pretty sad down in dixe...

Its such a common and well know practice, it's surprising that no one was stationed at the house that day!

Right, because they're all burglars. No American Citizen has ever burgled a house before.

New Orleans is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. No disrespect to those who do.

Same thing goes on with weddings.

Should just hire a guard for those few hours. Can't cost too much on top of all the other funeral arrangements.

It does happen more than people think. However, I'm a little bit surprised that they hit such a high profile home. they must have "cased" it to make sure no one would be home.

Re: Lower than low Hill's house hit by burglers the day of the funeral

That stuff happens all the time, along with weddings.. easy to find out when no one is home, and particularly in the case of weddings usually lots of new stuff easy to move, difficult to trace... Nothing has been registered. Too bad for Marquis Hill's family..

Correct.

That's what makes me think it could be an associate of the family which is as low as it can get.

That happens in many urban cities in the US esp. with deaths that are major news stories. It happens in New Orleans the most when someone has been killed in a street crime, normally not such high profile people.

And what does that have to do with a house being burgled while people are at a funeral?

True...and on top of that New Orleans is a very tough town (even before Katrina).

Re: Lower than low Hill's house hit by burglers the day of the funeral

Unfortuantely, this is a regular thing, not just in NO. I have read that if you have a funeral in your family, especially one that is "high profile" (i.e. featured in the local paper) you should have someone stay at your house during the funeral. Pretty sad statement about the state of our country.

Oh wow-that's too bad. Not what any family needs on top of dealing with a loved one's death.
When my good friend's father passed away (he was considered sorta high-profile,but just locally),some neighbors did the family a big favor and kindly took turns watching the house during all the proceedings. Cars were parked in the driveway purposely, etcetc. Sad when we have to consider that aspect during such a difficult time.
