Byrne: The Colts went toe-to-toe with the Patriots, but got outplayed in the battle of wits

And the Superbowl against the Giants where Pierre Woods had clear possession of a Giants' fumble.

I will never forgive Pierre Woods for this. It bounced directly into his chest, it shouldn't even have been a scrum.

Ahmad Bradshaw has made egregious gaffes in each Pats-Giants Super Bowl and got bailed out each time.

Agreed. I would argue it is like any other stat, it provides information but not the whole story. Does NBA scoring average tell how good a player is? Well, it provides some information, but there are all sorts of other sophisticated stats that give additional information, PER, assists, rebounds, etc., etc. Then, very importantly, the savvy NBA watcher (or GM) supplements those stats with what their eyes see in watching games. What the eyes see is perhaps MOST important, but stats can help to provide additional information and perhaps educate what those eyes should be looking for.

Agree, except for the part about PER. That's one of the worst stats in any sport.

Eh, they went toe to toe for one half and that was it and really the perception of them going toe to toe in the 1st half was helped by a very fluky pick 6.

The blueprint to beating the Pats.

1. Count on a Patriot receiver getting hit in chest with a perfectly thrown football and him bobbling it up for a pick-6.

2. Have about four would-be interceptions fall threw the hands of Patriot corners.

3. Count on Patriots stepping off the gas and not scoring any more points as they attempt to run down the clock.

4. Score in garbage time.

5. Give yourself a moral "win" because you only lose by 7 points.

Lots of praise from Colts fans on BB and the NEP:

The Patriots Model - Colts Football

These Colts fans seem to get it, which makes what we've had to endure with Deflategate so far, and the prospect of future lost draft picks even more aggravating.

They know why the Pats win, and it isn't by cheating, yet we've had to endure all this crap.

The final score should not have been that close, similar to the Buffalo game.
24-14 at the half, 41-14 final.
