What are your thoughts on Todd Bowles?

I don't know much about him. But I do remember that when Brandon Marshall said that Tom Brady's suspension was overturned because Brady is white, Todd Bowles called Marshall's comments "well-warranted." (link)
Your totally misinterpreting what Brandon Marshall said. He said that there were three types of player reactions to Brady's suspension being lifted. Smart players who saw it as a victory for the players. Cowards who were scared of facing him and some players who were thinking from the context of race. He never said Brady's suspension was overturned because he is white.

In any case with Bowles...so far so good. Quiet, competent and for the most part keeps his team focused and shut up with the pointless bravado that Rex encouraged. Time will tell just how good he is but I am a little peeved that the Jets may finally have gotten a capable coach.

He's not "totally misinterpreting" anything...

Brandon Marshall of New York Jets -- Race factored into Tom Brady reversal

"The race card," Marshall said. "There are a lot of players out there that believe that white players -- specifically, at the quarterback position -- are treated differently."

Asked if he believes black players are held to a different standard, Marshall said, "Absolutely. At times, yes."

I didn't remember it as him saying it was specifically his opinion on why Brady's suspension was overturned. I recall believing that the media kind of twisted his comments to make it sound that way.

Todd Bowles seems to be a fully functioning adult with impulse control and not a toddler in a man's body like his predecessor, which is a profound disappointment to me as a Pats fan.

He's not Rex Ryan and unfortunately he's got the Jets pointed in the right direction....for now. We'll see how long that lasts.

You are remembering correctly.

If Marshall had considered the angles and ramifications instead of looking to yap from the emotional side of his brain, he would have stated: If Goodell using evidence as thin as paper can sanction so severely a player of the highest stature in our league, what does the average to below average player, many of them black, have against Goodell's arbitrary if not unfounded conclusions and punishments? Fortunately Brady provided a path for us all to be able to neutralize the commissioner when he acts without fairness and/or rule of law.
That is the smart statement that puts Marshall in a position of leadership and pushing what's best for his fellow players. Instead he went with a 'Brady is white so he gets better treatment' when, arguably, the NFL treated him more harshly for the least amount of reason for any player I have ever seen. Good job Marshall...

I don't know much about Bowles, but if he's coaching the Jet's I hate him lol

I respect him. He is not a blowhard. He seems old school like bb. But...he's with the jets so I want him to fail.

I live in NYC and so I've been following this more closely than I would like.

At first I thought Todd Bowles was a robot who was saying all the right things...kind of programmed and too good to be true...but who was probably going to prove to be a lightweight.

But the more I see of him, the more I worry that the Jests somehow made a mistake and accidentally picked a bona fide NFL head coach this time after years of duds, idiots and rats.

Especially this week, where for the last several years I've been used to reading another idiotic comment by Wrecks on the back page of the Daily News every day with my morning coffee in the days leading up to the Super Bowl against the Pats...instead, Bowles has been all business and even has his players (except for Sheldon Richardson, who apparently didn't get the memo) either saying the right things or keeping their mouths shut.

And, BTW, the "robot" approach is probably as good a way as any to deal with the New York media.

I always liked Bowles, im kind of hoping im wrong and he fails miserably now though

Big fan of coach Bowles....is a great leader and teacher and has the Jets going in the right direction...

I'm holding out hope for him to ultimately be mediocre. Yea, Bowles does seem not to screwing things up yet. Lets see what happens when the stakes get high.

The jets might have gotten it right even if they go down on sunday. He doesn't bring the circus show like ryan.

Just updating based on the first game impressions.

I was impressed with the Jets not totally imploding as usual. That is a HUGE achievement and I have a ton of respect for Bowles for that.

He overcame a really tough start to his HC career with all of the Richardson issues (suspension, speeding, hold-out), and some no-name linebacker knocking his starting QB out. But he's built up a surprisingly competent Jets team.

Also thought his game management decision at the end of the game was solid by going for the FG and onside early. Most coaches will drive that down for the TD and kill too much clock to make the FG.

On the other hand, I am not sure he was alive during the game. I didn't see him move or talk once. He might be the second coming of Jim Caldwell.

But as a start, I think he's done a tremendous job and I hope the Jets fans turn on him quickly and fire him.

Pretty much agree with everything. I thought his clock management while the Patriots was driving with 2-3 minutes to go was a bit like Andy Reid. He let the Patriots take a lot of time off the clock with that drive and never called a time out. He could have preserved another minute or more if he had used the timeouts at that point.
