Anyone else think the Pats WON'T go out of their way to embarrass the Colts?

Call me old fashion or whatever but I'm nervous about this game because you never know on any given Sunday. The Patriots are clearly the more superior team, but as we saw in 2007, sometimes the other team can get quite a few bounces their way that allow them to pull off an upset.

I think the Patriots will win and I hope its a total blowout of epic proportions, but I can't help but be nervous for this game. It's going to be an intense "playoff like", emotional game on Sunday Night Football, on the road in a very hostile stadium to a team that just had 10 days to prepare for an opponent that they despise. Wouldn't surprise me if they pulled a Rex Ryan and had started preparing for the Patriots weeks ago

Every team, every year has that game circled with the Pats and I guarantee most of them start preparing weeks prior to try and win. This is like part of the amazing thing about BB. Every year he has 15 other teams gunning for him, spending additional time preparing just for his team and he still wins. This game will be no different in that respect.

I actually had a dream last night that the Patriots scored 57 points in this game.

Here's to dreams coming true.

I don't think the Pats can avoid embarrassing the Colts.

I think for this to be a blowout the defense is going to need to score points. More likely we see a 30-17 type of outcome.

Why? You don't think this offense is capable of putting up more than 30 points on that soft defense?

Scoring 50+ pts is not an easy task vs any team in the NFL like we seem to throw around here. The fact that the pats have done it sometimes speaks to their greatness at times but it is not the norm. Look at the jax game. Those guys couldnt move the at all at the 2nd half and pats had the ball all the time. So we scored 50. A LOT of things have to go your way to score so many points. Like the buttfumble game. But most nfl games have an ebb and flow where the other nfl team does something as well. Even the colts have professional players who are tired of losing to the pats . Dont think they are lying down thinking we will let them score 50.Moro ever our defense is not the same as last year on the backend. And even then we didnt hit the 50 mark.
We have just been spoilt by this pats regime.

I agree 100%! But allow me to play Devil's Advocate:
  • The Patriots have the #1 Offense in the NFL, while the Colts have the #31 Defense
  • Along with being #1 Overall, the Pats lead the NFL in Drive Success Rate, Yards per Drive, Yards per Play, and First Downs per Drive, while the Colts rank 29th, 31st, 29th, and 28th
^^For the Colts, this is a recipe for disaster! :D:D:D

But you're right. Putting up 50+ points is very difficult at the pro-level.

Exactly. There's this weird school of thought that somehow there's a direct correlation between how pissed we are and how much the Pats will win by. Oh, we hate them! The Pats hate them! Eighty to nothing.

The Pats should win, and hopefully it'll be a sound thumping. But out of control scores just sort of happen. I think the biggest blowout in 2007 was against the Bills--game just snowballed, it wasn't because the Pats really hated Buffalo. The Pats were beating Tennessee 59-0 in the third quarter a few years back--the team wasn't rabid for that game, they were just better and the Titans didn't feel like playing at all.

Here's to a Pats' W and no injuries. The Pats beat the Colts by 38 last time they played and the margin of victory this time will probably be less. (Or more! Just don't be disappointed if it's by 20.)

My guess is that the club will be empty once we are through with the Colts.

One of the underrated parts of Belichick's coaching ability is his ability to manage a locker room. He seems to have an uncanny ability to know when the team needs to get their ass kicked, when they need praise, when it will serve them well to eat some humble pie and when it will serve them well to let them twist the knife.

He may very well think that the best thing is to never let off the gas. Or he might think that the best thing to do is to manage the game in a way that sends a clear message to the players that the Colts aren't good enough to deserve our scorn.

Lot of words to say "In Bill I trust" I guess, but that's how I feel. I don't think there's anyone with a better gauge on the state of the team than Bill.

Pretty much how I see it. I don't think there is any need for Belichick to treat this as anything more than what it is, a game with conference implications the Patriots need to win. The players know how much grief the Colts organization caused their team and QB and they will play their asses off and let the chips fall as they do in terms of score.

Even though he hasn't played well against the Patriots I do have a concern that Luck could burn the Patriots CBs and keep it close so I am hoping the Patriots use the same formula they have used in recent years and run the ball down their throats the entire game. I would love to see a 35-40 point output that keeps Luck on the sideline all night long. If they limit him to 8 drives or less the Colts have no chance at all to win this game.

I know we're all talking about it but honestly I don't think they'll do it. They may be seeing them again this year plus I don't get the sense that they want any kind of "revenge" nor have a lot of contempt for that organization. They just want 5-0 and that's it.

Now IMO if it was the Ravens this week... that would be a different story.
I don't think they will go out of their way not to embarrass the dolts, its become a big time rivalry. But in the past a few games that we all thought would end up being revenge blowouts never came to be. ex. the first game against the jest after they turned the pats in for cameragate was suppose to be a blowout. I remember posters here (including me) predicting a 60-70 point blowout, it wasn't close to that. That being said the owner and front office went out of their way to try and destroy the reputation of the patriot organization and qb, so i expect no mercy from BB and TB towards the colts.

Rivalries normally involve one hard-fought games with victories on both sides. The Jets are better rivals than this Colts team.

I get what you're saying though but it reminds me of back in the 90s or whenever when the Nets coach whose name I can't remember said that the Nets and Celtics had a great rivalry which, at the time, was pretty funny because the Nets had never been @ the Celtics level.

The reason i said rivalry was because the jest and miami haven't been good enough to sustain a real rivalry. Maybe this years edition of the dolts isn't good enough either so far but...The pats and colts have been a marquee matchup for more than a decade, with the winner sometimes going on to the super bowl.

I don't hold any real animosity towards the Colts players.

BUT, the owner, front office, a bit of the coach and certainly the history has me wanting this team to be humiliated and leave the national media asking if the Colts are a professional football team and if they are, why they did't show up.

I want the inner workings to be pointing fingers at each other so they implode, for a time, and finish the season with the 11th overall pick.

Yes, but you still need things to go your way for a big blowout . And you need to be 100% efficient to win. Look at last yr's game in indy. We were dominating the game in the 1st half but there is only broken offensive line play resulting in brady hurrying and throwing a pick resulting in a TD. the game became close for no reason. sure we turned it around in the 2nd half. But stuff doesnt happen that way all the time. The rankings of offense defense etc , I dont see much of that matter just personally. There have been many a times pats or any team has faced a team with lowest rankings in all these categories and a lot of times games end up being close.
GB vs SF was a great example two weeks ago. SF was getting thumped by pitts and arizona the same storyline was developing here in the bay area in radio and among fans that rodgers is going to throw 6 TDS on SF. Final score 17-3.

The question for this game is not whether we will win, but will we score 60?

No. I just see the you shot me but couldn't kill me approach from the Pats. They are and should be more concerned with just getting a W and handing the Colts an L springing them closer to season death. I can also see them getting dirty as a result of Pats trying to run up the score, we just want to leave with no more of our guys injured.

Brady is an emotional guy, you can't see it in him on the sidelines, he handles the media really well and leaves the emotions on the field. This game means something to him and the entire offense. It would be naive to think Brady isn't motivated to blow these guys out and I'm sure McDaniels won't get in their way. Expect more downfield throws than usual.

Please, I beg God and his servant Josh to NOT throw deep to Matt Slater
