Tom Brady Deflates Deflate Gate

Towards the end, the article brings up pick plays and spins it as a dirty tactic that is helping Brady and the Pats win.... like it's some new scheme cooked up by Belichick.

Yup, two plays in one game and now picks are a Patriots thing, and a clampdown must come. Guess nobody watches the Broncos.

In New England they are called pick plays and are flagged all of the time, in Denver the media have renamed them "Rub plays" these plays are legal.
And you can honestly say that, while this play has been around for as long as there have been routes, BB nd McD have taken this page from the Bronco's because of the success they have had and the officials not calling it.

I say run it until it starts to cause too many issues (too many flags, drives being stalled or they change the rules). But, fans do a disservice by thinking the Pats are the only ones doing this (then again they are fairly delusional and this one will make me smile even more).

Funniest part of that article is that I basically nodded along when he suggested that the competition committee will definitely make a 'point of emphasis' regarding OPI this offseason, and maybe even sooner. If the Pats succeed with something, you can be pretty much certain that the NFL will make a rule against it.

So weird though, I see more picks in the average Broncos or Packers game than in almost any Patriots game. I think they wait until after the season, if only because the moment the pick play is consistently called Peyton will be unable to play QB in the NFL anymore.

They have already made it a point of emphasis, at least against New England. Offense Pass Interference calls are way up from 2014. The Patriots had 5 called all last year. They already have 5 this year.

Right....and that's why I answered it, so what's the problem?
Problem? i have to ask you what's your problem? First off i never asked you a question, second when i point out that i put a question mark after "picks are illegal aren't they" you come back with a snarky response about me having a problem. I never made any kind of nasty remark in either post.

you can't set picks like they do in the NBA the way Martin did.......any apparent intent will be flagged

you have to sell it as the route you are running or block your man into the other defender

Sterling Xie: Hey, so that pick play worked without getting called for a penalty for once. Looked like Danny Amendola could have been called for OPI -- he even gave the "I didn't do it" hands up signal as it happened -- but Edelman got free down the sideline and took it in for a 59-yard touchdown. Brady's splits between deep balls to the left and deep balls to the right have to be like the San Francisco Giants' splits between even-year seasons and odd-year seasons.

Aaron Schatz: The Cowboys also ran the pick play with Jason Witten on third-and-4 in the red zone, and it was a great example of how it should work for the receiver setting the pick: Terrence Williams was very clearly just running a route and not trying to block, but he ran right in the way of Devin McCourty. It was not a good example of how it should work for the receiver catching the ball, because McCourty got around Williams quickly and got over to tackle Witten short of the sticks. And the Cowboys kicked a field goal to be down 20-6 instead of going for it on fourth-and-2 because of course they did. And then on the next drive, that pass to Edelman to make it 27-6.

To review. You wrote: "picks are illegal aren't they?" So, yes you did "ask me" a question, in the sense that you asked the board a question. In response, I posted that no, they're not illegal, cited another thread about it, etc.

Then, after I posted that--which was an attempt to be helpful to you to answer your question, you wrote "Well thats why i put the ?????? mark after aren't they illegal" as for some reason you felt like you needed to clarify you were asking a question--and by putting a half dozen question marks in it, being weirdly aggressive about it. Then when I asked what the problem is, you say here you never asked a question at all and do I have a problem.

So...yeah. Kind of strange. Is Columbus Day a big drinking holiday where you are or something? (Kidding, kidding. But I don't really get the back and forth here.)

"This is once again Belichick getting near the line of what is allowed" this crap infuriates me. Has this guy seen denver's pick plays last 2 years ??

Yeah i don't want to get into a silly back and forth, it was early and i'm at work, and maybe i took it the wrong way.

It infuriates me too. The Broncos are the vanguard of this type of play.

I said it after Wes Welker took out Aqib Talib in that playoff game versus the Broncos that the Patriots would learn from this and it sure looks like they have. In the past two years, I've been seeing more and more pick plays - some work, some get called. Keep doing it until the league cracks down on it, which probably won't happen until King Whiner Peyton retires.

I noticed the haters crying about the pats low fumble rate have STFU too.

I dunno, as soon as Lewis had his second fumble I noticed them coming out of the woodwork again.

Don't you understand? It's only wrong when NE does it. It's perfectly fine for the other 31 until NE does it, then the competition committee will step in and take swift action.

It's only a matter of time when the league figures out that letting the Patriots have 11 men on the field at the same time the opposing team has 11 men on the field is detrimental to the integrity of the game.

If the NFL is smart (pause for laughter), they will wait until the end of the half to measure the balls so they are closer to equilibrium and then publicize those results.

What is up with this anyway? Are Goodell, Kensil, and Vincent taking a remedial HS chemistry course or are they hiring another "independent" investigator to take psi measurements this year under "similar" conditions to verify their own preconceived, agenda-driven conclusions?

Funny thing is, there are no rule infractions that are "illegal".

They are violations of coporate protocols. No laws were broken. No one will be charged wth a Misdeneanor or Felony. No small children died. The Federal Justice system will not become involved (sorry, Jerome Bettis:p).

There is nothing "illegal" about a pick play. It is an infraction against a mandated company policy.

Article 4 "Other Prohibited Acts by the Offense. Blocking more than one yard beyond the line of scrimmage by an offensive player prior to a pass being thrown is offensive pass interference."

When I rewatched that play it looked like DA was on or close to the LOS. No "violations" of "corporate mandated protocol" seem to have been committed. Either way, nothing "illegal" occurred, so no one was issued a ticket outlining a violation against society.

My favorite was on the Colts forum after Lewis fumbled in game 1, they were going animal over it like it was concrete proof of something lol.. and they were using fumbles in away games as part of their measure.. not too smart down there in Indiana

Hello??? It's f###### Indiana...

I dunno, as soon as Lewis had his second fumble I noticed them coming out of the woodwork again.

They did, but I'm guessing his point is that the Pats have had no fumbles in the past two games.

If they had fumbled in the last two games we'd definately be hearing about it.

Didn't the already announced details of the ball-measuring protocol basically confirm they'll be letting balls sit indoors for a while at halftime before being measured? I think it's an already put in place, intentional scheme to do exactly what you say.
