From his column this morning:

On Monday, NFL executive V.P. of football operations Troy Vincent said the league “hasn’t heard” from the Patriots regarding the reinstatement of John Jastremski and Jim McNally, the two employees suspended indefinitely after the Ted Wells report emerged in May. On Tuesday, the league confirmed that the Patriots have not made that request.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Patriots have indeed asked for the employees to be reinstated.

The request was made on or before late Monday afternoon. It definitely was made before Tuesday; it possibly was made before Vincent said the league hadn’t heard from the Patriots.

Somebody should have just asked Vincent or goodell why the patriots needed to ask for their permission for reinstatement if they didn't encourage their suspension in the first place.

Why is this news? Lying is the NFL's core business.

Oh come on.

Regardless of what went down before the formal punishment, the formal punishment explicitly states that the NFL has to give permission for them to be reinstated. So the question you want asked is completely pointless.

Whether or not the NFL "encouraged their suspension in the first place", the NFL eventually suspended them and said the NFL must give permission for them to be reinstated. So of course NE has to ask for permission and it has to ask for permission regardless of why they were originally suspended when they were.

Agreed Ross : League Office = intergrity. Synonyms.

Fun fact, beyond being synonyms, they share etymology. Both are rooted in the Latin word "legrit" which means "bovine anal excretion."

C'mon guys. Y'all should know by now that this is how double secret probation works!

That's where I was going. I know the nfl wanted them fired. You know it. On the m&m show goodell said they didn't ask for it. If just one of the guys on the panel asked why then did the patriots needed to ask for permission to reinstate them then goodell would be caught in a lie on national TV.

No, he wouldn't be caught in a lie.

The timeline is this:
1) The Patriots suspended J&M.
2) Later, the NFL also suspended J&M and said the NFL had to give permission for them to be reinstated. This isn't a matter in dispute. The punishment and permission requirement were there in black and white in Vincent's letter.

The open question, and what Goodell was being asked about, is why the Patriots suspended J&M when they did. The haters said NE did it because NE knew they were guilty. The pro-NE forces say NE did it because the NFL asked/encouraged them to do it. Goodell said the NFL did not ask NE to do it.

Regardless, the NFL ultimately, unquestionably suspended them with a permission requirement. That's why permission needs to be asked. There is no contradiction between Goodell saying that the NFL didn't ask NE to suspend them and the requirement for NFL permission for reinstatement.

BINGO! We got BINGO!

Does Gary Tanguay know about this???

If they are perhaps he can "scoop" the real story!!!

@QuantumMechanic can you tell me why you disagree that Vincent or Goodell should be asked why they need to grant permission to reinstate McNally and Jastremski if they didn't demand both be suspended?

Curran: The NFL acknowledged it received reinstatement request. First request sent Monday, no reply. After 2 more, league said they got it.

Now I'm guessing that the NFL will decline to allow them to be reinstated, without giving any evidence of wrongdoing, since they have none.

Then maybe we'll have a lawsuit on behalf of JJ.

Can a third party prevent an employer from having someone on the payroll, for no reason? Employment with the Patriots is probably at the discretion of the team and can be terminated at any time for any reason or for no reason, but does the NFL have the right to veto employment decisions?

Lawyers?
