According to the fallowing Blog the NE Patriots have signed LB Chad Brown to a new contract.

The first time I clicked on the above link it gave me a page error, so here's what they have written:

Pats, LB Chad Brown Agree To Terms
Holy Randy Moss, Old School is back in style. The Patriots and linebacker Chad Brown have agreed to terms, according to a league source.

The signing comes in the wake of a report by the San Diego Tribune's Jim Trotter that they have also come to terms with another vintage linebacker, Taiana 'Junior' Seau, in an attempt to shore up the linebacker corps.

For Brown, who'll turn 37 in July, it'll be his 16th NFL campaign. Brown was signed by the Patriots in 2005 as a free agent and was credited with 54 tackles in 15 games (5 starts). Brown was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1993 and played there until 1996 - he made an encore performance last year for the Black and Gold of the Iron City.

Brown's a three-time Pro Bowler ('96, '98 and '98) and will provide added cover at either the outside or inside linebacker spots. Brown's most recent endeavor was working full-time at his reptile business based in Littleton, Colorado. He's the owner of www.proexotics.com.

Brown's represented by Peter Schaefer and Lamont Smith.

I wonder if they mixed up Chad Brown with Chris Brown, since they've been interested in him? We'll see if this report is true.

Re: LB Chad Brown Signed?

What the hell, if he stinks they cut him in August. No big risk. It does add fuel to those that believe that BB likes the veterans more then signing rookies for the LB spot.

I am not excited about this at all. He didn't work out well the first time and hasn't really been a factor anywhere for a number of years. I'm sure there has to be better quality depth than this.

Re: LB Chad Brown Signed?

Hopefully they signed him to be the new water boy.

Seriously, if this is true, then maybe he's going to play OLB again. I can't see C. Brown making this roster as an ILB after his struggles there.

I certainly didn't miss Brown but as we've had him before Belichick must have a pretty good feel for what he can/cannot get out of him - if he wants him back he probably has a role he can compete for.

Re: LB Chad Brown Signed?

The fact that the link is bad tells me that this is like when someone reported that the Patriots had signed Stallworth when they hadn't.

It worked for me when I tried it the second time. The blog's authors are Dan Pires and Dave Brown FWIW.

The guys that sit right behind me make them. There are a few pix of us from last year with them on the site. It was funny to see how they have appeared more and more in our section since they first wore them a couple of years ago.

Yup, and Dave Brown actually had a pretty good article about Meriweather while he was covering the Patriots rookie camp. So, it's Most likely true that a league source has told them Chad Brown resigned, but it's the league source that might not be accurate. We'll see, and it really doesn't matter. I mean, his being signed doesn't mean he's going to knock Lua, Rogers or any of the other LB's off the roster, it just means NE's giving him a shot.

I read the link and what I found interesting was that the team MIGHT be heavy into teh running for Keyshawn as well...I see him CB as being that 3rd SOLID OUTSIDE LB....which would be GREAT!! NO ILB for him...

The link is working again.

Re: LB Chad Brown Signed?

I just talked to Pires, and he's confirming it.

I asked him if the rumor was true and he's like "yeah, I'm reporting it, not rumoring it."

Funny guy. :D

You mean the fourth solid OLB, right?
1. Colvin, 2. AD, 3. Vrabel

Also, they are wrong about what ESPN said concerning Keyshawn:
Continuing on that theme [aging-vet-to-Patriots or the Pats sign their 900th wide receiver], ESPN's reporting Belichick's Patriots are the leaders to sign free agent wide receiver Keyshawn Johnson, who was the No. 1 pick in 1996 by the New York Jets.

Michael Smith on ESPN said the Titans were the favorites, and that he wouldn't count NE out. He didn't say NE was "the leaders" to land his services.

Yeah that is the first I heard of it. I've heard that the Patriots MIGHT be interested but most of the interest was coming from Johnson's end. I have never heard that the Patriots are leading candidates.

Recently Johnson said that he is expecting a fairly sizeable contract from whatever team he plays for.

"I'm not in rental mode. You're not going to rent me for six months because someone with my career warrants more than that," Johnson said. "I just laugh when I read that stuff. All those editors should save their ink for another day. I keep seeing people say that I'm going to sit around and wait for a receiver to get hurt in training camp.

"I don't need to do that. I'm not playing for $750,000, $850,000, $1 million or $2.5 million. You can write that down."

Re: LB Chad Brown Signed?

NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS IF IT'S TRUE. HE SUCKS. I STILL REMEMBER THE SHOCKING SIGHT OF TOMLINSON RUNNING THROUGH HIS ARM TACKLES AND BEISEL HELPING TOMLINSON FINISH HIS RUN BY ESCORTING HIM INTO THE ENDZONE!!!
How many Senior Citizens do we need at linebacker? Junior Seau is enough. I was not happy when we signed him in 2005 and I am disgusted that we signed him again.

The reason you haven't heard it that way is because they misrepresented what was actually reported on ESPN. ESPN hasn't said NE was the favorites to land him, they've only said NE might be one of the teams interested, which is a big difference.
