Quarterback Play - The Key Was Boyce

I noticed two drops: first one a high, but catchable, pass from Brady and another on a pass from Garoppolo where he jumped to catch it over a defender. Then, there was the interception where he could have hooked back more or been more physical in fighting for the ball. Other than that, there were several bad throws including a few where he was open and the pass was late/underthrown by Garoppolo. Not a stellar performance by any means, but his speed is intriguing and I'd give him another pre-season game.

How do you know that where the passes were"not accurate" Boyce was not where he was supposed to be? So in addition to stone hands, and an inability to seperate despite his speed, he can't run routes Both QBs including Brady threw balls to where Boyce was not, but perhaps to where he should have been. .

2-3X JAG UNDERTHREW Boyce on deep routes. Boyce nicely broke up one which could have been a pick. Under throwing your WR on a Go route is on the QB, not where Boyce should have been.

Jimmy G is gonna look really good with the 1st team WRs

I think that our QB's looked awful. I though that our 3rd string OL played OK opposite GB's first string defense, a minority view I know.

When one sees the stats, one realizes that Boyce was indeed dropping a pass very, very often. Some of the passes weren't perfect, but Boyce was awful.

There were lots and lots and lots of players out (23?). I think that the QB's would have looked much, much better with Edelman available in the first half and Tyms or Dobson in the second.
I stopped watching at halftime, but Boyce clearly should have caught Brady's second pass to him, which would have given them a first down. The pass was high but there and he just let it go through his hands (reminded me of the pick that Asante didn't make on Eli at the end of the SB in 2008, but I really have to let that go, don't I?). You gotta know that the competitor in Brady is thinking he was ready to take them down the field at that point.
Didn't see much of the rest, but, based on Brady's history, Boyce is going to have to win back his confidence in practice before he throws to him on a third down again.

I give Jimmy and Boyce a free pass on the INT, that was textbook interference by the DB who made the INT. He was all over Boyce and I was disgusted the refs didn't call it (I guess I better get used to bad calls or non calls).

Haven't we discussed enough inference from circumstantial evidence already?

The KR TD in the #1 Seed game @ Indy comes to mind.

As does the KO return at the end of the first half against Denver. A good case could be made that NE doesn't win the SB that year without him.

They certainly wouldn't have had HFA throughout.

At least Bethel did this:

And was a pretty damn good KR. Plus, he scored a TD in the post season.

Yea that was an unbelievable catch for sure, but he was pretty inconsistent

It's a bummer that Boyce is looking like a dud because this offense really needs that speedster piece in the tool box

Well, yeah, that's why he was cut a couple of years later. The point is, at least he contributed. Boyce has been active for 10 games in two years, and one last year. Against Buffalo. Where every scrub played. Boyce? 0 catches. This is his third season and he hasn't done jack ****.

Why?

I think they did just fine last year.

The offense did fine, but it will never hurt your offense to have a horse in the stable that can run a sub 4.4 and pop the top off of a defense

That and it's obviously a bummer to see yet another draft pick wasted on a disappointing wide receiver

Meh.

They won the Super Bowl last year. I think BB knows what he's doing personnel-wise.

I have a different view. The offense didn't play. The offense literally didn't show up.

The 11 offensive starters played a total of 7 reps, all by Brady. Amendola played the 7 reps with Brady.

None of our top OL's from 2014 played. Our top 2 WR's didn't play. Neither of our top TE's played. Our top RB didn't play. Our top 3rd down and utility back (Bolden) didn't play.

To be clear, Brady and Amendola could play the next game with an entirely different set of players on offense.

He was talking about 2014.

And if Brandon Bolden is our anything back other than "scrub who gets a couple of carries because he had a good week of practice" back - then the top 3 RBs are hurt, and we're in serious trouble.

That "take the top off the defense" receiver that fans really want is pretty overrated in our offense. Because or offense is mainly quick short to medium passes so the QB doesn't have to stand in the pocket all day. Sure, it's a nice piece to have. But we already have Tyms who has shown himself to be much better at it than Boyce. And if we want a really fast guy that can't play receiver, but is listed as "WR" on the roster, we already have that in Slater.
