The nfl network blows. Dude is a bit a of reach...and straight to ad. ESPN at least gave some good information about him.
I am just drained. I was so happy seeing all those LBs, tackles, and crappy corners going through the whole round. Every pick seemed to be working in the Pats favor. Closer and closer we got and I was so excited. We could have gone in so many directions with all those great players still out there.

And then Bill does that
this guy has zero chance to be a stud player 0!

I'd hold off on that for a while.

My Jemea Thomas jersey was an impulse buy I now regret...
Hope that was a China knockoff.

Another wasted 2nd round pick. My draft guide says he has a 7th round rating, and BB wastes a 2nd on him? Trade back. BB the GM continues to fuc$ BB the coach. This will be the worst pick of the round. Pathetic!
So ****ing true. I wish he traded this pick for a 2nd next year and a 3rd this year. At least it would have delayed my rage for a year. So moronic. Can't believe it, but should have seen it coming. Hopefully BB's paralysis of the brain doesn't last into the 3rd round. Though I expect he trades OUR 3rd round pick for a 4th and a 5th (he's FORCED to take the compensatory pick in the 3rd, hopefully he doesn't take a place kick HOLDER with that pick).

I guess we can forget about him covering opposing team tight ends then :)

DRAFT ANALYSIS:

"Richards is a very smart safety. This is a bit of a reach for the Patriots; maybe two rounds early." -- Daniel Jeremiah

PRO DAY RESULTS
40-yard dash: 4.59 seconds
Vertical jump: 34 1/2 inches
Broad jump: 9 feet
20-yard short shuttle: 4.32 seconds

STRENGTHS
Team captain and defensive leader. Played some wide receiver in high school. Good hands with ability to make difficult interceptions. Attacks ball at high-point. Moves well as high-low safety. Extended range in run support and doesn't mind the physical side of the position. Has secondary motor for extended pursuit. Good football and personal character. Productive three-year starter.

WEAKNESSES

Displays obvious coverage limitations. Below-average instincts when asked to play deep safety. Slow to see it, with marginal recovery speed. Struggles in man coverage. Grabby at the top of the route and lacks feet to match and mirror. Slow to digest route combinations out of bunch formations. Comes downhill against run quickly, but out of control at times. Needs improvement as a wrap-up tackler.

DRAFT PROJECTION

Round 6 or 7

BOTTOM LINE
A limited, run-support safety whose coverage issues could be an issue for NFL teams looking for diverse safety play. He's a willing tackler who plays with range in run support, but Richards' lack of instincts and ability to stick receivers in space could limit his NFL opportunities.

LOL - - who is this "we" kimo sabe?

I am talking we in general. I am sure you loved steals like Chad Jackson. Fact is not all Belichick's reaches end up being bad picks. And not all of his steals turn into good players.

Wow, look at all the arm chair GM's basically calling a HOF GM/Coach a moron and they sitting in their basements reading draft books know more than the HOF GM/Coach who literally has a team of scouts at his disposal and spends millions of dollars a year evaluating talent and even personally evaluates some of that talent.

I get that you may have wanted a different player, that is fine you are entitled to your opinion. But to suggest that the player you wanted better fits the Patriots system than the one they selected and would have been a better pick........talk about egos being stroked........give it a rest you aren't GM's of football teams for a reason.
Do you think the draft positions of Duron Harmon and Tavon Wilson are justifiable? Right now, I don't and in my opinion, the Richards selection appears to mirror both; a significant over investment.

Oh lord, BB picked against the wisdom of your draft guide? How terrible!

I was as confused initially as everyone else, but after review I like him. There's absolutely nothing wrong with grabbing a highly intelligent safety with the last pick in the 2nd round... Would I have taken him? No, but I'm not Bill Belichick. I can absolutely envision McCourty and Richards being a nice tandem if Richards develops.
he sucks!

Diggy to Giants

He's such a Giants player

Wait until the preseason to pass judgment.

There goes Diggy. Such a Giants pick.

Wow, Jets added Ohio State's WR Devin Smith, they are having a GREAT draft. I guess BB is purposely trying to narrow the gap ? What a bonehead ****ing move.

He's a public policy major at Stanford, so he and BB can have those long night discussions about politics.

He can confuse receivers with trash-talk using multi-syllable words enough to get them off their game. It's genius strategy really.

I'd hold off on that for a while.

My Jemea Thomas jersey was an impulse buy I now regret...
Ummmm, Jemea Thomas was a late round JAG... This is a 2nd rounder we are talking about here.

Everyone knows better than BB. Good to know. Even more incredible as I'm pretty confident almost none of them have watched his film.

Based on the response on this board, can the Pats cut Richards tomorrow? Why wait and force the guy to come to Foxboro and do all the media stuff.

People already have this guy being a bust and washout. Yes, it was a reach, but many of Belichick's reaches have turned into good to great players. Some prove to be bad picks too, but we are surprised a lot of the time with these reaches.

Ironiczlly, it is a lot of the picks we all think are steals that turn into the busts - See Jake Bequette for example.

You have to realize, posters here have been scouting him for three years and their minds are made up.
