Dennard can cover.

As Mike Reiss said in one of his chats, Dennard couldn't even get on the field last year and when he did, he was replaced quickly and he is someone that shouldn't be relied on to make a contribution this year.
A corner who can cover in the 2nd round would be a welcome addition to our secondary.

Also I know people here want a RB. Would anyone here trade a 6th or 7th for Zac Stacy from the Rams?

Personally I would not cause he fell off hard last year but he has potential.

I wouldn't either. I don't think BB would have any interest in a guy who isn't willing to _earn_ touches and carve out a place on the depth chart. Instead Stacy says "I want out" as soon as he's bumped down the depth chart.

Rowe, Marpet, Clemmings, Duke and David Johnson,Mike Davis, Tre McBride are a several players I'd love to hear to tonight or tomorrow for the Pats.

Not even close

That was last year's group.
What group did we have since 2009 was better than what we have this year, except for last season. Some of those teams had almost HISTORICALLY bad pass defense stats including the superbowl 2011 team. People,, always over exaggerate the problems a team has. If a position isn't filled by a future HOFer, the guy who man's it is a bum (Hyperbole but.....)

So here's the question. Of the last 5 secondaries before last season, which was had more talent than the one we have so far on this year's roster

I agree with Ashley/Reiss here. Anything Dennard gives NE going forward is a bonus as far as I'm concerned. I think that there will be a few additions via FA or the draft. But it looks like the chances are decent BB wants to build the front 7 and hope that does wonders as DMac patrols the outfield to limit huge plays. Kinda like the crazy Earthwind days.

Ashley : you seem to be heavily hoping for a CB tonight. I do not feel as strongly about it. I just don't feel that great about any of the remaining CBs. Deion Sanders, they are not.

I think Dennard was hurt fairly significantly all year long. I don't think he forgot how to cover. I'm not betting the mortgage on him, but I'm not ready to cut him, either.

Even without looking into every single year, "except for last season" is one hell of an exception. Furthermore, the signings this year have been of players who didn't get it done last year.

La’El Collins’ reps tell me if he’s not selected in rounds 2 or 3, he’ll not sign a contract with NFL team & resubmit his name for ’16 draft

@Rapsheet

Can he return to LSU if he does this?

That Rapsheet report, confirmed by Schefter would be a really interesting precedent for future years. Presumably any high level prospect that falls for character reasons could choose to do the same. Does the NFL have any leverage here? I'm not sure about the rules surrounding draft entry beyond the obvious ones.

He seemed to be able to cover the year before. Why he didn't see the field last season was a question that no one could answer but a lot of people asked.

@Rapsheet

One could make a strong argument that had he simply cooperated from the get go and been officially ruled out, he'd probably have gone in the top 2 rounds for sure, and possibly still have kept his 1st round status.

Either there's more to his involvement, or he got some really bad advice as to how to handle the situation.

He lost his eligibility the moment he declared. In general I don't see how sitting out a year of sports will help him to be picked in top 3 rounds in 2016.

Good point, but I think Ashley is simply reminding us that Dennard probably shouldn't be seen as a dependable option at this point in time, seeing as how last season played out.

If he's able to compete as the level of his first two years, that will be great. In the meantime, he could even potentially be on the chopping block for all we know. I think most of us would welcome a CB with open arms. Some of us would be happy to move up in the 2nd round to snag one, which probably isn't likely.

I admit I'm not that familiar with the remaining CB's, but if there is anyone that can improve our secondary, I would be all for drafting one as I think it's one of our two biggest question marks as of now.
What position or positions do you want to address tonight?

That's definitely a fair point and I'm hoping he shows improvement in training camp.

Amazing first day. can't believe we stole malcom brown while the colts took yet another WR. Now, as Belichick would say, we're onto round 2. today NE has 1 second rounder (pick #64) and 2 third rounders (#96, 97) Who do you guys like?

edit: as a side note, BB said he has never been in a situation with a cluster of picks like NE has at 96, 97 and 101. he said a possibility of a trade up exists but that we'll have to see.

here are some of the guys still available:

1. Randy Gregory, edge defender, Nebraska
2. La’el Collins, offensive lineman, LSU
3. Landon Collins, safety, Alabama
4. Eddie Goldman, defensive tackle, Florida State
5. Eli Harold, edge defender, Virginia
6. Dorial Green-Beckham, wide receiver, Oklahoma
7. Jaelen Strong, wide receiver, Arizona State
8. Jalen Collins, cornerback, LSU
9. T.J. Clemmings, offensive lineman, Pittsburgh
10. Eric Kendricks, linebacker, UCLA
11. Jake Fisher, offensive lineman, Oregon
12. Devin Smith, wide receiver, Ohio State
13. Preston Smith, edge defender, Mississippi State
14. Eric Rowe, cornerback, Utah
15. Owa Odighizuwa, edge defender, UCLA
16. Maxx Williams, tight end, Minnesota
17. Carl Davis, defensive lineman, Iowa
18. Denzel Perryman, linebacker, Miami
19. Ronald Darby, cornerback, Florida State
20. Mario Edwards Jr., defensive lineman, Florida State
21. Donovan Smith, offensive lineman, Penn State
22. A.J. Cann, offensive lineman, South Carolina
23. Tevin Coleman, running back, Indiana
24. Jordan Phillips, defensive tackle, Oklahoma
25. Benardrick McKinney, linebacker, Mississippi State
26. Quinten Rollins, cornerback, Miami (OH)
27. Danielle Hunter, edge defender, LSU
28. Grady Jarrett, defensive lineman, Clemson
29. Duke Johnson, running back, Miami
30. D’Joun Smith, cornerback, Florida Atlantic
31. Rashad Greene, wide receiver, Florida State
32. Kevin Lockett, wide receiver, Kansas State

Personally I am hoping for a few Offensive line picks. The Jets, Bills and Dolphins have all beefed up their defensive fronts and are looking to get to Brady as much as possible. I think that's their strategy to slowing down the Pats. The Pats are going to need depth on the Oline to counter that. Hopefully we can get Connolly back and a good depth pick out of the draft if not a starter. Brady and crew were on fire at the end of last season. They all seemed to be on the same page and they added Chandler as another potential weapon. It would be a shame to lose that because of a lack of offensive line depth.

The police didn't speak to Collins when this first started (Saturday). They spoke to his agent and family. Collins, who was reportedly in Chicago at the time, then got in touch with his attorney before contacting the police (no later than Tuesday). How is that a bad way to go?

This struck me as shades of McCourty.

Can better football heads than my own tell me why Dennard might not make a similar conversion to safety rather than be let go?
