Can someone answer a Chad Jackson question for me?

Bumping....I've heard nothing about CJ for about a month, figuring we won't hear much until summer...but, bumping nonetheless in case anyone has heard something...

You don't seem to really have a question so much as a disagreement with the way some here choose to view Jackson's potential availability. He may be ready by camp, or he may not. Most here assume that with a full off season and camp even if the knee is ready to go the player likely won't be. That is why some are already penciling him onto PUP figuring he would be a mid season addition/replacement.

He may be a bust or simply prove to be injury prone, but it's a little early to write him off entirely. Plus we don't have a pressing need for him to be ready for 2007 any longer, so as long as BB feels he will eventually contribute commensurate with the level in which he was drafted we wait. We have 3 years + left to figure that out and on a rookie contract we can afford to wait him out.

Even I, who labeled him a bust in like week three haven't completely given up hope for him, to be completely honest.

Did we get lucky on Branch? Can we really not find decent WR talent?

As far everyone saying hes not a bust, I think taking a guy in the second round who has done nothing and looks like he will do nothing till at least 2008, is a bust! He may turn out to be ok a few years down the line, but as a second round pick, bust big time for us.... peace

I wish the internet was a person so he could punch you in the face.

makes me wonder how my then 26 year old ass, which had a 7.5 hr surgery to replace my ACL with a chunk of my patellar tendon and a meniscal allograft from a dead guy, was able to run full speed on a soccer pitch in early May after a December 23 procedure...in 1993...

I'm thinking that a professional athlete 6 yrs younger, 10 yrs later with half the injury and twice the resources can probably do a little better than I did.

...yeah...bust...whatever...

I am not counting on him for much in 2007, hopefully he comes back healed and ready to go for 2008. The bad thing is that he is only signed through 2009. I am not optimistic that he becomes productive for the Pats, a lot of teams had crossed him off their boards based on poor interviews. I never like trading 2 picks for 1, at best the draft is 50/50.

The comments from Reiss' mailbag sealed it for me, the injury didn't help but his attitude and dedication have put him in a bigger hole.

Any update on the Chad Jackson timetable? I really hope he's OK as I think he could learn a lot from the other receivers on the depth chart and I really would hate to see him not blossom because we know what he's capable of.
Danny Ferraro, Gloucester

A: Jackson tore his ACL in the AFC Championship Game on Jan. 21, and those injuries require anywhere from a six- to 12-month recovery. I haven't learned anything new on his status. To me, the Jackson issue is two-fold. First, he has to recover from his knee injury. Second, he has to commit himself to being a good pro. I think there are some concerns about the second part of the equation among some of the Patriots' coaching and scouting staff.

He has been rehabbing all offseason and he should be able to play at least half the season I think.

I didn't see it in the posts here so I'll post it. It's from Riess's Mailbag of 4/17.

* Doesn't say anything about route running, but make of that as you want. If what he did was going to mean what he'll do in the NFL David Terrell would be an All Pro. And, IMO, no one's seen enough of his NFL career to have much of an opinion of just how he'll turn out eventually. There's certainly a chance he'll turn out well and a chance he'll be like M Hill.

Source please?

Just because somebody posted it on the internet or some beat writer opined it, doesn't make it true. I have heard ZERO authoritative information from the New England Patritots. I'm sure that, if they commented, they'd say he is "day to day".

Seriously...all we know is that he had ACL surgery. Anything beyond that is pure speculation on somebody's part.

Is this another 7 page thread about Chad The Gimp??

OY VEY

Maybe we can trade CJ for Bethel Johnson and call it even.

Uh, oh. Those mean-spirited Patriots coaches & scouts will be lambasted by the worshiping Chad Jackson groupies here for expressing their precipitous concerns.

Well it will suck if - emphasis on IF - that ends up being a blown pick but with what we've acquired in FA, Jackson is just a nice, intriguing talent now and superfluous to our plans for 2007. The WR position is no longer in need although I'd love to see Jackson progress.

Here's a nice link for the rehab process.

An excerpt:

8 Weeks

Start partial squats; wall squats with resistance band
Progress to resistance-machine quadriceps knee extension/flexion
Increase bicycle, treadmill, and stair-climbing programs

2.5 Months
Leg presses
Start partial squats on machine
Jog on trampoline
Lunges with dumbbells
Sidestepping with dumbbells
Order functional knee brace

3 Months
Biodex training
Light agility work
Jogging on a treadmill

3.5 months
More aggressive agility work: kariokas, figure 8s, jumping, and plyometrics
Continue jogging

You obviously have a bone up your arse regarding Jackson. He steal your girlfriend or something because you keep making up this crap.

1) It was partially torn. The rehab isn't nearly as long.
2) No, he won't have missed the ENTIRE off-season program and mini-camps. That is your BS assumption.
3) Actually, it doesn't take players that long to regain their confidence regarind their knee.

Unless you've actually HAD an ACL injury, you don't know what you are talking about.

OH, and one last thing, how about you go learn more about Jackson and how he's done in the 2nd year of systems.

DaBruinz - please tone it down a bit. The posts I have read from you are are quite antagonistic. No reason for it unless he hit you over the head with a wet herring.
I have had ACL reconstructive surgery (though I am not nor have ever been a football player). I was on the Washington State U Ski team though (WSU fellow alum - QB's: Drew Bledsoe, (the) Ryan Leif and yes even Mark Rypien SB MVP! - (he makes a great trivia question).

Regarding your post and comment #3:
"3) Actually, it doesn't take players that long to regain their confidence regarind their knee. "

Have you talked to any football players about this? Have you ever talked with ANYONE who has had ACL reconstructive surgery (and who plays any sports)?

After my ACL surgery, I was in a brace for several months and having to either A) grab the crutches or B) having to awkwardly hop - to do the most simplest thing like go to the refrigerator or to the toilet ; it makes you VERY cautious to do anything. During (my) rehab when I felt pain - I would then start taking it easy so as not to possibly damage it. When I would be running and feel a strange sensation - I would stop running and walk instead. I wore a brace my first year back skiing and I took it quite easy. I never skiied competitively again. Even by the second season it would still cross my mind while recreational skiing after I weaned myself off the brace. And the brace really limits your movements. I have not (nor will ever) have 100% range of motion in my knee again. And my ACL damage was not particularly severe - not by a long shot.

So I take some offense when you say that remark about confidence because in the back of your mind you really don't want to re-injure the knee and to be reaching for your crutches or hoping on one leg to get to the toilet - yet again.
Let along go through the long and painful rehab process. And least not possible sacrifice millions of $$ (getting cut and settling for an injury settlement) for an NFL player.

So please stop accusing others quote - "because you keep making up this crap" and look in the mirror yourself.
