Tampering charges filed for Woody Johnson and the Jets

I'm guessing nothing comes of this. Maybe a finding of impropriety and a "don't do this again".

I think it is ridiculous - as I think the jets should be punished - but I just don't see the punishment being anything significant.

If I had to bet there will be no draft picks involved. I bet Johnson gets a 50K fine, roughly.

Precedent says draft picks will be involved if the league rules he did.

Which they better well. This was the 2nd time in a calendar year Johnson has violated tampering rules. He is just lucky the Eagles wanted Jackson gone.

Possible explanation for the picture posted in the "Goodell nervous" thread

He was warned about doing something similar with DeSean Jackson less than a year before!

Now we know why Goody pissed himself last night.

Heh....... Having to stand with Kraft after attending the Divisional game while wearing a Ravens ballcap, well he OUGHT to be nervous.

Wasn't the hat of his High School, not the Ravens?

He was already warned earlier this season. Goodell has well established that the hammer comes out after the written formal warning and the behaviour in question continues.

I hope you're right but with the Jet's ball boy playing the role of the commish we'll see. I expect the lowest penalty he can give.

I thought it was a Baltimore cap, but I admit I could be mistaken. If I am, my apologies.

Nice to start the day with some good news. I'm thrilled Kraft finally stood up and said, "no more". JMHO, but I don't think the crime is worth the Jets losing a draft pick, but I do think it was stupid enough and after an earlier warning just this year, to warrant swapping picks in either the 2nd or thrid round.

Due to it simply being a statement made kind of reminiscing I can't see the penalty being harsh, I'll be pleased with ANY reward for us and ANY penalty to the Jets, really not expecting much unless they find out they were also talking TO Revis and not just mentioning him.

Then it's a whole different story.

Still love seeing the Jets organization look stupid, and to our benefit, no less.

So you would be satisfied if Revis went to the Jets and we receive a 7th round pick?

Let's start with a $500k fine, $10m debit vs the Jets cap so they can't sign Revis and the Patriots receiving the Jets #1 draft pick while still keeping ours.

That wont happen but tampering is tampering and the Jets are a division rival.

No mercy for the stupid.

How are the two related? If Revis returns to the Jets it won't be because of Woody's midseason comment.

If we lose Revis that is entirely on the New England Patriots.

And no, there shouldn't be any mercy, but your fines are pretty ridiculous, not that I wouldn't love to see them enforced.

We can only hope, but after seeing Goodell screw up time and again this season, I'm not holding my breath.

I would be happy with either a 1st, 2nd, or 3rd round pick. I would also be satisfied if they let the Jets choose either a low round pick loss or they officially change their name to the New York Circus.

I'd hope Kraft goes on the war path if the omissioner comes across with another hand slap for these fools.

I don't think the timing is coincidental at all. I think the league (Read Goodell) probably wanted to make it go away and wasn't going to take action so the Pats filed a formal complaint and let Schefter know on the second biggest TV day of the NFL year....so it will get plenty of airtime....
As for punishment, the precedent is a fine and swapping of draft picks. If the league lets the Jets off with a fine only,(remember he is a repeat offender and was warned before) the next time an owner says anything, he can go back and cite this as a financial punishment only (drop in the bucket to most of these guys)when the damage is already done.

RE: Timing of this...

Kraft just spent part of the evening chatting up God-ell. Have to assume he planted some sort of bug with the commish.
