Are the Pats gonna do it?

The principle apparently being beaten into the Patriots right now (as evidenced by Blount's 'shocking' statement) is execution - only the Pats can beat the Pats. If the O-line that goes into the playoffs (the healthiest version possible in 12 days) does its job, then the Pats can beat anybody in the field. If they fail, then they can be one and done like any other team. The defense is good enough to keep the games in reach in case the offense sputters a bit, but it won't score 21 points itself. Nor will special teams.

The Seahawks are not unbeatable. The team that monkey-stomped the Donkeys last year did not roll through the prior two playoff games, and was a catch away from watching the Niners play the Donkeys. I would not be surprised to see another team knock them out before that is an issue. The Pats, without Chandler Jones, were driving for the winning score in Green Bay and stalled. Anyone suffering through delusions that a now limited Rodgers (reports are his calf will not heal and may get worse with continued play time) on a neutral field rather than home field represents an unbeatable foe must not have watched that prior game.

I look forward to the ride, and hope the Pats play to the level they are capable. If so, then the sky's the limit.

Is C.Jones really 100% healthy? Some might say that its a shame Ayers playing time being cut down since his return a negative. Lets be honest .. C.Jones makes me wonder at times if he is even on the field. However, when that boy is on his game .. he is lethal ..

That's odd. Because I recall Brady had them in the lead both times and it was the defense that couldn't finish the job.

How many points did the Pats score in those losses? If the offense put up more points, which they would have with a better O-line, those late defensive struggles wouldnt have mattered.

Offense put them in the lead in both games where the defense only had to make 1 stop. Is it really that much to ask the defense to make 1 stop?

But given that you are a chicken little or troll of course

Ok all the people squawking and shouting about Seattle this and Seattle that, yes they won last 6 games of season and yes they only gave up 39pts in those 6 games, but here are the qbs they beat
Drew Stanton
Ryan Lindley
Mark Sanchez
Shaun Hill
Colin Kaepernick.
IMO most people on this board would agree that Tom "freakin" Brady is better than all of those guys.
My wife asked me back in Sept my thoughts on season, my response was "if we stay healthy, MAGICAL"
I like our chances

I try to not get my hopes up until the AFC Champ game...even after in the 07 and 11 SB...my hopes were very high and it was a hard fall...very hard fall.

I want to win that SB again and in order to do that i will have to endure the fear that it could crash my hopes again..... But i always keep the faith until they are down and out come playoffs

And if they are down and out BEFORE the SB this year...would be wise not to talk to me for a week or so ;)

The eye-test kind of tells me the o-line sucks this year (especially at some key moments) but these stats are telling me otherwise:

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/ol

We're #2 in pass protection and #5 in run blocking. I don't think pressures/ hurries are taken into account though. I think I need to be subscribed to PFF to see that. I'd be interested in knowing where we rank with those. Anyone on here subscribed to PFF who can tell me?

Update....

Our o-line:

181 pressures (9th most)
52 hits (2nd most)
110 hurries (20th most)

They seemed to have give back to the defensive line scheme that drive us all crazy against buffalo. Noticed Jones dropping in to coverage a few times. Was too preoccupied to pay close enough attention to where he was lining up to rush from.
Before that he certainly showed flashes of his supposed ability. He also seemed to disappear a bit. Even if he was 90%, these next total y weeks should be sufficient time for him to get to one hundred percent healthy. I'm not worrying about him.

My worry is health if the offensive line. To me, that is the biggest question moving forward.

They can only let so many winning seasons go to waste, its now or never.

One fear I have before this playoff run, but it is a very tiny one ... Is Belichick gonna out Belichick himself .. Are the Pats gonna get cute? Ohhhhh, and don't get my started with the 3rd and 1-2 bombs away crap .. Like I said .. teeny one ..

The local sports yahoos have said the BB, JMD and Patrica go out of their way to prove how smart they are by doing complex, fancy things on the football field.

I can hear it now. BB tells his staff to do stuff that makes his team have the perception of being smarter than the other team...gawd.

It's not now or never...2-3 more years of a good shot. If this D stays the same and Brady/gronk doesn't get injured..will be right there next year

it's amazing to think i could have seen 5 SB wins by the pats in my life and god knows how many more if they say beat the ravens in AFC champ game ect...all i want is 1 more before Brady and co are gone...

FWIW, I agree with your point but Snake Eyes is neither a troll nor a chicken little. I actually had this exact same discussion with him pre-draft. He's a good poster.

Yes. New England finally has the defense to win low scoring, slug it out games. They will capture that elusive 4th Lombardi this year.

That adage: offense wins games - defense wins championships.

It's why the Pats won in 2001, 2003-2004, but not quite since.

It's also why I think they will win it this year.

i guess im more selfish....im wishing for a run of 3 straight SB championships to close out Bradys and BBs football careers...

and one up what was done between 2001-2004

and one of those 3 latter seasons to be a perfect 19-0

(im not asking too much am i?)

Not to be a downer, but let's just see if they can win this year, then go from there. Either way they should be in good shape for years to come, but being super bowl champs are priority, not being "good."

That's odd. Because I recall Brady had them in the lead both times and it was the defense that couldn't finish the job.

That's odd, because I recall Brady being consistently pressured throughout the entire game, where the #1 passing offence was essentially stifled for the majority of the game due to poor O-line play.

The same held true for 2011.

But you know what, because I like you JMC, I'll play along. I'll agree with you because it's the popular thing to do around here, even when you're shamelessly off base.

****aldoodle Doo, ****aldoodle Doo, I love you.....

I think you should be more worried about JOSH MACDONALD trying to feature Vereen in some dumb ass aerial attack against the like of the Colts.

If anything is going to **** us, it is the oc and that guys incredulous need to win by throwing fifty times, with four shotgun draws to a poor running scat back, with a dozen semi-productive carries to the true runners randomly sprinkled into drives, prohibiting either from establishing any kind if rhythm. Of course somewhere in the first two possessions he calls two/three runs with the runners, and abandons that thereafter, successful or not.

I'd prefer a 9-7 limp in resulting in another ring. 19-0 is just to stressful to even watch lol.

This is not without its validity. Nothing is more annoying lately then watching them pass, pass, telegraphed run, FG, while on the 2 freaking yard line.

Run. The. Football.
