@AdamSchefter: Adrian Peterson was notified today that he has been suspended without pay for at least the remainder of the 2014 NFL season.

@caplannfl: Peterson will not be considered for reinstatement before April 15.

Woah

Well, I don't know what to say, curious to see how the Vikings will approach this issue though, since they will get a high position in a draft loaded with running backs.

According to Ian Rapoport the plan had been to bring Peterson back in December, but he didn't didn't show up to a meeting on Friday, and didn't provide some of the requested materials.

My first reaction is that it seems much. It also takes the onus off of the Vikings to deal with the issue, which I guess is the point. For them it gets pushed into next year when more than likely people will have moved onto something else.

I don't even think the Vikings need him, the combo of Asiata and McKinnon has been doing just fine and costs them very little. They have other areas to spend high draft picks on.

My guess is that this is classic administrative "pass the buck"... Goodell knows he really cannot do this, so it will go to expedited arbitration.. the NFL will lose and Goodell can then blame it on the arbitrator.

Interesting method...

If true, that is crazy. Maybe they should try beating his genitals with a switch.

A FOUR YEAR OLD CHILD.

he got off light.

**** Adrian Peterson until the end of time.

These pictures are 10 DAYS AFTER the alleged incident...how much pain must have this child suffered??!!

Holy crap if true!! That's in the league of consenting-adult S&M porn videos.

Even if the 10 days figure is erroneous, and those photos show the worst the marks ever looked, it's way beyond what anybody should experience, outside the bounds of consenting-adult &M.

If I understood things correctly, it's subject to appeal by an arbitrator.

In any case, count me among those who don't think he's getting punished too harshly.

I think it's even worse for the NFL and their sham disciplinary policies if Peterson was given more time because he didn't appear at the meeting on Friday.

I'm not commenting on Peterson's child abuse, by the way. I just think it's wholly foolish if the NFL can essentially layer on "contempt of NFL kangaroo court proceeding" punishments, especially given how ad hoc their procedures and punishment guidelines appear to be. My argument is for a weaker Goodell role in player discipline, not for leniency on Peterson, particularly.

Torn about this. Part of me never wants him to ever play again. The other part of me thinks this is typical reactionary move by the NFL who looks the other way on domestic abuse for years and after the public finally calls them out on it, they go overboard in the other direction.

If Peterson did this last year, he probably would have gotten an 1-2 game suspension at most. Post Ray Rice, he has gotten a year suspension with 9 games with pay.

Again, I think Peterson should never play again, but it took Ray Rice to get the league to make any hardline stance on domestic violence.

I'm really not understanding some of the outrage going on in other places over this decision. I mean do people realize he was still getting game checks? He didn't get to play but this essentially is just a 6 game suspension (cause they sure as hell are not making the playoffs). I think that is beyond fair. An Alternate would be to allow him time served and just dock him 6 game checks. If he wins appeal they'll probably do something similar to the latter.

Slightly OT-There was some conversation on here about AD's availability and if we'd bite. I think its fairly obvious, after Gray's amazing performance last game, that its more about the offensive line and game planning than about signing a big money back.

Oh I would love to know which places these are that are outraged. "I GOT THE **** BEAT OUT OF ME AND I TURNED OUT FINE" posts, no doubt.

Correction, it took a leak to get the league...

I don't care if that's how AD was raised, I can't stand it! He's a POS and should never play again.
