Alfonzo Dennard begins jail sentence in Nebraska March 1

We need to get word to his girlfriend, who lives on the main stretch through Lincoln, Nebraska, where there are many college bars/student nightlife.

That is precisely why he keeps returning to the state, he has a love interest there.

For what it's worth, someone tweeted Ben Volin from Nebraska saying that he was spotted at the Lincoln mall, and although he appeared to be in high spirits, he also looked quite thin.

I highly doubt that he's suddenly going to quit hanging around in Lincoln, although he obviously should be quite cautious. If I were him, I'd be home by about 10pm and off the streets. No reason he can't have a few beers every now and then in the privacy of his own home.

I heard that he was completely rehabilitated (unlike that atrocious scumbag Ron Mexico) ... :singing:

I dunno, I don't think it's unreasonable for him to either a) stay the hell out of Nebraska, or at a minimum b) stay 100% sober at all times while he's there. There's too much at stake, and if he wants to go and have a good time he can do it in any of the 200 cities in the USA that have more going for them than Lincoln ******* Nebraska.

Dennard's jail sentence is set to begin March 1. He had requested a continuance of the sentencing until after the season but was denied. He also had 100 hours of community service and a no-alcohol provision added by Lancaster County District Court Judge Stephanie Stacy.

I'm assuming that we all know about the no-alcohol provision, Deus. I'm also assuming that no one seriously thinks that he doesn't have a beer or two in the privacy of his own home at times. Hopefully, with a much more limited frequency over the next 2 yrs.

As I'm sure you are already well aware, The no-alcohol clause is more of a deterrence factor, and it also establishes another technical violation for the judge, should he end up getting into the same kind of scenario that he has now the past 2 times. It was really a no-brainer that he'd have something like that in his probation, since the other 2 cases in front of that woman judge were involving alcohol and the public in some capacity.

3-4 beers drank in the late evening would be gone in 3-4 hours, so unless he were to go out in public, no one would know.

Most get caught by continuing to partake in the nightlife and/or hanging around parties and whooping it up. Let's hope that he learned something out of this whole mess, even if it's baby steps. The reality is that he likely sees a probation officer a couple times a month or so. Unless he's a raging alcoholic, he probably has a much higher chance of getting caught smoking weed.

I'm looking at it in a worst case scenario. If he's going to be continuing to hang out there, and by the looks of things, he's going to--then the least he can do is choose to come home early and not be seen drinking in public.

He has a pretty serious girlfriend there from all accounts. I don't know her personal business, or why she can't just move closer, but that is reportedly the reason that he frequents Lincoln so often.

One would have to be pretty dumb to somehow get caught with a no-alcohol clause, mainly because it moves through the system so quickly.

Basically, the only reasonable way that he'd get caught is if:

--he chose to drink in public, risking having someone see him

--he was at a party or gathering with the wrong people, most likely late at night

--he had a serious alcohol problem and was drinking early in the morning or mid-day, etc

--he somehow drank until the wee hours of like 4-5 AM, then had a surprise visit the next morning, most likely prior to NOON

Otherwise, he can certainly get away with staying low-key in the privacy of his own home or with his girlfriend to casually drink. The SWAT team isn't going to swoop in after the working hours of probation to test him. Most likely he meets up with his probation officer a couple of times per month and gives a test.

Celebrate good times...just not in Lincoln. Tonight. At the bars. ;)

We want him to do his beer bonging in the privacy of his own home, or possibly at his girlfriend's, since we can't have him leave Lincoln altogether.

I would imagine that he would have a pretty difficult time getting away with going to any club or bar these days--at least his attorney should be telling him such at any rate.

The ironic thing is, that Lincoln is a pretty big party town.

You haven't lived until you find yourself in a situation where you really, really want to punch a cop. But this guy was just stupid enough to do it, although I have no idea why he did it...and in the week heading into the draft too. Still remains unfathomable to me, and it probably cost Dennard millions. This is nothing new. The DUI I could overlook. I got one of those at his age too.

All things considered, I think that Dennard was a healthy risk to take, especially in the 7th round. I would have no regrets about that if I were a Patriots fan. If he violates his probation again, he's a cooked turkey though. The judge will hammer him down.
